definately Light
when it comes down to it, L has nearly all of the advantages: seemingly limitless resources, the help of (some of) the police, etc. While Light mostly has himself, his wits, and a less-than-helpful Shinigami who's addicted to apples. Working on his own (unless you count Misa later) and he still comes out about even with L in most of their contests.
