Title: The Snow Queen
Post by: gumbaloom on July 01, 2005, 10:41:40 am
Hey all,

New Project from Live-eviL. We're pleased to release episode 1 of the NHK anime "The Snow Queen" based on the classic Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale.

It's been expanded a bit from the original tale but we're sure you'll love watching it just as much as we love working on it.

Let us know what you think of this new retelling of this classic tale!

just found a nasty error ...

the creator's name AREN'T Hans Christian Anderson ... it is Hans Christian Andersen

the *son is commonly swedish while we danes (and since he was a dane him as well) commonly uses *sen :)

I think this is a case of ENGLISH spellings and DANISH spellings here...

For example...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books-uk&field-author=Anderson%2C%20Hans%20Christian/026-1714208-2264469

A lot of books use Anderson and not Andersen. So I think its a case of horses for courses here whether the English or Danish spellings are used. Its the same with the spelling of Kay. It CAN be Kai be we wen't with the English spelling of the name.

So it was just a choice on our part to use the English and not the Danish spellings ^_^.

Regards

well ... his name was no matter how you look at it 'Andersen' that some uses 'Anderson' because that they pronunce it that way, would compere to that i called Jostein Gaarder (norwegian author of Sofie's world along others) Jostein Gårder because we on danish commonly pull two A's following each other together to å ... that make no sence does it?

... and the boy ... i have allways seen his name spelled as Kay

and following your link ...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/026-1493492-2835662

thats a good bit more named Andersen than Andreson even though its the same :p ... whats right ... the danish (mostly used) or the english pronuncement?

I have the old Anime movie version of this(which is poorly dubbed, but still quite nice), how far has this series been expanded?

Few weeks back I was kind of worried that no one, sadly, was subbing this series, leaving it unnoticed by many but I'm glad L-E is willing to pick this one up despite having many other ongoing projects.

Asides that I initially thought this series is a mere seven episode series or so that was how the official site hinted at that time, only to find out the other day how wrong I was.

Anyway, a great job done on the series and please keep it up.

As Laired allready says, L-E have allready a lot of ongoing projects. I'm glad to see this project coming up.
About the series,
I have readed the fairy tale, but the anime doesn't really looks similar. At any case it was for ~14 years ago for me since I readed the fairy tale and it's great to see this in anime style. (Wow (39) that much series ? Let me say.. 900 minutes, I kid should sleep well after watching this animated fairy tale.)

Good job L-E, love to see this project ongoing.

The next couple of episodes should hopefully follow in the next few weeks.  Though they would probably be done faster if I wasn't typing here...

Thank you so much for picking up this series; I saw it in Japan two weeks ago (episode where Gerda meets the traveling salesperson with the trunk) and loved it, and I've been trying to track down subtitled episodes ever since. If there's anything I can help with besides translating, let me know -- email is thefunch, domain is gmail.com.

Hmm... Someone had already brought up up the subject of the spelling of "Andersen"...

Very nice you of you to take on this one. Its the kind of series I really like :)
Hope to see more soon of this...

Noted a very minior "error" in the grammar.
The sentence "You have to be nice to one other at school" (00:07:47)
Think that should be "You have to be nice to one another at school" in this context...
Very minior indded...

Keep up the good work and don't forget about 3000 Leagues In Search Of Mother ;)

We are most grateful!

Kind of odd, we´re pretty good at spotting good new series and somehow SnowQueen almost passed under our radar. Thankfully some L-E lover saw the release and tipped us off. You should like... advertise. ;)

Have a nice day.

On another forum I've read that there is a typo in the kana/romaji for the ending credits "Daisuki na kimi ni". I ordered the CD that has the song and checked the lyrics in the liner notes, and there is in fact an error in the chorus. It should read as follows:

daisuki na kimi ni hayaku ai ni yukou
ima kaze ni dakarete hashitteyukunda
daisuki na kimi ni hayaku ai ni yukou
kimi no ano ieni akari ga tomoru koro.

rather than "kimi no ano hikari akari ga tomoru koro".

Title: Re: The Snow Queen
Post by: gumbaloom on August 09, 2005, 06:41:00 am
Episode 2 is translated, timed, edited and typeset but its waiting on a certain someone to do some final checks and get the ep in to QC and that person isn't me.

Episode 3 is translated, timed, partially typeset(OP/ED shifted + signs typeset). The editor is waiting on Episode 2 to be finished before editing Episode 2 in anger.

I say no more :)

I decided to check to check this anime out while waiting for your other releases, and I admit, I like it. :XD It's like Hayao Miyazaki's work, so I like it a lot. It's a different pace than most anime released now.

I'll be waiting in anticipation for future releases of this series. ^_^

And thanks to everyone who are working on this!

:edit:

Oh, and by the way, at the end of the first episode, when Kay's father tells them to hurry up, someone made a typo. XP

"Nina and Mrs. Matilde are waiting fo us."

Nothing big, but just thought I'd point that out. :)

And lastly (I feel like I'm bothering a lot about this... XD ), is the singer Kasumasu Oda or Kasumasa Oda? Oddly enough, I can only find a Kasumasa Oda.

It's "sa". CDJapan has him listed, though, as Kazumasa Oda (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/list_from_code_banner.html?key=218568). The CD that contains "Daisuki na kimi ni" is Soukana (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=FHCL-2023), track 3.

BTW the version of "Daisuki" that is in the ending credits is so chopped up from the original, it sounds like they re-recorded a version just for the show; the album version has backup singers singing "Daisuki na kimi ni" while Oda sings "nando mo nando mo...", which isn't heard in the show.

And ty for having it (as well as some other releases) via XDCC; I'm now behind a university firewall and I can't even VPN out right now to my servers at home to download via Bittorrent.

Whoow, 2 torrents at the same day, first I saw my RSS Agrretor popping up Tsubasa with the news saying there will be an exclusive song by Ora. So I started to download. After somewhere in the midday I go back, downloaded in just 30 minutes (thx all seeders), uploaded for about 3 hours, ratio seems to be ok and then Snow Queen, what a great suprise!
But what should I do now? Watch both at once? I have other things to do? Which to see first? You gave a big dilemma you know that :P.

I probarly just want to say, thx, I'm so glad it's not dead! (Owh, at aniDb, enviresphre, animesuki and animeyumi I saw it too... You truely are everywhere.)
Keep it going, don't worry about the dillema  ;D.

Two errors in the subbing:

At 8:08
"Oh dear, she's looks more and more like him every day"
either omit "looks" or change "she's" to "she"

At 9:51
"That night it hinted that blue snow would follow shortly, Gerda's town was getting even colder."
sounds like "as" is missing between "night" and "it" ("That night as it hinted that blue snow would follow shortly, Gerda's town was getting even colder") but it depends on where the translator was going with that sentence

Just wanted to point those errors out, even though it won't be re-released. If you're interested, I can QC; I'm a writer, so I have a strong background in English and proofreading.

We're always taking applications for good QC'ers.

Please do bear in mind that you can't just QC one series. QC'ers are expected to try and look at everything that comes through the QC channel.

If you're interesting come and introduce yourself on IRC (note use a proper IRC client not the java one on the website)

I used 2 torrent client the official one and bitlord in -2 PCs-. I don’t know if it’s the tracker or that I just have to do some configurations to my client. Can anyone help me with that please?.

Your net connection is being strange. You could always come and get it off XDCC bot on IRC ^_^;;;

The torrent is working, 4972 happy downloaders at time of writing would back this up.

Also Episode 3 is currently undergoing editing so it's a little further down the line ^_^;;;

As always, stellar job from everyone who worked on this.  ^_^

Slightly off-topic, by my sister and I were wondering... is the name of this group 'live' as in "I live in this house" or 'live' as in "We sell live bait here."  Just wondering, because we can never decide how to say it when we're talking about fansubs.  Lol.

actually i didn't know what snow queen was all about. i just download to see other L-E's project, the only anime i watch from L-E is initial d and i like the crystal clear quality of the video. i downloaded snow queen to see the anime's quality and all i could say that im impress with the way how L-E encode their videos.

anyway snow queen's story is a bit on the slow side but nevertheless, it's quite entertaining.

There are two different pronounciations. The founder of the group, Sol, who came up with the name says "live" like "give". Other people in the group say "live" like "dive", so either one is okay :D

Me I like the "dive" one :)

As much as I wanna do fansubbing logic dictates that a) should come first....

If the tracker information is correct, it's been >24 days since ep3 was finished and put up.  Maybe you should just tell other fansubbers out there it's ok to do it.  For some reason the fansubbing scene seems to get competitive and people either compete to see who can do it "better" or will drop it if they see someone else working on it.
Title: Re: The Snow Queen
Post by: gumbaloom on October 03, 2005, 07:54:24 am
Cypherunk I'd rather that Snow Queen didn't go the way Initial D does with people getting all antsy about the rate of releases. In the grand scheme of things Snow Queen is ticking over rather nicely. Maybe you havent looked at series like Creamy Mami (6 months without a release), Galaxy Express 999, Akazukin Cha Cha (14 months since the last release). So the fact that Snow Queen is coming out fairly regularly is actually quite good.

Now for your information Episode 4 got typeset this weekend and as I write this post is actually in QC. Now it *has* been ready for most of the week but tell me, if you've been working all week going out at 7am in a morning and only coming in at past 8 in the evening would YOU feel like doing any fansubbing ? :).

People appreciate the work we do because we take care with what we do. I love this show as do the other people working on the series but when the editor is holding down a job, i've got work and school during the week meaning I'm out most of the day during the week and the encoder is only at home over the weekends for the past few weeks we can't exactly turn out an ep every 2 day's. So I'm sorry that we can't meet your expected "release rate" but as always the golden rule of fansubbing is real life comes first ;).

Title: Re: The Snow Queen
Post by: bullz97 on October 05, 2005, 06:50:02 am
Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing.  We all have too much to do it always seems -- and speaking of hours, I routinely get up at 7:30-8 but go to sleep at 4...  :'(  Got to stop doing that...  I know how you feel.  I don't expect you to do it any faster, that's why I suggested that maybe you should just tell someone else to do it or something.  It's ok for some people for shows to come out one every so many months, but, for many of us, this is just way too much...  It shouldn't take over a year to see one series!  But, if each episode comes out at even a more optomistic rate than the 6 months you mentioned of let's say one month apart, it adds up to over a year...  And, I'm sorry, but, I subscribe to the belief that it's not a good argument to point at a worst case scenario example and say "at least it's better than THAT" and it's supposed to automatically be ok.  Anyway, I don't mean to sound "antsy" about it, and I hardly expect one episode a day or something crazy like that, but, it's driving me crazy that the only group out there even willing to touch the project is releasing only moderately better than one episode per month.

I'm not asking you to give up real life things that have to be done, nor am I asking you to spend insane numbers of hours fansubbing, instead I'm asking you if there isn't some way to convince some other group to pick it back up.  I'd say Anime-4ever, but, they are honestly discussing ah *coughs* "borrowing" your scripts rather than subbing it themselves...

At any rate, I want to reiterate the fact that I'm not accusing you or complaining about the time it takes you specifically, I'm just complaining that the only other group out there that has even touched it has all but dropped it with only one person working on it and not really even that.  Over the years, I've just gotten the impression that the fansub scene has a problem with competitiveness in a field where no money is earned.  They try to compete to see who can do the latest popular thing fastest or best and bicker like crazy that so-and-so stole this or that, but, when it comes to something like this they decide it's not important enough and just drop it because they don't want to compete.  Maybe this is wrong, but, this is how it has started to feel over the years.

Anyway, again, I'd like to apologize.  I really don't mean for it to come out this way, but, I don't know how else to put it.  I don't blame you at all, I just wonder if there isn't anything that can be done.

heeey it is me who said I will steal your scripts  ;)
Well I did say that but then.. do thieves say they would?? Of course if I were to use the scripts I will say that in the credits...

Some people at our channel "a4e" suggested that we join forces with you guys in this release but when I did the h264 file.. I heard that some of the staff here did not like it.. saying that s/he could not play the file correctly.......

Anyway.. the reason a4e dropped it is because I lost the translator.. after she promised me with honor to do the full series.. she vanished after the first ep  :-\ and I loooooooove classic anime... we never do fansub but I only wanted to do this one and now I don't have a translator  :'(

I'm welling to work with l-e if they would like.. I have full staff of QCers, editors and myself as an encoder.. but I would like to release snow queen in h264.. I'm sure the encoder here would know why... if he got the HQ raw files that is  ;)

So... if you did not like to work together then I declare it again that I might use your scripts, might edit it a little, "you can't stop me.. you can call me whatever you want  ;D" but you will have the credit for it  :)

:o I've watched the first two episodes so far....its really good! The character animation kind of reminds me of Nausicaa for some reason...I guess it's just the way they are drawn and colored. :)

I LOVE the ending song to it...anyone know what its called? I'd love to download it somewhere.

Please don't stop subbing this, I really am stating to enjoy it. :)

Heh, the "crowd" of us fans is steadily growing; I really love the calm pace of the story. And the drawings.. Whoa, it's simply the perfect anime for night-watching, right before you go to bed. ^^

As for the ending song, it's name is Dai Suki Na Kimi Ni (大好きな君に) and the author is Kazumasa Oda, the song is from the album Soukana if that's of any help. I actually managed to find the album through.. Ahem.. A japanese file sharing programme. Buying the record may be a bit more difficult, I only found japanese sites full of kanji that sold it so.. Well, I wish you luck anyway. It's possible, and the song's definetely worth it. Even though you get a better feeling when watching the pictures in the anime ending. ^^

Am glad to hear many of you like this series as much as I do. However work and other commitments has been keeping me from translating more episodes this few months. I'm working on the the sixth episode at the moment, with more to come soon. Many thanks to you all, especially the staff members, for your hard work and support.

It doesn't ruin the show for anyone else that it takes them 40+ days to do it?  It's been way over a month now and still no 5.  This show goes on for 39 eps.  You know if we continue at this rate none of us will ever see the end of it.  At the current rate things are going, if releases continue at the current average rate of release of apx 38 days (excluding the first because I don't know when they first picked it up, and excluding ep5 because it's still not out yet) it will take 1404 days to see the entire show.  That's 3.84 years!  This isn't IntialD or whatever, it's a show the big public broadcasting station, NHK, is airing once a week and have already aired up to ep27 of...

I'm sorry, I know I'm coming off rude, and I wish I knew a better way to say it, but, over a month per episode is just killing me.  I want to see more of this show and no one else will do it, whether because they don't care or because this group is.  Thing is, I'm not so sure this group really cares, else would we really see releases taking over a month each with only one exception (which was still nearly two weeks, though two weeks is a lot more livable.)

If you had bothered to read the rest of this thread/credits on the subs you would realise that the people who work on the series don't have huge amounts of free time.  Episode 5 is currently being edited and has taken a good week or so longer than planned.  It'll be finished as quick as I can (which is when I feel the script is in a good enough condition to go into qc).  If you want to see the eps faster why not join us and help out.  Any help would be useful just message me with what you feel you can contribute and I'll see what I can do.

Cypherphunk you seem a little misguided if I might say. You seem to think that the staff working on Snow Queen don't have lives.

Spymon and I both have jobs and I have school as well. On a weekday I'm regularly out of the house for 12+ hours each and every day. I have 12 hours of classes every week in a place that takes 1.5 hours to get there and back from. I'm also holding down a job for 2 different companies and over the past 90 days for just ONE of those companies I've completed 125 merchandising calls.

We aren't paid to fansub Snow Queen it's our HOBBY. If you were paying us money to fansub they you could very well demmand timely episode delivery but as it is you're not. Paying the bills and making sure we get our homework done on time has to come first. Let's say Spymon does finish editing, I've got a big 35% of module assignment due 16th December, do you expect me to drop that and typeset the episode just because YOU demmand more episodes ????. I'm sorry if this sounds ungrateful/rude or whatever but in my book a big university assignment worth 35% of a module is more important than someone demanding fansubs.

I've not been doing much fansubbing of late not because I don't care anymore about the shows I'm working on it's because I'm too frigging tired most of the time when I get home. Well wouldn't you be if you came home at 9pm at night after a 13/14 hour day ???

Anyhow the point of this illustration is we're real people. This all too often seems to get lost/forgotten by general leecherdom.

Now Cypherphunk bearing in mind that a) you're not paying us b) you're not actively contributing to the fansubbing process (eg you're just a leecher) you've got 4 choices -

1) Gives us a break for heavens sake, yes we're still working on it, no we haven't stopped caring about it and you'll get your episodes when they're done.

2) Learn Japanese (note thats what I'm doing at school so I will be able to translate fansubs in the future so it is for the common good -_-)

3) Actually be proactive and help us out if you care that much about the timely delivery of fansubs eg become a QC'er / learn a fansubbing trade

4) Go find some speedsub group who will do a bad job but they'll release 2 episodes a week. Note - we don't care if other groups do it. The question is if you "persuaded" a speedsub group to do it could you be assured of a high quality job which we always try to do with any fansub that live-evil releases ? :)

Ok @gumbaloom has right, it's their hobby.
So, let's fill in the points.

1) You got school and work todo and subbing is your hobby.
You have totally right and I, urmm WE respect you that you're also working in a free fansub providing us free subbed anime, thank you guys very much!
Still mind we don't know what happens there. There is a big curtain placed on the stage and we cannot see if it's closed. I don't mind waiting, but sometimes a sign of live is very appreciated. Waiting while a project is dead isn't as funny as it sounds. You don't need to give us any deadlines, I know it is irritating such a thing, but just say you are alive.

On the other side, I ever asked you guys to place a paypal donate on your site. I will donate and I think a lot of other people too.
So why not generate a paypal button? It doesn't cost you anything and every little you get, is something you have.

2) I'm working on it. Spended €400+ for a study. Still learning and I also got work and school todo. (Man, really no logic over here, translaters I admire you!)

3) I really want to help to be a QC'er, subber, karaoke or anything. But anytime and everywhere I ask about how, each fansub laughs at you and no one seems willing to help me.

If someone wants to teach me, subbing karaoke or being a QC'er (order of favorite) please, say it! Motive, the payment of 400  euro I made is caused by wanting to be a translater ... But I never worked in a fansub before. So if anyone wants to help me, please PM me and I will be very happy to learn and join, else never say no one wanted to help you.

4) Yeah you right. I like this fansub because of the quality movies.
Go on as you are working now, it goes great.
Live-Evil Ruleszzz...

*sigh*  I knew it didn't sound right.  No, I'm not misguided, yes I'm aware they have lives and such.  I'm also aware that I just can barely stand waiting the week one must wait between episodes.  Having to wait a minimum of one month between each episode is just going to kill me, and, as such, I've abandoned this series for one I can't watch (at least, not for a couple of years anyway, if I still remember by then.)  It's just too much for me to wait that long as it gets more and more dramatic and you start to get more and more into it.  The fact is, you think you're doing a service for us, but, for some of us it's crueler to dangle the carrot and snatch it away just to dangle even further out.  I'm sorry, that's just the way it feels.  And, yes, I'm aware not everyone feels this way.  Heck, I could be the only one out there, though I doubt it.  At any rate, I haven't even watch episode four after the way it killed me so long waiting for it because I finally forgot the show, and knowing that even if five comes out this very minute I have to wait another month or two to see six, I just can't bear to do that to myself.

And if I could reasonably help and see it come out faster than 1+ months between episodes I would, but, the fact of the matter is that I don't know but approximately six or seven words of Japanese and timing is just too tedius for me to maintain concentration for more than an episode or two before I can't take it anymore no matter how much I want to see it come out sooner.

Daisuki na kimi ni hayaku ai ni yukou
I’m going to see you right now[/i], my beloved.

Is it?

Also I've seen changes in the English Lyrics in the ending from Ep1 to like 4, one its grasp for air the next its gasping for air and other stuff, should really find lyric that works and stay with it, y'know?

What you have to do is make sure you aren't running too many programs, and don't be downloading like 3 or more other episodes of whatever while you're watching it... It happens to me every now and then, and it's just your memory getting used up too fast, I think... Once I'm sure I have everything else closed, or have at the most two other programs going, and that's at the most, then I watch my anime... ^-^;;; That's at least what I do...

Hi there everyone, another Snow Queen-viewer here. I really enjoy the show, thanks for subbing it L-E!

I've got a remark on the subtitles. I often find it difficult to read them, due to a lack of contrast and the used font, which seems harder to read than a sans-serif font. When sitting in front of my computermonitor the contrast is not really a problem but I always watch it on my television, sitting farther away from the screen than when I'm at the computer, and then a lot of times the subtitles are really hard to distuingish.

I've included a screenshot. "Have" is easily read, but the rest really takes a lot more effort.

I wonder if I'm the only one that has this problem. It would be great if the subtitles would be yellow, and a sans-serif font would help too. I've never had trouble reading subtitles on other anime.

Thanks for your time,

Chikatetsu.

First of all Live-eviL's fansubs are designed for playback on the PC. Whilst there are ways and means of converting/playing back subs on the TV we neither support or specifically design the subs for TV playback.

Whilst I could try increasing the outline(border) of the font when I typeset the next ep the styling for the show is already established and as such I won't be making major changes to the choices of dialogue fonts / colours 6 episodes in to the show.

Thirdly some people actually disagree with you and have told us not to change the font.

I always watch it on my television
Chikatetsu.

How are you converting it for viewing on your television?  TV/Out Port, DVD, MPEG2 Conversion, AVI compatible dvd player, Etc?

I usually throw my fan subs to dvd and watch them on the tv as well because although I have a large monitor to watch them on at home I don't when I am traveling with my laptop.  I have found that by using the video out port on the laptop I get good results on any tv but then I have to use the laptop.  I have used several programs for putting the fansubs on dvd's and some of them I did notice the contrast issue.  I normally use WinDVD Creator now for that stuff and it does a pretty good job and I haven't had any problems with contrast or not being able to read the sub's with that program like I have with some others.

That's okay, normally everything I view on my TV-screen (from computer via s-video out, dragon300zx) just looks okay, as if I were playing a DVD. It's only the subs of Snow Queen that I've been having trouble with.

Yeah, I understand that. Anyway, thanks for your reply, I'll go get ep 6 now!

O, and I'll try adjusting my TV's settings if I experience troubles reading the subs again.

I just had to register to the forum to say a big thank you to everyone involved in bringing "The Snow Queen" to us.  It's one of my favourite fairy tales and a few weeks ago while on wikipedia it randomly came up and I found out to my glee that it had been turned into an anime.  My glee turned to joy when I discovered your group was subtitling it and that I hadn't missed it on bittorent.
It is such a beautiful story and my only complaint is the time it's going to take your crew to get all 39 eps out to us.:p

Please keep up the fabulous work!!

I just got to watch 5 and 6.  I'm a sucker for H.C. Anderson fairy tales anyway, but they really have done a beautiful job so far with this animation. Its such a treat. With the overall tone and character development, as well as the designs, this will probably become one of my favorite "journey" stories. It reminds me so much of the shows I watched as a child.  Slated at 39 episodes too, it'll be the perfect length to really get some good episodes and arcs in.

As always, thanks for picking this project up L-E!  You always do top notch work.

The best of this anime is that there happens so much in such a little time. I really have the idea I have saw 10, 11 eps, but that's not possible since I'm dependended of Live-Evil. And alway's if you are depended, I don't care how long it takes, got other anime as well, as it only completes ever.

(The reason it's 8 and 10 is those were raws that were on my hard drive already before anybody asks why not eps 7 and 8 etc)

Till laired shows up I'm gonna use these as Japanese translation practice so theres at lease SOME skanky tl in there for a more experienced TL to fix XD;.

Quick Update -

I got Snow Queen Vols 2 and 3 on Saturday from YesAsia.

I've ripped and made timing raws for eps 7 - 10.

Eps 7,8 and 10 are timed with some ganky tl inserted by me but my Japanese isnt good enough to do full scripts by a long way yet :'(

We have some translators interested apparently but I've not seen anything concrete so far in terms of actual scripts.

Eps 7 - 10 are now timed with some skanky tl inserted by yours truly. I just need someone who is more l33t than me to fill the gaps in.

Thanks gumbaloom for the update.  I just recently rewatched the first 6 eps and I am eager for more.  It's just such a sweet smiley anime that really touches my heart.  I hope you can find translators and I'm glad the project hasn't been shelved and that you're doing your best with what you have to bring it to us.
Thanks again.

I want to finish is series, I wish the Japanese DVD had English subs, do they? No idea I looked on a few sites that has it listed and in subtitle: N/A I think, any idea people? Though could I burn the Ep to a DVD R if wanted?

We've got some of the R2 DVDs and once we've got till ep 15 out, Gumbaloom will be buying more.  Our problem is not a source for the raws, it's just that we currently don't have any dedicated translator on the job.

well with the top 2 fan choices cancelled does this mean those translators could be free to dedicate their time to snow queen? (Now the #1 choice)  crossing fingers and meaning it in the nicest possible way.

Uhh the translator for Nana and Tsubasa was Tofu and well for whatever reason he has issues and isn't actively contributing to fansubbing at the minute. So your assumption fails in this respect.

Yeah, our potential new t/l seems to be very experienced in Japanese.  I'll give it a t/l check soon to see if we're having a new staffer.  Then if I see things are good, well, then we're getting more Snow Queen soon!!!

Hopes are up!  ;)

Well, I t/l checked 7 and 8 and Spy is almost finished editing them.  Then gimp is having a head start on the typesetting, so SQ 7 and 8 might actually hit qc soon.  Now if Tofu can manage to find the time to t/l check 9 then we're going smooth.

And Tsubasa, I join you in your hope that Tofu will promptly find the time to t/l check episode 9 because I can't wait to see the rest! ;)

That would be great news, after all Live-Evil cancelled a lot good series these year. (I did not say it's anyone fault!). Just a little question, hopefull people will not take it as an insult. Would 'The Snow Queen' receive more attention now so many projects are cancelled? Or did those translators and all left the party? (Again, doesn't meant to harm anyone)

I will try and get 8 edited soon. (it's at about 30%)

I don't always have the time to work on more than 1ep a week at the moment.  Hopefully 7 will be ready to go soon.

Uhhh ~_~
L-E will always be slow, no matter how many projects get cancelled.  ::), since we fansub for fun, not as a round-the-clock set tasks. Everyone did blame slow release on Tsubasa and Nana, but as you can see, even without them, we're still slow.>_>  The Matsumoto division does releases on a regular basis, but the rest of the group... Oh well, when ppl find the time, they do try hard to get stuff done, trust me.  Now, if it wasn't for the Tofu factor, Tsubasa and Nana would have still been with us.  I don't know about any future revival plans.  Then Yawara...we were just about to release 58 when the license was announced, so 58 was an 'internal release', as tly puts it.  Then Gallery Fake, well, read the relevant thread and you'd understand that the problem isn't just simply 'we don't have a translator' but more along the lines of 'we don't have a translator l33t enough to take GF'.  Anyways, hopefully, we're getting SQ ep. 7 out soon.

Yup! And as I told, not meant to harm you guys. I'm a webmaster and I left out my website a while ago in dust. So you'll never hear me saying fansubbers should hurry up. In fact, I'm one of few who have realised we are depended on you loyal fansub groups. There is no way an anime will ever released at the Netherlands television, way to impopular here. Since people here still thinks anime=cartoony like The little mermaid ... At second how can I complain on something that's free. The only thing I do is wait till the whole work is done, download and comment.

Fansubbers, L_E you too, anyone who do something for free, good job.

Calling all anime fans!!!!

Live-eviL currently has a major shortage of dedicated QCers. :'(
This does not bode well for quick and efficient releases of YOUR FAVORITE ONGOING L-E SERIES!!! :o
Yes, you heard me right! If you would like to help speed the fansubbing process along for your favorite ongoing LE series, or in some cases simply get it moving through QC again, please check out the "Come QC for Live-Evil" thread in the "Live-eviL Recruitment Center" Forum. Read what various staff members have to say about the job, and if you think you might be able to help out send me a PM ASAP! Thank you in advance to those who are willing to give it a try!

Weeeh, I'm so happy to find this release today. To show me my thanks I use torrentflux on my server and uploading till a ratio of 2000% with speeds of 240KB/s each torrent (so also H264) :D.

Good luck pickin' up the project. (Yes I know I should have started a long time ago being a real webmaster, still I start at ~december, I found some work 'finally  :-\' and I should show my boss. You right you chose me.)

Edit: Okay, I reached that ratio just too fast. I believe I reset the ratio and seed till I get 6000% that shoukd take some time, happy leeching you guys.

I watched episode 1 of this series AGES ago, and i liked it alot so i searched it up on the net and found out that it was 39 episodes long. I thought it was a bit too long, but since i liked it i was gonna stick with it. But then i saw that this anime came out quite a while back in 2005, and only like 4 episodes had been subbed so far T_T so i thought the project had been dropped and all hope of watching this anime was lost.  All the way until now, i have still thought about this anime, and havent deleted the 1st episode in my anime folder, it kept coming in my mind. And so i searched it up again and still it had only got up to episode 7, and there wasnt many uploaders. But now i have gone onto this website to find out once and for all and it turns out that it has been subbed up to episode 10 so far, and with the positive comments about this anime on here, i have decided to watch this once again. I am really gratefull that The snow queen hasnt been dropped, but at this rate it may not be until like 3 years or so till its finished. So then that also makes me think why bother. But now i have just watched episode one again, and have finnaly decided i am definetly going to watch this anime, for sheizi! And so today i am downloading episode 2 and above and am waiting eagerly to watch them, and then wait once again for the next episode to come. No matter how long it may take, at least its getting subbed  ;)
Lol seems like i got real into writing this  :o hehe. Please continue with what you can do!

I do use CCCP actually, and even trying MPC, VLC, and Zoom has never gotten most h264 encodes to play right for me.  I'm assuming there's probably a codec hidden away somewhere on my system messing things up, but since everything else works fine I'd rather not mess around with it too much.  Trying to get the Space Symphony Maetal files to play really caused some issues for my computer with uninstalling, installing, tweaking, etc. and it never did work.  Not a road I'm anxious to travel again if possible.  ^^

Been there, done that, and completely sympathize with you. My foray into codec and media player tweaking led to a complete reinstall. :'( But as long as you can watch it in one form who cares about h264 anyways right!  :D

Hello everyone :)

I was searching intensely for this anime and I'm really glad that I found it here. I saw it when I was really small and it had a great impression on me. No doubt it's a very heart touching story. The extra details added to Andersen's fairy tale (the mirror fragments etc.) are actually giving it an even more elusive and mystical tone. I can't wait to watch it again. It's one of the best anime for me.

Thank you for providing us episodes from this wonderful anime. Your work and dedication are highly appreciated :) Good job!

don't you mean Heidi or something?

I suspect that Anja is referring to the 1957 Russian animated adaptation of the story, which I also loved as a small child. (There was an American animated adaptation in 1995 that was supposedly really awful, too.) The Russian film has recently been re-released on DVD (albeit with a different dub), so it shouldn't be that hard to obtain.

A friend and I are just starting to download this promising series; I wonder if it would be too much to ask if any of you fine fans might help reseed episode 6 and the HQ episode 7?

what do you mean "very small"?? the show is from 2005/2006

don't you mean Heidi or something?

LOL. I almost posted something sarcastic too and then I read the post about the Russian animation.

Ooops... You guys are right.  ;D When I posted it was before I downloaded the first episodes... After watching them I realised it's indeed, a different show, though the storyline is obviously very similar. I actually thought at first it was the same anime. Guess I need to pay more attention lol

I'm seeding episode 6 now, IMHD

regarding Russian fairytales adaptations to anime, there's also another good title of 1980 called "Mori wa Ikiteiru" or "The Twelve Months". The Russian animated  version is shorter and a little different.

And the classic 70's title "Swan Lake"

Spelling the author's name wrong then trying to justify it by claiming primacy for the Anglicized spelling?

Hmm...

Let me guess... American, perchance?

Ah, those zany colonials. I love how American can make the British seem al sophisticated and European by comparison.  ;)

Good day all!

I've been online for a while, and I've been downloading (by way of Azureus) the 7-10 block of Snow Queen. There is 6 other peers, but no seeds.

We all have 92.8% of the file and if someone could seed, for a very short time obvously, I'm sure we would all appreciate it.

Thanks ever so much - Miki

I too just joined this forum to express my sincere appreciation for L-E subbing this series.  It's so rare to find anything (anime or otherwise) that is this pure and honest... something that you can actually watch with the entire family.  Please, please, please continue this to the end of the series.  Once it's done, I intend to make it an annual family event leading up to the Holidays.

Oh well, good to hear.  It's a good series, it's just hard to keep track of it as there seems to be obstacles to regular release of episodes.

As for Yawara, possible there was a time were it wasn't possible for you guys to release much for a while, but that's a long time ago.

Looking forward to seeing the end of shion, it has been at least a month since the last release for that one.  And well, keep up the good work on The Daughter of Twenty Faces,  my current favorite.

Thanks for the Series it it is quite awesome of what I have watched so far. I love it.

I do have one request it you can help me that would be great!

I am having trouble bit torrenting episodes 11 and 12 I have been downloading it for a week and am 80% with on and still around 50% with the other. could a couple of peers get on for an hour or so, so I might get it sooner that would be great.

I know these are past episodes but I just discovered it and am enjoying it.

Thanks for what ever you can do.

Also, pretty much everything can be found immediately on our irc xdcc bots. It will definitely be faster than bit torrent.

Well, it's taken me a while ( keeping up with Daughter of Twenty Faces and getting distracted by Shion no Ou hasn't helped, though I love both of those - thanks for subbing all of these!) but I am up through episode ten of The Snow Queen and hope to finish it soon! I've been enjoying it immensely. One observation: the minstrel as narrator works well enough, and he looks cool enough, but for some reason I find his songs quite annoying. Is it just me? Is it because his songs thus far were in angst ridden episodes #3 & #4?
Title: Re: The Snow Queen
Post by: sakuraember on August 14, 2008, 01:06:31 am
I am finally up to where you guys have subbed for The Snow Queen. Took me long enough, I know. Ragi, even his singing, wasn't so annoying the last few episodes, so maybe it was just everything going on with Kay that made me dislike it back in the beginning. Thank you again for subbing this series! Take the time you need with subbing. Patience is a virtue I need more practice on anyway^^; But it looks like the next episode gives us Ragi's background, and I will say I am excited to find out more about this.

Well, the captain was so nice at the beginning, it was a twist to see another, darker side to him. And next time, the little match girl! (snif!) I love how we have the main fairy tale of the Snow Queen, but others are woven in as well. Take the time you guys need, but know that at least I am looking forward to the next release:)

Thanks for releasing episode 16! Too bad Ragi's singing doesn't improve^^;

I hate Ragi's songs.  I don't even think they should be called "songs"... they're more spoken word pieces set to 1-chord music.  1-chord!  Even hair metal bands do better than that!

I think Ragi himself is okay.  The empathetic monkey is a different story.

Busy I understand. I wonder why the post about needing translators included The Snow Queen then.

I was so busy I wasn't even on IRC for 5 or 6 weeks.  And the project leader misinterpreted "I like Conan better than Snow Queen" as "I hate Snow Queen and will never work on it again".  ::)

That said, I don't own it, and if another translator is found I'll move aside or we'll trade off or something will happen that will mean more Snow Queen faster.  I am working on 21 right now, though.

Ahh.

Episode 11 - The Red Shoes...

It was not the shoes themselves that were cursed,, but Karen herself.

For she forsake everything else (and everyone) to get them.

A harsh lesson in the 6th deadly sin "envy" .

One of the more brutal SQ episodes!

Glad at least one person is looking forward to watching the latest episode.  Maybe we can start using the twitter page for re-seed requests once it is running.
