Title: What game console are you getting?
Post by: mamochan on November 17, 2006, 04:31:03 am
Who's getting the PS3 or Wii?

I'm getting neither because:

a) PS3 is too steep for my wallet. No gaming unit is worth that much ($659 CDN). Thats insane. Even If I had the money for it, I would put it to a better use e.g. computer upgrades, anime :)

b) Nintendo hasn't been the same since Super Nintendo days (I miss Super Mario 3  ??? )

Well, I already said this on IRC, but I'll post it here, too.

I'm probably just going to buy a PS2 now that the price is low enough for me to consider it worth it.  It'll go along nicely with my Gamecube, which I dearly love.  Maybe I'll get a PS3 around the time PS4 is coming out, if there are games I actually want to play on it.  I'm not counting on getting a Wii.

I respectfully agree with Mamo. None of the consoles these days are worth it. Video games' audiences changed, and thus the game producers had to make games to be stomached by pop-culture whores. Basically, there are no good games, and the price has gone up exponentially - forget that noise. But there are some good games for the computer.

While games and thier respective consoles go up with every system, you have to realize everything else is as well.

do you recall what gas and a gallon of milk was when the super nintendo was the latest and greatest? I recall SNES games being 40 or 50 bucks at Toy-R-Us and that was expensive back then.
I believe that a lot of people feel the snes was the last standout system was because the sega genesis was it's only compeitor...compare that to Nintentdo,Sony, and Microsoft today.
Also the SNES had a vast library of 3rd party games, the reason the first PS was so successful.
600+ is too much for a gaming console but 700 is cheap for a blue-ray player and that's another angle they are going for.

I love my nes,snes,64 and cube...I'll eventually get a wii but not till next year.

P.S. I bought my dreamcast on 9.9.99 and still have it hooked up to the tele...it's not dead to me!!

My ex also had a Dreamcast (I don't know if he still has it, or if it's still working).  Many hours were spent by the both of us playing Soul Calibur.  That game was awesome.  Soul Calibur 2 just isn't the same.

I still have my Sega Genesis.  It still works, and I still occasionally play it.  My family also has our Turbo Grafix (I think that's how they spelled it) 16, and my brother just recently hooked up his SNES to the TV in the den so we can all play it.  We love the old school systems.

I don't have any interest in any of the consoles. Didn't even buy a XBox 360. Even the "180" is only still plugged in for the XBMC. I still play my PS2 (working my way through Star Ocean 3), but with work/fansubbing/friends/family and what not I have very little time for it anymore.

Wow... I'm a n00b here. I haven't had a console game system since the Sears Super Video Arcade (Intellivision Clone). You remember that: http://www.vidgame.net/SEARS/SUPVIDARC.html

Hehe... The computer completely took over with the wonderful Sierra adventure games (Kings Quest, Space Quest). Computers made consoles unnecessary for me.

Peace!

Well, I want the PS3 and Wii, but not enough to actually buy them. It doesn't matter though since my boyfriend will buy all of them if i wait long enough and then i'll just "borrow" them. ;)

And as a side note, they totally should have stuck with "revolution" for the system name. It was sooooooooooo much cooler than "wii."  :'(

Bought a Wii.  The sports pack is fun for the whole family.  Waiting for winter break to become addicted to Zelda.

If would get one it would be PS3, like the blue-ray drive. Like Gran Turismo.
But i don't think I'll have the money, but in 6-8months perhaps. Then the prices have dropped quite a bit. So maybe I'll buy one for my girlfriends birthday.

So... Is this one of those things like when the husband buys the wife a powertool for Christmas even though she would have no interest and then just uses it himself? ;)

Theoretically, if I were to get one I would probably get a Wii since I want to sword fight!  However in reality I probably won't be getting any console simply because it's not in my budget.

Yay for the Wii :) Since I can play Zelda without it, I will not get it... until they come out with something like Pikmin 3  :D

Computers can be used for everything... Work, TV, Games, Communication and much more. I dont need a console nor a TV.

Because of YaoiBoy's comment, I went and searched the Sierra games (I have one- it's a rather strange ocean game where you have to clean up the oceans and search for this one whale).
Space Quest seems to have infinite references to different sci-fi series.
http://www.sierra.com/en/home/games/game_info.prod-L2NvbnRlbnQvc2llcnJhL2VuL3Byb2R1Y3RzL3NwYWNlX3F1ZXN0.platform-global.html
I don't get all of them, and most of the ones I do get are Trek references. But this one I found funny- the spacelab Arcada, perhaps a reference to Harlock's Arcadia?

So I'm not completely off-topic-
I WANT a PS3, and I may get one after I leave for college or whatever else I may do after high school. My grandma gave me some cash for a laptop and other college supplies, and I may use that partially on a PS3. But there are PS2 games that I like, and I don't see many good ones coming out for the PS3 (but I don't want to give up my Xenosaga series).
