It's been ages since I've been to L-E and I found the above discussion interesting, if not a little disappointing.  I was surprised by various members' responses to Watari's comments, which I felt were not attacking at all so the defensiveness exhibited in the responses confused me.  Certainly, I understand that the internal workings of a group and their associated problems can be a hindrance or a motivation to the work of the group.  And, I also understand that fansubbing is a voluntary thing.  However, I don't think you should completely disregard what Watari is saying.  In essence, despite its voluntary nature, you are providing us fans a service, which naturally we appreciate wholeheartedly. A service it is still and because of that quality, do you have some responsibility, not just to fans but to your colleagues and yourself.  If this was truly a just a personal hobby in which the fanbase had nothing to say on the issue, then you would not be providing the torrents to the rest of us.  Thankfully you do but I feel, in my obviously humble opinion, that the constructive criticism put to you was not a propos.  That's all I really wanted to say.  I think that it is delightful that you spend your time on the old anime, and as fan, I am personally willing to wait for the next releases.  I would like to emphasize, because somehow I think that I will be slammed for stating my opinion (based on the reaction to Watari's post), that I have not nor have ever complained about the speed of your releases.  My comments are not intended to even touch that subject. Period.

Now, I think that I made the poll 50-50 just now.  The only reason why I said NO is because I remember how heartwrenching it was when Tofusensei disappeared and L-E had to cease fansubbing it.  I don't want to see that happen again, personally.  On the otherhand, fans like myself had never known of L-E until Tsubasa S2 so it might be a good PR project.  I believe in the above posts a translator came forward.  I don't see why S3 would have to be dependent on Tofusensei.  I believe that if enough staff members show interest you can probably do it without him.  On the other hand, I don't know the internal workings of the group so that's just a shot in the dark.

Well, that's my two cents anyway.  Back to ye ol' grindstone.

Cheers.

Current & Future L-E Projects / Suggestion - Gakuen Alice
« on: August 08, 2006, 04:34:25 am »
Once again, I ask to humbly write in these forums.   :)  It's been awhile, admittedly, but I was thinking about what Tsubasa was saying about L-E having to drop Tsubasa Chronicles and Nana and the potential loss of fans, and then I thought, well it doesn't hurt to ask, does it?  So I was wondering if L-E would consider taking on Gakuen Alice.  I know it has a pretty large fan base. It's an anime from a couple of years ago and it hasn't been licensed. I know L-E would do credit to this anime. I don't know about Raws, mind you, but I assume (big assumption here) that you can still download them.  I know that I am showing ignorance here, so apologies.  Still, perhaps one of the powers above might consider taking on this project.

Thank you.

P. S. I wasn't sure where to post this so I started a new topic. :-\

There's love still.  I still do hope Tofusensei is all right as you said he's gone again.  Either that or he has some serious drama issues.  :D  I wish L-E still did Nana at least; I miss that one the most.  *sniff*  Still reading and still a L-E fan.   ;)

I know what you are speaking about Tsubasa.  As I have said in past posts, I don't often make comments in the forums, but I like to read them (mostly I pick up other interesting anime this way.)  I was a bit stunned by DB's site and commentary etc.  They seem really..."intense"  But who I am to question anyone.  I am after all a lowly leecher with substandard Japanese.   :-\  Anyway, I really like Live Evil's subs, along with a few other fansub groups, and these groups always seem to be the slowest. ;)  But it's worth the wait because the quality is ssssssoooooo good, it just makes the anime experience that much more enjoyable.  I guess it just depends on who you want to cater to at the end of the day and, in my humble opinion, DB caters to those who need the weekly fix.  *shrug*  I do hope at some time, when is most convenient for Tofusensei and other involved individuals, that they do finish the fansubbing of Nana and Tsubasa Chronicles.  Cheers.

Well, I am just relieved that Tofusensei is all right and there is nothing serious.  It's called Fansub love Tofusensei. ;D  Anyway, I hope whatever existing issues  do get worked out to everyone's satisfaction.  I'm sad that a good and happy thing will not continue but I look forward to new projects.  Thanks for the fansubs.

Ok then, so Tofusensei is alive and nothing seriously wrong has happened.  Well, that's some relief.  Maybe he's just not in the mood to translate or maybe it's his evil twin online and that's why there haven't been any new episodes.  As long as no serious tragedy is involved in this delay, I am satsified to wait. Sorry Tsubasa and others. :-\  I do hope however that Tofusensei has the opportunity to translate them all before they become licensed simply because the quality of translation by Live Evil is better than the DVD subtitles.

huh.  I just logged on to see what was going on.  I usually wait to watch the week's Tsubasa offering for that one bad day at work.  It's happened but no episode.  I don't usually demand to know when an episode release is happening and I'm not going to start now, but I am concerned.  There seems to be a radio silence from Tofusensei and that seems to be unusual, that is in my limited forum experience.  So the question arises, Tofusensei are you all right???  I know you said there was a lot of personal issues a few weeks ago.  Is it related?  Despite our clamouring for episodes in this forum, there is strong undercurrent of alarm for you in these posts.  Perhaps even a helloo will alleviate some of the uneasiness.

Talk to us!!! ???

I think Nana is the number #1 anime I am watching from Live-Evil  and I believe I said it before, I like Nana because of the plot and character development.  I'm a CLAMP fan so I watch Tsuabasa.  Some of the others I do not like and some of them I have never heard of. When I have some hard drive space maybe I'll try some of these unknowns.   :)

P. S.  Some of us do thank Live Evil, are we supposed to thank them every hour?

I just thought I would log in and express admiration and awe at the speed and quality of these releases.

Thank you Live Evil and DB.
Ciao :)

errata: sorry I meant judo not sumo in post above about Yawara.  Was watching a thing on Sumo at time of writing and just caught the mistake.  Sorry Yawara fans.

Hiya,
I don't usually register for anime forums but I do read them.  It's usually where I pick up on other interesting anime.  I was a bit dismayed that no one had truly answer gumbaloom and I thought, huh, I might provide an answer. It's not going to be very sophisticated but here goes.

Firstly, it's probably a matter of taste.  I've watched the first 30 episodes of Yawara and never got into it.  The whole sumo thing was a bit too much maybe.  Also, I watched them at animefests and I admit that the crowd of 12 year old boys oohing and ahhing at this particular series may have helped to turn me off it.  While there was good character development, to be honest, the plot never caught my imagination.

As for Galaxy express 999, it's ok.  I've watched a few and I would say, for me, it's about on par with Tsubasa.  I never really got into Captain Harlock; oddly I found that particulary series very boring.  The spaceship thing just doesn't work for me all the time. (Cowboy Bebop I think it one of the few exceptions.)  Now the series on Esmeralda was good which made me try Captain Harlock again but once again, I couldn't get into it.

I will admit, I didn't get into Tsubasa until the third episode and I don't think Tsubasa is the best out there. If you asked me to choose between Tsubasa and Nana, I would say Nana because the characters have a bit more dimension to them.  However, I am fond of both though neither is my favourite right now.

Did that answer you question?  Although, admittedly, I may not be a hardcore fan so perhaps my answer is not good enough. Still looking forward to the next episode of Tsubasa and thanks for subbing it.

P. S.  I love CLAMP, always have, but I can't say I'm up on the trends in anime.
P. S. S.  real question: do you think knowing the manga before the anime changes your opinion of the anime?  I see them as two different art forms but it has been implied in this thread that the animes simply do not meet the manga standards.

Sorry for the long post. :-\
