Very good point.  Light's continued evolvement is definitly part of what hooked me to the show and will continue to keep my interest.

--- Quote from: twik on November 20, 2006, 06:42:01 am --- A more interesting question might ask if he IS a god.  Light differs from everyone else with a god complex in that he actually has godlike powers.  Certainly the ability to take life does not necessarily translate into the right to do so, but then again, being a god does not necessitate being good either.
--- End quote ---

Wow, now there's a perspective I hadn't considered.  He certainly has god-like capabilities, but I don't think that makes him a god, for two reasons:
1. The powers are not in fact his own. By definition, they belong to the notebook, and without it he is powerless.
2. Most definitions of a "god" include one key point: they are immortal or near-immortal.  Light is neither.

Hehe, I came to the same conclusion, but it was a fun scenario to consider.

Draconis:
In light( no pun intended) of recent episodes, the immortal subject is most important. As he said when he is able "to be god over the world he is created" he wants it to last as long as possible, hence not taking the shingami eyes.
Light very well knows he is not a God and to me isn't trying to become one.
Rather his attempts at his world because he didn't feel adequate living in what the world had become...but he obviously likes to be controlling. Like making the entire world afraid to commit a crime because of fear of death...
in a lighter way(still no pun) I wish our world was more like that...
people don't fear the "justice" we have left and the consequences aren't that bleak...

Maybe humans should be required to take a test to see if they deserver their freewill, yes it is hypocritical to force someone to be able to choose or not
but too many people do it cause " I just can" I just do or I can get away with it

lindewell:
For me there is no doubt the author wanted to show Light as a psychopath from the very beginning. There were no progress through an evil behavior. In the 1st episode L tells him what he's doing is not justice and it's bad.
Light behind his apparence of a nice and smart guy (listen how he speaks to Ray's widow), he's very egocentric and has no concerns for the feelings of others. He tries to put himself in risky situations (just think how dangerous was the first encounter with Ray , and the second encounter even more risky). He does that only to make himself look superior and that's the exact symptoms of a psychopath.

Back to episode 7, what is this belt and majordomme? Is L some kind of BATMAN  :D

Tsubasa:
At least now we know L can think of conducting an investigation in a more orthodox way.  :D
