Whoa, wait right there!
Are you suggesting the people here at L-E should have done something that could get them shut down just because Toei are a bunch of arseholes?

The Live-eviL stuff explained exactly WHY they canned GE999 and Harlock - because they got licensed. Period.

None of us are happy with how this turned out, but don't blame L-E!
Well why didn't heart of madness get shut down? They didn't stop subbing Hokuto No Ken aka Fist Of The North Star after Toei licensed it in the US and they are still going and have completed all 152 episodes. They are an example of what a fansub group should be like, they stuck with their project until the very end.

Just because you don't get caught it doesn't mean you CAN'T... Besides, it's L-Es policy to drop projects once they get licensed and I respect that.

But it's hypocritical: they drop it after it's licensed in the US but not europe, yet they happily subbed it whilst it was licensed in Japan. The USA is not the whole world, only an increasingly marginalised part thereof.

* suzaku_nomiko puts her paw down.

all the GE999 raws and scripts have been deleted from my RAID system and my working drives and archived on storage drives and put on the shelf with other dropped projects to make room for other new active projects.

'Licensed in the US' is a group policy, that stems from the fact that most members of the group, including the most illustrious mascot and leader, are in the US.  If a group from one of those non-licensed reasons wants to do it, that is their perogative.  He cannot offer direct assistance to such, but for what it's worth, they can have his blessing and moral support.

For those who feel the situation is hopeless, there are options.  The mascot acknowledged in Pigcast #103 "One battle is lost, but the war goes on.  Assuredly we have not seen the last of Yue-bing, but the sooner she is brought to justice, the sooner we can rest knowing that our remaining projects are safe from her menace.  No longer must Yue-bing be allowed to claw away at the hard-earned fruits of our labor.  Vigilance!  Do not despair, for the prophecy of the great unlicensing is draws closer with every day.  Already, the once-unthinkable has happened, one or the once-mighty banners has fallen down, and soon, all others shall follow."  To hear more words of encouragement from the mascot, be sure to tune in to Pigcast #104.  In the meantime, you can help by checking under every nook and cranny for the elusive and traitorous Yue-bing.

Be advised that Yue-bing is dangerous, if you do catch sight of her, DO NOT confront her directly.  Give him a call on Skype, then sit back, relax, watch from a distance if you please.

Watch illegally via a proxy? No good as you can only watch the timed free-to-view episodes which take an age to become available. I want to be able to pay to watch when I want.

And would you be able to watch when you want if DVDs were available, which so many of you claim you would buy?  No, you'd still have to wait (probably longer) for each disc to come out.

Not everybody has the means to go to america to watch, and if you were seriously suggesting that as a legitimate solution, then I think a reality check is needed.

I wasn't suggesting anything other than people quit complaining to us.

But speaking of reality checks, why would Toei spend who knows how much money to have these episodes translated just "to kill the fansub" when a simple cease and desist would do the trick?

We all know a c&d without a viable alternative to the fansub would in 9 out of 10 cases go unheeded. Indeed, Rumbel have continued to sub Gintama after it being licensed for streaming via crunchyroll and phantom subs plan to continue subbing Hitman Reborn after getting a c&d to stop. In fact, since they recieved their c&d, about 3 other subbers have continued the show in defiance of the c&d's.

Anyone looking at L-E's dropping record would realize that a C&D would work with this group.

As for Rumbel they immediately dropped Soul Eater when being C&D:ed, and it works with many other groups as well. Some continue, of course. The world is full of people with different views.

Let's look at the stuff we keep working with instead of the past, lots of goodies out there!  :)

With respect, if kaleyboy or anyone else wants to watch Galaxy Express 999, they have every right to watch the series of their choice and not watch an alternative instead.

Also on that note, to kaleyboy and everyone else thinking about pestering Live-Evil to try and make them change their mind - give up. I certainly know I'm giving up. I won't of course, let their edict in the face of Crunchyroll's "licensing" of the series stop me from trying to obtain Galaxy Express 999 episodes with English subs. But neither Live-Evil, Crunchyroll or indeed Toei themselves are either willing or able to do anything about letting people access the series in those few countries outside of the U.S. and Canada.

The only alternative that should be heartily recommended would be to obtain some way of masking one's IP address and circumventing either Crunchyroll's or Direct2Drive's website that way, signing up again through such a method, and simply grab the episodes yourself. It's clear that Toei simply doesn't care, and neither does anyone else. I know it's not fair that we have to jump through so many hoops to actually watch Galaxy Express, but there really is no other way, nor will there be in the future unless Crunchyroll pushes Toei to give them a worldwide license for the series, which is extremely unlikely since they've got so many of the big Japanese companies eating out of their hands due to their new region-locks, etc.

Therefore, I'd suggest that discussion here goes from simply complaining about the lack of Galaxy Express torrents to simply listing which borderline-illegal ways us Europeans can get remote access to Crunchyroll's or Direct2Drive's websites. I myself am looking at using Hide My IP, which is a pay program. However, let's face it, in the face of Toei's obstinacy, no price is too small to pay to get Galaxy Express! :)

If anyone has any other working methods, please let us know!

I guess I have to agree with you and hope that Toei sees the light and shows europe some love. Hope Harlock SSX continues here. . .

Right now, it is only licensed for streaming online at Crunchyroll. There are no DVDs announced at this time. I guess DVDs might be made if the online streaming were successful. However, I think this is highly unlikely. -YaoiBoy

First, I want to say thank you for subtitling this while it was still unlicensed.. I started watching your translations of this and Harlock about 6 months before it was licensed. I would have been on the forums a lot more but for some reason wasn't getting the registration email, no matter how many times I tried... but yeah, thank you. I guess I was lucky in finding out about Galaxy Express when I did, as I am one of the unlucky European people so if I 'discovered' it now, it would be a lot harder to watch.. But fair enough, stick to your policy and I'm sure there are enough other shows out there that are worth using your considerable skills on without the threat of legal action..

So I decided to try watching the rest of it without subtitles. I don't know any Japanese apart from what I've picked up through a few years of watching anime, so I understand the most commonly used words/phrases but no specifics, but it isn't that hard to follow what's going on, especially for a show like this where so much of the awesomeness is atmosphere and imagination and music..
But I am hoping for some kind of english torrent to appear before I get to the end, because I'm sure theres a catch as to why she gave him the pass to start with, from this guy's idea of continuity it's not necessarily the same as in the film, and Im sure it will make bugger-all sense to a Gaijin like me without some kind of subtitlage.. or official DVDs, which I would buy like a shot. (Im even considering buying the manga in French, for fecks sake... and I am an English person who last attempted to read french in an exam aged 16 ::)).

But yeah, the point being.. My ongoing fascination with the universe that this is set in (along with at least 10 random drunk people who watched this late at night and didn't know what to make of it) is mainly your fault, so I thank you.  ;D X

I just checked it out. They have complete fist Of The North Star at present and are promising to release a complete series each week. Best news of all, I was able to watch without a region-lock and the videos can be downloaded as good quality .FLV's with eng subs. Can't wait for GE999.
