It's Light TRUST ME.

Lean katakana and you'll understand why the Japanese spell Light as Raito.

Japanese have to write Light as Raito cause they don't have such characters in katakana to write it in a different way. "Raito" in romaji without 'o' at the end sounds similar to "Light" in english. They can't write 't' so they write 'to' (ト) instead. Am I right?

By the way, which kanji character(s) do they use to write it?

They spell it Light in the manga....the English in the Japanese at least. That's all you need to know.

its just as povder says "They can't write 't' so they write 'to' (と or ト) instead" and they cant write 'l', there is not 'L' sound in japanese, not at all... so they write 'r' instead... in other words 'ra' (ら or ラ), is it enough now? ;)
