Well, I think most girls are only interested in yaoi when it's two hot guys.  Plus, I've always found it amusing when guys mock girls for being interested in yaoi while the guys themselves drool over yuri.  It's the same thing, just with opposite genders.

hehe, yeah. Well it can go the other way too!

It's late at night, my stomache aces.
Sting sings of brand new days, but all I see is everlasting pain.
The shivers won't stop, I cold-sweat and with closed eyes wish for death as revelation.
It's been too long, my mind ain't clear and episodes pass before my eyes.
I await it. I crave it. I want it.

I need my Death Note fix...

I voted Light.

He is much more of a character, and one can identify with him. A high school student etc.
Who has enough money and wits and contacts to sit and solve exiting murder cases for free?!

If only L would show his weakspots that would make him much more atractive :D

oooooookaaaaayyyyyy..... :o   (And the fact that girls have intrest in yaoi is a fact, must again be something to do with sexual referances with beautifull androgyn japanese guys)

As to series similar to Death Note, there realy is no one like it. But we can't take away "Monster" from the equation. It is also mystery, crime, drama. Allthough I am not sure if I ever saw the end, got lost somewhere in ep 70 or something. It trule had me captured. It's the same production company as with DN I understand? The same nice drawings and especialy the urban scenes (lots european cities). So check it out.

I personally appreciate the companies bringing anime here to the US.  I would much rather watch anime on my TV than on my computer monitor, not only for comfort reasons but also for the better visual quality.  R2 DVDs are out for me because my DVD player can't play them (which can be worked around) and because I don't understand Japanese.

Keep in mind, too, that a number of Japanese companies produce anime with the financial aid of American companies.  So if the American companies go bankrupt, that's also hurting the original producers of the anime we love so much.

Visual quality is by no means a issue. I watch all my anime on TV, most Pc's have a S-video output, invest 10$ in cables and enjoy!

I also totaly agree that it is not our mission to feed the corporations. I am also truly against dubbing, in most cases. What I do feel is our obligation though is to support the artists (or drawing slaves), and the only way to do that is through buying the DVD's. This is a problem that anti-corporate ideas face in all industries. I have much more to say, both on what the problem is and how to solve it. But this should really be discussed in a different thread, and not in the DN specific thread.

My girlfriend have this fasination for L aswell. Allthough i can see it, i can't apreciate it that much. It might be becouse I haven't got the sexual\cutie\japanese\androgyn\etc. factor playing in, I find that in true character Light is much more intresting, but I think well see this change some during the series.
I hope L gets his psycho out  :D

Great information!

I have alot of after effects/premiere and notepad experience, but never heard of athe other programs. I think I will check some of them out. It's nice to see exactly how much work it takes to do a sub.  :)

Anybody have a link, or the patience to explain what exactly the various steps of the fansub process are.

These steps are mentioned in the FAQ:
Translation -> Timing -> Editing -> Typesetting -> QC encode -> QC -> QC implement -> Final Encode

What kind of programs and prcesses do a episode go through before it goes to distro?

(I truly hope I left anything that could trigger a "who has the biggest accesories" debate)  :P

I think that the debate to wether the Death Note can be used for good is quite silly.
Killing is never part of "good". Its maybe part of "better", but not "good".

They should'nt have given us so many characterflaws in Lights character so early in the series, he is kinda damned to failiure from the begining.

I think I would start off as a hitman.

"Just put 300.000USD in my bank deposit box. Suply name and a picture of the face of the target. Also any details regarding the suroundings of the death. I will then execute this order within a week."

And then just wait for the money to roll inn =)

Well, if anyone besides him knows that he was the one sent to tail Light, since he got killed despite of not being a bad guy, it is certainly likely to raise suspicions.

You may very well be right, I'm just kinda rooting for light and hope he won't screw up too soon. Let him sail on the wind of godlike powers  8)

Hi,

I just had to sign on to the forum to give you my humble thanks, the subbing and image quality of Death Note is superb!

And as to the case of Light killing Ray, I don't think that Light had this second motive that you presented Tsubasa. He might have thought so, but I think he was to ocupied with frustration over the intrusion that Ray proved to be.
I do agree that killing Ray is stupid, it will only draw atention to him. Allthough there is still a posibility that Light might rescue himself from tradgedy. Like killing ray in a manner that leaves no clue. Making him walk past a bank while there is a robbery, and as the obedient cop he is he acts to rescue the litle hostage girl and gets shot by the robber. That way there would be no clue as to wheter it was light who did it or not.

Anyway, I am simply shaking with anticipation for episode 5 ;D
