That theory doesn't work. As Silvereye pointed out, Matsumoto could care less about continuity from one show to the next and in the Galaxy Express movie, Tochiro was still alive and living alone on Heavy Melder and died in a completely diffrent way then he did in the Harlock tv series.

That is correct, but I think this is the only logical explanation that i can find (but sometimes logical isn’t Matsumoto’s name :))
