So sad... this thread has been up for like a day or 2 now, and still only LE staff members have been talking in it. :'( Where are all of the Death Note fans?!?! :'(Right here? Aside from my fix of Mastumoto, this (and Chevalier D'eon) are the only series I'm torrenting episode by episode. I just wait for everything else to get licenced.
Check out the other threads in this board. There is a thread regarding the movie and possibility of subbing it.

All I want is for someone to say that they like the timing and I will be a happy camper. ;)
Great job Live-eviL !! Really love you all.. with Detective Academy Q, Initial D and now Death Note... I'm one of ur fans... One of the most prestigous fansubbers...
But just wanna tell u the so-called hero in Death Note is Yagami RAITO... and as far as I can see it's been translated to "Light"... just want to tell the team, thanks again... really owe u people a lot...
And please do continue to sub all those great animes...
This thread will experience some Light vs Raito battle it seems. ;)
If someone can give me a kanji for RAITO and not a katakana, then I'll agree to RAITO but if they right his name as RAITO in katakana, the mangaka meant it to be Light and the English manga t/l screwed up. ^_^
-Tsubasa
In the manga the kanji for Raito is the same as the kanji used for moon, but it's read as Raito.Well, considering that in Vol. 2 and subsequent volumes, it lists his name as "LIGHT". And I'm not talking the english volumes, I'm talking Tankoban. Light's name is Light, Ryuk is Ryuk, etc. Many of the main names were spelt out in english in the tanko.

beloculus recently showed me the first two episodes of Death Note and I was pleased. :D However, I struggled to read the subtitles at some points because of the white serif font used, even in the second episode when the subtitles were completely opaque. I would prefer a sans serif, "traditional" font for subbing it (yellow font with black borders really is readable) even though it's less pretty.
I have to agree, the text is hard to read over lighter backgrounds. I think a thicker black border is needed around the text, or a different color maybe? 8)
Yay!!! DN 3 is out! Good job guys, despite our issues this week we still got it our pretty darn fast considering. A round of applause for the dedication of Beloculus and tlynnec who do most of the work. Great job guys! And next week TW is going down! :P ;) ;D
Bobby, bobby, let's be like matured competitors and not bring such stuff over at the public forums. ;)
-Tsubasa
I'm not being mean or immature at all Tsubasa, you have been informed that TW and LE are having a friendly competition in this matter, and if you have watched either our release of episode 2, or TW's release of episode 3, you will realize that these messages are all in good fun, and we say stuff like this back and forth to each other all the time. So please don't fret you pretty little head about it. ;) ::) ;D
Hi I'm a newbie. And I love your fansub because you have good translations. However regarding to Death Note, the main character, I wanna double confirm, is his name Yagami Light or Yamagi Raito? Because as I read in the manga, it's Yagami Raito. Please enlighten me if I'm wrong. I've tried few fansub, it's all Yagami Light.
/me sighs.
Naru read the previous posts. Especially pages 2-4. You'd get your answer.

I didn't ask that? ??? Think someone need to get some much needed sleep...lol.(j/k)
No sleep for tsubie!

Geez. You wanted to clear your Raito/Light confusion and the previous pages talk all about it. ::) Who needs the sleep now? >_>

I don't drink coffee. Gimme a strawberry shortcake. :-*
Well I just got up but I guess I'll go back to bed. Poor Naru is always misunderstood/victimized in this forum. :P

So this L-E vs TW is an inside thing and if it were to be a TW and L-E joint forum, this gurls pwn boys would have been interesting but here it's like 'wth?' You also gotta realise that most leechies won't know what we mean by girls pwn boys. They'd think LLE pwns the entire male population cause they don't realise it's a battle between sexes. Someone in the asuki Death Note TV thread was saying 'btw, that girls pwn boys at the beginning always makes me snicker'. Then I realised how they had no idea what's going on inside so I offered some explanation. For most people, it's a 'four groups doing it, so so group is the best.' They won't relate one with the other except compare subs.Yup, as a leecher who had no knowledge of the L-E/ TW competition, I can verify that this is all true.
Can I just ask (for pure need of knowing when to expect the subs out, as i've yet to notice when the links pop up), when does Death note air?
And I hafta say, I am in awe of the sheer brilliance of L. At the end of episode two, I was sat, staring at the screen for quite some time, thinking "holy hell, this is pure genious in action", though Light is, most certainly, catching up to him.
I cannot WAIT to see L in person (if that ever happens), especially as he's voiced by Yamaguchi Kappei (and I get a little fangirl squeal as I even type that name). I see makings of a shounen-ai coupling, but I'll leave that to me to think about...
if you feel that trying to kill each other is yaoi then yes
Well, if anyone besides him knows that he was the one sent to tail Light, since he got killed despite of not being a bad guy, it is certainly likely to raise suspicions.
When he is eventually found out, it'll be interesting to see what they'll do to him, as it'll be a bit...*shrug* odd to just...kill him for mass murder, that's that. Who knooows.
(new/n00b in the forum :P)
Death note is a great anime, i'm really enjoying it. You are doing a great job with the subs _o_
If i had a Death Note, i'ld be God :P Maybe i would do the same as Light, killing the criminals is a good thing, at least the worse criminals, and those who are 'imune' to human justice.
re the discussion about having a Death Note for yourself:
There is an old proverb: "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." I'd say that says it all, wouldn't you? ;)
i dunno why noone noticed this yet but for 5 ep. allready (dunno 4 sure bout the fifth cuz i didn't c it yet) u have called Ryuku Ryuk & the worst u've been calling Raito Light ... where does that come from? because raito is the word made by borrowing light from english? ... if it was so then it should have been written in katakana but as u can c in the third ep. (i think that was it) when u get 2 c Raito through Ruku's eyez u c his name written in KANJI & that is only posible with japanese names only ... now i'm not here 2 criticise bcuz i read the manga & it's just 2 great but just seeing Ryuk & Light in every ep. is gettin kind of annoyin' ... i wouldn't want 2 get 2 the last episodes 2 c u still call Raito Light :-\ ... aanyhow @ least consider this post .. uz i'm still gonna watch the series but Light just sounds so eeew >_< ... aanyhow the rest is up 2 u ;) ... ja na
Before you rant about the names being incorrect please do some research. Light is his actual name, and yes it would be pronounced raito and written in katakana. However, the kanji that you see in the series is a kanji that has one meaning of light. The subbers are correct in using Light as his name. The same goes for Ryuk. Ryuk is what his name was intended to be, but because of the nature of the Japanese language it is pronounced and written in Japanese as ryuku.
Good information can be found on wikipedia here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Note
Edit:
Also, you might want to go to www.jisho.org (http://www.jisho.org) and search for akari. The one you are looking for is probably the third one down. Meaning lamplight, light (in general), and brightness. So Light's name might also be a play on how he is the brightest student in Japan. Which is quite a crafty thing that the creators of the manga have done.

There are some things that I was wondering about, when I saw episode no. 5:Well, technically I'm not one of the LLE, but I figured I'd try and give you an answer anyway. As for point 1, I believe that has more to do with the raw not having one (the episode just may not have had one or the raw they used may not have). Either way, I'm sure if the raw had had that, it would have been in the release.
1) This episode has no "What happened last time" at the beginning.
2) At the end of the episode, the title of episode 6 is said to be "Diplomacy", which is also the title of episode 5.
Have the Great Ladies of Live-evil any explanations for these things?
ahh shoot!... how did i miss changing the next ep title?
It's "Open Seam"
*pokes the QC team for not noticing*
ahh shoot!... how did i miss changing the next ep title?

As for QC, anyone thought of a post-release QC? Like Thanatos here, leechies can do that.
As to your second point, I believe that's already been pointed out to some of the staff on IRC. It was merely a mistake. Perhaps someone who can read kanji (I can read the hiragana, but not the kanji) would be kind enough to post in here what the title of next week's episode is.
By this I mean, as soon as announcement appears on either AnimeNewsNetwork, AnimeOnDVD or Animesuki removes torrents for Death Note. Any 1 of those 3 happening = Death Note dropped.Animesuki has not been accurate in the past, look at what happened with Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch for example. The other two are fine, but I would disregard Animesuki as a reliable source.
Animesuki has not been accurate in the past, look at what happened with Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch for example.
I can read kanji. Why? Because I'm Chinese. XDActually, Tlynnec already posted the total translation of it (on the previous page, I believe). So the title of episode 6 is "Open Seam."
Seriously, though. There's no perfect Japanese-Chinese Kanji conversion, as the words are used in different subtle undertones in either language. Not to mention not all of the episode titles come out in kanji anyways. But I'll entertain you guys for a bit.
(contains kanji; should try Japanese Shift-JIS or Chinese Traditional Big5 encoding)
Episode 5
驅引 Drive/Bait
Episode 6
I don't actually understand the Hiragana after it, but as for your kanji...
绽 Burst/Split
Pff... :-[
I'm happy to know that these series are going to be licensed because they deserve it, but it's a pity because you were doing a really good work.
And all the people like me, living in countries where it's not licensed, are going to bother... >:(
Anyway, thanks a lot. It's so sad how very often the fansubs are much better than the licensed version... at least in many cases I know.
EDIT: OMG, my avatar looks huge!! :o It's a problem of my computer or I have to resize it? Days ago it didn't look like that.
Any idea when 6 will be out? I really can't wait to see how they animate L. He's drawn so fascinatinly in the mangas...
Which is GOOD, but BAAAAD. In it's own way. Good for leechers, who dont' give a damn about being legal in their actions, and bad for...I forgot who it was bad for. It's bad for the licensing companies, who lose out on money. That in turn makes it bad for those of us who do buy DVDs, because licensing costs are expensive and if companies don't make money they can't afford licensing costs. Plus, the DVD prices then go up to try and make up for those people downloading licensed shows. So essentially, the people who sub and download licensed shows are not only hurting the companies, they're hurting their fellow anime fans.
I realize it's the unpopular opinion here, but I find Light to be much more exciting and interesting than L. I'd buy a Light plushie, but I don't think most companies make plushies out of killers...
For the most part I have to agree with keepergirl, I enjoy the presence of Light more than L BUT as we all are aware of the realtionship between the two is what makes Death Note what it is...the eye dropping...drooling phenomenum we all love.

Anyone is in in love with light? oO;; I thought we were all in love with L? :o

I don't consider it's our duty to feed business companies. The truth is we don't need them but they need our money.I personally appreciate the companies bringing anime here to the US. I would much rather watch anime on my TV than on my computer monitor, not only for comfort reasons but also for the better visual quality. R2 DVDs are out for me because my DVD player can't play them (which can be worked around) and because I don't understand Japanese.

Keep in mind, too, that a number of Japanese companies produce anime with the financial aid of American companies. So if the American companies go bankrupt, that's also hurting the original producers of the anime we love so much.
My girlfriend have this fasination for L aswell. Allthough i can see it, i can't apreciate it that much. It might be becouse I haven't got the sexual\cutie\japanese\androgyn\etc.
Visual quality is by no means a issue. I watch all my anime on TV, most Pc's have a S-video output, invest 10$ in cables and enjoy!Meh, visual quality still wouldn't be as good as it is on an official DVD.
And jsut to go back to a previous point, can we see the yaoi NOW? at all??
I never new L had this much of a success with girls, he looks like Gakt and a hobo.
Meh, L really isn't attractive to me. My first thought when I saw him was, "He looks like an otaku." Light looks much more normal, and he definitely wins in the personality department as well.
Does this count?
I would identify the artist.. but I have no idea who it is! If anyone does, please let me know so I can credit them!
Kyaaaa, tlynnec posted the picture I found!!! That's the background image on my cell phone right now. ;D
As for yaoi hints in the manga....
Handcuffs.
Need I say more?
Let yaoi stuff to yaoi anime, DN is completly free of yaoi except for perverted minds. Btw i don't get why girls are interested in yaoi ??? :o ???
Well, I think most girls are only interested in yaoi when it's two hot guys. Plus, I've always found it amusing when guys mock girls for being interested in yaoi while the guys themselves drool over yuri. It's the same thing, just with opposite genders.
I was wondering if Monster might fit the bill. That's one of those series that I downloaded but never watched. I'll get around to it some day. I have heard great things about it.
And yes, Madhouse was the production studio behind both Death Note and Monster.

It's late at night, my stomache aces.
Sting sings of brand new days, but all I see is everlasting pain.
The shivers won't stop, I cold-sweat and with closed eyes wish for death as revelation.
It's been too long, my mind ain't clear and episodes pass before my eyes.
I await it. I crave it. I want it.
I need my Death Note fix...
"Life is like a breath, as short as the stroke of a pen or a blink of my shinigami's eternal life. So Tsubasa, grab it by the balls and tell us who you are!" ;)
I posted in the wrong thread just now. \= anyway, i've edited it. go check. =)
As far as i know this is not a yaoi anime :)And Ichigo Marshmallow wasn't hentai, but I'm sure you can find numerous fanfics out there that involve these severely underage girls involved in all sorts of activities (and I'll bet some of those will even be yuri). The point I'm trying to make is that people have imaginations and will often put characters from shows they enjoy into situations that entertain them. It's not hurting anyone, so it doesn't really matter.
Period.
Too many Yaoi fangirls in this forum... :o
WE ARE EVERYWHERE BABY!

not sure what to say about that but I think only you can say it just right
Meh, visual quality still wouldn't be as good as it is on an official DVD.
Besides, I much prefer using my DVD player as I can turn it off or on and skip through whatever without ever having to get off my bed. :P
That's why I re-encode the fansubs to MPEG-2 format, compensate for overscan, and author the episodes by setting up chapter points and such.
So not only can I watch my favorite subs on my TV, but I get to control where the scenes start and end at as well.
That's why I re-encode the fansubs to MPEG-2 format, compensate for overscan, and author the episodes by setting up chapter points and such.See, all that? Yeah, way too much work. Much easier to go to a video store (or even better, buy online) and pop the DVD in the player.
So not only can I watch my favorite subs on my TV, but I get to control where the scenes start and end at as well.
As DN goes on, my admiration for Light continues to grow. My dislike of L's eyes also continues to grow.
You know, none of these innocent people would have died in the first place if the police and L hadn't made 'Kira' out to be their enemy in the first place. Just a thought.
but did he really have to kill Naomi-san? :( Oh well, I guess it's all in a day's work when you're an evil genius, ne?
You may be right, but then we'd have a boring series where a kid studies for exams and kills prisoners in his spare time. Then again, we cannot forget that innocent people may occasionally become prisoners as well. Light kills them without a second thought, treating them no better than lab rats in scientific experiments. His downward spiral into evil is what makes this show so compelling for me to watch.
Kudos to the L-E team. Another job well done.
I think he places judgement on them. He's often said he only killed someone ebcause they were let free, despite clear evidence against them. With his detectivve skills, I think it would be rather easy for Light to figure out if someone was innocent or not judging his choice on given evidence.
think the most compelling part for me is seeing how far he's willing to go to be able to keep killing criminals. If you think, in the long run, he might even have to kill his father, as he's also on the investigation team. Would he be willing to go that far? And if he was, I think it'd really prove that he's not actually doing this for himself, but for the world, and is really a good guy, ina a kinda evil way. He's ruthlessly good to an extent.
Also, there are SO many times I've wanted to spoil, but I resisted. It's quite hard when someone's come up with an idea you KNOW is wrong or something.
What I find intresting is that Light takes the role that the law usually have, and the things most of you call barbaric are things the law usually do. The only diffrence is that one person instead of multiple instances condemn the criminals. This was essentially what I was getting at. I, myself, believe in the death penalty for murderers (and there are a few other crimes that I believe warrant the death penalty but the law disagrees with me here). All Light started out doing was giving the death penalty to those criminals that the law had already deemed as guilty. If I remember correctly, those criminals were ones who had committed felonies, not really lesser crimes. Only later on did his actions go further, eventually leading him to kill others who committed less severe crimes and even innocents. But that all happened after the police and L had made Light out to be their enemy.
I can see why some people still think Light is not so bad, but his days of killing criminals for justice are long gone. Perhaps somewhere in his head he still thinks all he is doing is making the world a better place, but more and more he is acting out of fear of persecution. The criminals he kills now are used for learning the capabilities of the Death Note rather than fulfilling some sense of duty to the public, and he has shown that he has no problem using this knowledge against innocent people. Light has shown himself to be a highly intelligent individual. A truly just person would try to find a way to continue his crusade while evading capture but at the first sign of trouble Light goes on a killing spree. Are these the actions of a just man?I don't think Light is a just man. He started out as a just man, but he has crossed the line to being a killer now. That doesn't make me respect or admire him any less. I've always found the "bad guys" in shows to be more interesting than the good guys. Light never disappoints me with his intelligence and organization. Episode 7 showed us the he's very good at cleaning up his messes. These are all characteristics that I admire. So as it stands right now, I support Light more than L.
Keepergirl, when I was reading " I don't think Light is just a man" I thought you were going to the relm of no longer human...lol I think that's me. The creators and writers have made his character so unique compared to the normal "killer". The only other person that stands out in my mind like that is "Johan" from Monster...and he barely killed anyone, rather used people to kill each other.Haha, read carefully. I said I don't think Light is a just man. Very different meanings there. ;)
I don't think that any action can ever be entirely good or entirely bad. Anything you do is near bound to have some negative reflection on someone else.I disagree with this statement. I, and I hope most rational people, see no good in rape, child molestation, and a variety of other felonies. Murder is one of the few felonies that sort of has a white side along with the black.

While you may see no good in it, as do I, in fact, those who commit the crimes have to have some motive. It's like saying "I hate this food" but then someone else likes it. It's a difference in opinion, really, and while most may believe it to be wrong, it is not entirely so, as, out of 6 billion people (nearing 7, I believe) there is bound to be a select few who have opposing opinions and, while we say wrong, they say right. When it comes to justice, it's a territorial issue.
Much like the difference in opinion Light and the police have (getting back to the subject). While Light believes he is justice, L believes that he is injustice.
That's what I mean by nothing is always entirely right or wrong.
And there are absolute rights and wrongs in this world, things dictated by nature, things dictated by heaven, etc.
Which takes it right back to my point. Light has developed a god complex. And, because he thinks of himself as a god, he believes that all of his actions fall under the 'absolute right' of "things dictated by heaven." The question is whether the rest of the world agrees with that perception or not. ;)
To Light, removing those that oppose him is no longer a necessary evil. It is a victory to be relished.Very good point. Light's continued evolvement is definitly part of what hooked me to the show and will continue to keep my interest.
A more interesting question might ask if he IS a god. Light differs from everyone else with a god complex in that he actually has godlike powers. Certainly the ability to take life does not necessarily translate into the right to do so, but then again, being a god does not necessitate being good either.
Wow, now there's a perspective I hadn't considered. He certainly has god-like capabilities, but I don't think that makes him a god, for two reasons:
1. The powers are not in fact his own. By definition, they belong to the notebook, and without it he is powerless.
2. Most definitions of a "god" include one key point: they are immortal or near-immortal. Light is neither.
He tries to put himself in risky situations (just think how dangerous was the first encounter with Ray , and the second encounter even more risky).
I feel the need to say that I'm really glad to see these well-thought out posts and people actually analyzing the situations that occur in the episodes, rather than just a bunch of "ZOMG Light sucks!!!111" posts. And I'm actually surprised that there isn't as much hate for Light as I thought there would be at this point. (Either that, or the Light-haters aren't speaking up.)
*keepergirl whacks bobby6 over the head with a paper fan
Those kinds of posts don't belong on this forum, missy! ;)
I was kind of surprised you and Bel didn't speak up after I made that post. I figured you two were probably the biggest Light-haters.
As for the TV in the bag trick: Shouldn't the pen/ pencil be hitting the top of the bag, thus resulting in a noticeable crease along the top? I do think it was a clever idea, though.
He used a piece of lead, or really tiny pencil. I'm not just making this up: he uses it later on in the series, too.
To make matters worse, there's something acoustically different about her voice, at least in the first few episodes. It's like they recorded her in a different studio than everyone else or something. Did anyone else notice this? Or am I just being overly picky because I listen to every line in every episode at least 4-5 times?Well, because you mentioned that, I just went back and listened to her lines in episode 2. While she's outside his door, the acoustics are definitely different, but I'm sure that was intentional. When she is in his room, the acoustics do sound a bit different than they do for the other characters, but I think that might actually be due to her high-pitched voice. Plus, it sort of sounds like she's got a bit of a nasal-ly tone to her voice, which would also make it sound odd in comparison with the rest of the cast.
Well, I am one of those lucky people that the forums are hating on right now, :P so I've only been able to access them twice in the past 2 weeks. :'( That's why I didn't respond sooner ;)Hmm, did you happen to catch Yaoi's post on IRC about setting the IP for the site in your hosts file? If not, let me know on IRC and I can help you do that, which should enable you to get on the site and forums more often.
He used a piece of lead, or really tiny pencil. I'm not just making this up: he uses it later on in the series, too.I actually thought he might be using a smaller pencil. Yay for Light being smart while risking his hide!
Does anyone know why episode 8 and 9 both do not have any seeders? I want to see them really badly! :'( I currently have all of the books published and out in stores ^_^ Sad sad ending ... But if you possibly can, please please please get some seeders? ;)

After watching the last episode I have a new question. Is it ok for L to hide behind the name of a famous person? If L's goal is to use an obviously false name to show that he knows of Kira's limitation, he could have accomplished the same thing by using a famous name from fictional literature. Using a fake name is a prudent precaution given what L suspects about Kira, however, using the name of a real person whose face is well known puts that person at risk. L might assume that Kira would go through the thought process Light does, which is that he cannot use this name to kill on the off chance he pictures the real Ryuga Hideki, but there remains a real possibility that Kira wouldn't care about that and just kill him anyway. Perhaps L must use the name of a real person in order to confer that extra level of protection, but if that is so, surely there must be some Japanese equivalent of Kevin Federline that could be used instead in this situation. My thoughts about this were that possibly L intends on making contact with the people from the two families he most suspects. If he were to do this, he could give each individual a different false name. If only Light believes that this person's name is Ryuga Hideki, and he tries to kill him but ends up killing the real Ryuga Hideki, that would show L immediately that Light is Kira. Of course, if that were the case, he would be playing with and showing disregard for other people's lives, which shows that L isn't always the most moral person either.
Can someone tell me what happened to Ryuk's voice? It is the same dubber for sure but he changed the way he speaks. Anybody noticed it too?Someone was mentioning this on IRC, although he thought it was a different person dubbing Ryuk. I personally noticed a slight difference, but didn't pay much attention to it. Also, through the beginning of the episode, I basically attributed it to Ryuk's withdrawal.
The TV in bag with mini-pencil was a clever idea, but throwing it away the way he did was an unnecessary risk. An empty chip bag and one with a TV in it do not fall the same way. When Light dumped his wastebasket, his mother could have noticed something amiss and being a good mother might have checked to make sure Light wasn't accidentally throwing away something important. Taking it one step further, what if L had dressed up one of his minions as the garbage collector? I think Light must have realized the risk on some level since he makes sure to watch the trash bags get compacted. Factoring in the considerable cost, I'll be surprised if we see this method again anytime soon.
The question I've been working on lately is whether Ryuk wants Light to succeed. The chances of the Death Note falling into the hands of someone more calculating (and thus entertaining for Ryuk) is remote, so should Light ever be captured it would mean the end of Ryuk's fun. However, I can't shake the feeling that Ryuk only appears to be in Light's corner. Like a NASCAR fan who's in it for the crashes, the reason Ryuk is hanging around and observing so closely may be to see an eventual defeat. We saw previously when Naomi gave Light a false name, Ryuk did nothing to assist, though his amusement inadvertently provided a clue. Was Ryuk really unable to say anything? Even though he technically is not supposed to interfere, Ryuk later does in fact assist Light when he locates all the security cameras. Superficially, this is so he can continue eating apples, but I believe the real reason for confirming that there is nowhere to hide from the cameras is to create a challenge for Light. The key factor linking these two incidences is that Ryuk's actions (or inaction) make things harder for Light and force him to think of some devious solution to his situation. I think Ryuk's role in the story is too passive to directly lead Light to ruin, but I wouldn't rule out Ryuk failing to help out at a key moment in the future if it meant being entertained.
Does anyone know why episode 8 and 9 both do not have any seeders? I want to see them really badly! :'( I currently have all of the books published and out in stores ^_^ Sad sad ending ... But if you possibly can, please please please get some seeders? ;)
Oh, I just joined and I didn't get to mention anything earlier in this thread haha. I just want to say that Light is my favourite character in the series. I just like how he is confident and intelligent.Well, first, welcome to the L-E forums. :) Make sure to go introduce yourself in the General Forum (there's a thread there for new users to introduce themselves).
Finally, can anybody update me on the whole Viz situation? It appears that they are definately going to license Death Note since they have licensed the manga. Does anybody know when they are going to license it. I am just afraid because once it's licensed, Live-Evil will stop fan-subbing it and we are going to hear messed up voices in the translated version.
Hi new to this site joined just because of this show i love it.
i watched 3 versions of episode 8 because i wanted to comare the differences in them and live evils is defiantly the best, Cheers
Also one or two things i dont understand.... http://a.scarywater.net/live-evil/ has episode 9 but it does not say what time the episode was uploaded at. im trying to find what site will have the episode first? i cant wait for epsiode 10 it aired last nite and i just wanted to say that because on your prokect site it has episode 10 listed as not being aired yet but it is aired.

Cold sweden? We are having 10C over here (Norway), do you guys have snow now?
Ah, I'm truly looking forward to seeing how things develop in the next episode, with Light's new classmate and all :D

Yeah, in episode 1 Ryuk eats a apple and is totally freaked out about the good taste, because in the Shinigami world nothing has flavour. So light just feeds him apples to keep him happy ;D
One quick little tidbit of information for ya: There actually WAS no apple mentioned in the bible during the fall of Adam and Eve. It only says "fruit" when referring to the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and so it could have been any fruit, rather than an apple.
It took me a while to do the conversion since I'm a stupid American, but I think Detroit, Michigan (where I'm from) is the winner so far at negative 7°C.In NY this morning it was -8°C (18°F). (Of course, this was the city-ish/ Long Island areas. I'm sure it was much colder upstate.)
btw, in that signature bobby, Blue was talking about the ED to.....errr....Asatte I think. ;) ;D

In response to Cougar's question: I basically agree with everything twik said about it (both in the apple representing the downfall of man and the apple-eating thing being a fun trait given to Ryuk).
As for episode 10, I haven't really sat down and watched the final version of it yet, but I really enjoyed the interactions between Light and L. The mindgames with each other were fascinating, although I found fault with some of L's reasoning. However, since Tsubie came back into this thread and she hasn't seen past episode 7, I don't want to spoil anything for her, so I'm holding back on specifics. Tsubie, hurry and watch the last three episodes- they're good. ;)

i mean no matter who it is they deserve a 2nd chance or perhaps even a 3rd and a 4th etc. Its just not right. But heck its what the anime is about and i love it.
Besides. if shinigamis existed whos to know what else exists. Also this opens the possibility of "L" having supernaternal aid / abilities himself. The realm of DN is pretty similar to ours therefore its not normal for a detective to deduce a murderer of having supernatural abilities in which only a name and a face is needed to kill.
There has been some discussion of whether L has a mental disorder, specifically Asperger's syndrome, so it may be that that helps him to deduce the supernatural part of the killings.
furthermore. it isnt right to kill criminals and felons? i mean no matter who it is they deserve a 2nd chance or perhaps even a 3rd and a 4th etc.I very strongly disagree with that statement. I do not believe child killers deserve even a second chance. Nor do rapists, child molesters, and murderers. How many innocent victims must there be before we learn that some people will NEVER be able to control themselves in a civilized society? Seriously, we're not talking about speeding tickets here. I work with children for a living, and they are innocent, trusting, and beautiful. I simply cannot forgive someone who destroys a child's life, whether it be through murder or molestation. In addition to this, crimes like child molestation are perpetuating. A number of criminals performing these acts were victims themselves as children. The cycle needs to stop somewhere. (As for rape, some people don't truly understand the horrors of that crime. I, and many like-minded people, would rather be murdered than raped. Rape is torture of the worst kind, as you are forced to continue your existence with the constant reminder of what you've been through. I feel rape is a crime worthy of the death penalty along with murder.)
But firstly, is it normal (abides the rules) for a shinigami to carry 2 death notes?I believe something is said in the first episode about this by one of the other death gods. If I remember correctly, he implies that Ryuk is not supposed to have a second Death Note. Maybe I ought to look back through that episode...
Well, after that, will "L" push Light to the point where he decides to make the deal with Ryuk ( the Shinigami eyes deal ).Someone unintentionally leaked spoilers to me on another forum, so I know the answer to this. For obvious reasons, I will refrain from posting it here.
zzz i feel sry for them Typesetters. Its irritating to keep editing the post due to grammer , mostly punctuation errors. Also put paragraphs for easier reading. I usually cant be bothered bout those but i know its a pain to read jumbled up stuffs =)Are you referring to editing your own post? Editors are the ones who edit the scripts and stuff (obviously, there are editors for print materials as well). Typesetters style the episode. They're responsible for the dialogue font, the signs in the episode, and that sort of stuff. If you'd like to see what each person is responsible for, have a look at the newly-created Live-Evil FAQ (http://www.live-evil.org/faq/).

If, like Light, you were given the power and the opportunity to create your own morality, would you not be tempted to go down the same path?
I could even pose the old theory...if time travel existed would go back in time and have Hitler executed?...

Here in Norway we have a maximum sentence for 21 years, this works quite allright for now. Since we don't have serial killers or mass rapists etc. The crime repetition rate for murderers here are almost 0.First of all, it wouldn't be a fraction of a second, unless you're dealing with underground gun distribution. Legal gun distribution, at least here in NY (my mind is failing me right now and I can't remember whether these guns laws are set by the state or country) require a waiting period before you get your gun. And chances are, if you're dealing with 'black market' firearms, you're probably already involved in a world that can never be good. (Interesting note: I was just doing some reading online, and it appears that Norway's laws regarding gun control are more relaxed than those of the US, and gun ownership there is higher than in the US. So guns are also widely available in Norway, and yet that doesn't seem to affect their crime rates [unless it's bringing them down].)
...
I know that crime is diffrent around the world, and when you actually have repetative criminals there is no problem to lock them up for good. I can't see why you would have to kill them. How many innocent people do you think the american legal system have murdered?
It is so tragic when you read that they find evidence that contradicts a verdict and the person was killed just a few days ago....
Death penalty is contradicting the human rights, and when you take the boy away from he's mother and kills him. Becouse he pulled a trigger? Should one really be able to ruin ones life with such a small decission. Guns are widely available in the US and danger lurks almost every corner, atleast for the less fortunate ones. Should we condemn them for infinity for just a fraction of a second decission?
People who get convicted on a first-degree murder charge are usually cold, hard, uncaring, psychopathic and very intelligent people. The type of people who would look their mother in the eye as they stabbed her repeatedly.

In the UK, gun crimes are almost unknown. Over this summer, a police officer was shot when pursuing some criminals, and it made the front page, as it was such an infrequent event. I don't know about murder rates here, but I know that guns aren't what cause murders that do happen here.
However, we also don't have the death penalty. Maybe, in countries where it applies, the severity of punishment is proportional to the access to the ability to murder? If that makes sense?
This has gotten quite off topic so I will let this be for now. We could talk more on IRC if you want
Anyway, I think most of your points are based on ignorance, no matter how much facts you cough up.
The problem with questions like this (murder, guns, death penalty, if you had a death note..., etc.) is that questions like 'is it a good thing' and 'is it a bad thing' can't be answered at the moment of knowing.
And even many places where guns are allowed often had oddball laws... in the US many states guns are legal but nunchaku, double-edged blades, brass knuckles, etc. are illegal (a gun is clearly more dangerous than any of these other archaic weapons).
I see that keepergirl and I come from completely diffrent places here, when you list reasons for the death penalty I only see reasons why not to have it. And the last point is quite intresting, all though completely nonsense. The main point after catching criminals is to get them back into civilization. If you look at murdercases, how many murderes actually commit another one? A tiny persentage, and they are mostly part of organized crime. Which i said earlier is something to strike hard down on.Did you really think I would let this die with your post in which you imply I'm ignorant?
Anyway, I think most of your points are based on ignorance, no matter how much facts you cough up. I don't think I will ever understand the death penalty, even if someone would rape my girlfriend I would not want to see them dead. Better with a lifetime of regret than a few years of martyrdom.

If you follow the links, you'll see that things like "Assualt (homocide)" is pretty far down the list, generally around #15. Politically charged issues like 'guns' are often overblown. A madman with a gun can kill 20-or-so people before he is stopped, but a madman with an explosive can kill more, and a madman with a poison or toxin can kill even more. Yet the gun is often illegal, and the latter two are legal (explosives are used for mining and demolition, and toxins are avaliable over-the-counter in supermarket and hardware store shelves). And even many places where guns are allowed often had oddball laws... in the US many states guns are legal but nunchaku, double-edged blades, brass knuckles, etc. are illegal (a gun is clearly more dangerous than any of these other archaic weapons).I agree 100% with all this. These issues are often overblown, particularly gun control. That's actually why I did not want this discussion to turn into a debate about guns, because there is no conclusive evidence for either side of the argument (although the same can probably be said about the death penalty).
"Once there was a farmer whose horse ran away. His neighbor came over to tell him he felt sorry for him, only to be told in return: "Who knows what is good or bad?" It was true. The next day the horse returned, bringing with it eleven wild horses it had met during its adventurous escape. The neighbor came over again, this time to congratulate the farmer on his good fortune. Only to be told once again "Who knows what is good or bad? True this time too; the next day the farmer's son tried to tame one of the wild horses and fell off, breaking his leg. His neighbor came back again one more time to express how bad he felt But for the third time all the farmer had to say was: "Who knows what is good or bad?" And once again the farmer was correct, for this time, the king of that land had started a war and the following day soldiers came by to draft young men into the army, but because of his injury the son was not taken."
Anyway, I think most of your points are based on ignorance, no matter how much facts you cough up.
Though he has never committed a single act out of 'good' intent, or a single 'good' act, much good has come about because of him, and the world is a better place b'cos the evil man was born, and allowed to live.
tlynnec whay do ya read the manga?
Because I started reading the manga long before the anime started, so I'm thoroughly hooked on the manga . ;D
Good thing too, since L-E would never have picked up DN if I hadn't wanted to do it and talked everyone else into it :P
Fortunately, the storylines and even the dialogue are almost identical, so its easy to enjoy both without feeling like one is "wrong" or "right."
Death Note is my favourite anime...
I'm listening to OST now and it's really great. Especially L's Theme is awesome. I believe that I missed most of the music while watching the episodes so now I can appreciate it even more.
I hope my neighbours won't call the police because of the deafening music
I actually find it genuinely hard to find a favourite anime. I just can't label one, as I know so may great ones. Death note is most certainly top 5, maybe even top 3.
So far, Death note, for me, only has good points.
Along with L freaking out about the Death Gods. I suppose if I hadn't read the manga, I'd have thought he was having a heart attack.... How many of you thought he was?
I've seen enough Misa and her ,,creativity" to last me a life time :D Her letter, her intent, her story, hell even her job are just random accourances, and her mind is just... NOT there. I didn't even imagine that that girl would actually complicate the fight between Light and L with all those direct references to Death Gods and their eyes. Light managed to pull it off for a while with the whole ,,code" idea, but I wonder if his little game won't fall appart from that stupid joke that almost burned him during the camera incident, as in telling L about Death Gods (eating apples, lol).Well, it's not her personality or intelligence that makes me want more Misa per se... it's that she's fking HOTTTT.
a few things i noticed about this episode.
Light made a loud gasp when she mentioned the eyes, how did no one see that?
agreed on L's overacting display, to have such a calm and collected guy fall out of his chair is too much
and last but not least, when the girl showed up to get her sundae, wouldnt the two death gods see each other? Im assuming they would, but then the next question would be, would they tell their human friends about it?
and why no death note this week?!?!?!!!!!1?11/
Other than that I think she's one helluva crazy dense chick.
aaarrrggg... reading these last couple posts it has been SO hard to keep my mouth shut. Curse you manga spoilers, curse you! I'll just say that Misa has more than her looks to make her interesting...Is she not as dense as she seems? Please tell me it's true. Looks + brains = ultimate sexy.
i would like to add that people can use the spoiler tag to add spoiler if needed :Could always use the code tag instead of having to add spaces.
use it like this : [ spoiler ] your spoil [ /spoiler ] .
Just be sure to remove the space
exemple :
your spoiler
There is no Death Note this week because no episode aired in Japan this week.
You can't fansub what doesn't exist.
yeah, the scene in the cafe does't happen in the manga. but the manga also makes it clear (later) that a death god can't tip off their human to the presence of another death god; so the scene in the cafe could happen without revealing light and misa to each other, though obviously Rem and Ryuk would know.
ya when does it air because i want to watch it so badly. Go Youtube where there is an amzing number of fans. One person posted episode 13 and got 18,000 hits thought they lied and it was jsut junk.
