Hmmm... I dont really get it. Shocking? Offensive? Watched that release when it came out, and I dare to say nobody would care much or even notice if this version would run on TV, maybe except for the jokes referrimg directly to AIDS, I understand if that is controversial. But if FlamencoRenee thinks your parody is offensive, I hope she *never* has to watch an entire evening of european prime time programming . Beeping/blurring out things or avoiding four letter words is generally unknown here, as for comedy, "normal" people, alternative lifestyles and minorities of every kind get mocked at equaly, mostly by themselves . And what about being gay or whatever? This aint the 70s anymore and nobody cares for your personal lifestyle today. Even the pope and Mr.Bush hugged the mayor of our capital city Berlin... 

I think this is more about fandom (or when its to much worship). May I say "Remember, this is fictional work"? And thats said by me, being a dorama/anime fan for about 20 years now, and who started that "career" with a lost youth being a trekkie...

You guys realise in most cases you can get around the VAT by having the sender label the package "GIFT" and putting something like "Happy Birthday!" on it right?  The pig sends a lot of stuff abroad and he's never had a problem this way.

And under no circumstances!! make your parcel look like a commercial one, keep it small, so in most cases the european customs dont bother about it and, unless one is very unlucky , one doesnt have to pay the additional import tax (which is 7% in germany on books and media on top of VAT). Even the folks at rightstuf.com know this issue...! .

This is great! I think we just did a better job capturing the nuts and bolts of this issue than I have seen in any video forum!

Thanks, but this solution is pretty basic and known to everyone who doesnt use vector prediction/compensating frame rate conversion (with image rebuilding), as latest professional sophisticated (read: expensive) studio hardware does.

There are avisynth libs even trying these advanced vector prediction methods, but early staged, currently working with 1-2 frames per second rendering on a 3+GHz machine, and suffering from heavy image distortions when used on animated sources with duped frames. The prof studio hardware converters naturally come as black boxes, heavily secured against backward engineering. The algorythms are well protected company secrets...

And remember, the simple method works only for us "lucky" 25fps PAL people due to the 1fps difference 24>25fps, you cannot use that for NTSC 30fps reconversion unless theMIXED fps source is MOSTLY 30fps, which hardly never occurs... This is why 24/25->30fps conversion has to use such ugly solutions as interlaced telecine or blurry frame blending on progressive sources, at least until now.

The reason why Home Cinema dedicated LCD/Plasma Flat TVs offer a true 24fps mode is to completely avoid that 30fps NTSC legacy and its difficult and quality lowering FILM workarounds... in PAL countries FILM conversion is easily done just with the mentioned slight speedup, and noone would notice the difference between 24/25fps.

Here in cologne/germany its fibre-to-the-home with flat, 100MBit down  / 10Mbit up, but at a roaring monthly cost of 59 Euros (about 38 USD).

Slowest speed available (and I think we will at least temporarely change to that because we hardly never use the 100/10) is 6500k/650k flat for 17 Euros (about 10 USD).

Because were often away for business for days, speed is not that important for anime/dorama... theres time enough for all the torrents to finish until were back home... and I hate to pay for idle time...

Hmm... The interesting part there is the "VFR aware filter".

Meant is simply the mkv video filter for DirectShow which gives
adaptive FR information to DirectShowSource()

Heres the frame rate conversion part of the avisynth script I usually use for vfr mkv->DVD PAL reconversion if source is mostly 24fps...

That depends on where you live and which TV system is used there.

We live in germany, europe uses PAL TV/DVD at 25fps.

So theres a simple solution for us to get a smooth 25fps PAL DVD out of VFR (30 NTSC TV / 24fps Film mixed) mkvs.

First, we *convert* the VFR file mathematicaly to 120 fps (which is the lowest common multiple of 30 and 24 fps) by inserting frames with a VFR aware filter to get a fixed frame rate. In the next step, downconvert that now fixed rate 120fps again to 24fps with a motion (picture change for anime) aware filter. Speed up the 24fps to 25fps (without adding frames) and you get a fixed PAL framerate with smooth movie and almost smooth former 30fps parts. Audio must be stretched accordingly.

The speedup 24->25fps is hardly recognized and is the usual way films get prepared for television in PAL countries - no blending, nor artefacts.

If you need that as an avisynth script, just ask.

If you live in a NTSC country and want fixed 30fps output, that simple method wont work, you have to use telecine conversion.

No, I dont sell fansubs on ebay , but we have a local fansub dorama/anime community of *all* ages, and not everyone uses a computer to watch.

I'm from Germany and VAT is at 19%.

Go for it! The low dollar as it is makes things from US and other dollar based imports all time cheap for us here - so that makes up for the VAT easily

Over the years we (living in germany) purchased hundreds of LDs, DVDs and other stuff from Japan and the US (my collection started years ago with Animeigos Urusei*Yatsura LDs), never encountered any problems... even amazon.co.jp delivers promptly anything out-of-area, when purchasing from smaller shops there for two or three times we had to pick up the parcels at the local german customs office because they couldnt read the japanese item lists and they needed a translation (doh). Jap and Euro share DVD Region 2.

Now little-sister of my very personal anime voice-over translation service has finished abroad studying and lives in kobe again, which makes import even simpler and cheaper...

We are actually subtitling this show and in need of someone to do translation checking for it. I think I see where this is heading

L-E releasing DP-TV?? Well I missed that one completely

The first six episodes can be found on the net, but the group who released them, Exiled-Destiny, stated they never retranslated it and only reused fansubs from old vhs tape versions, and the project stalled after ep.6 month ago ... and now that group closed anyway...

Note that this group semiclosed, but they still seem to (very slowly) continue to release the DP-TV series, now at ep#08. They still just encode the RAWs and add the old VHS fansubs as .srt subs.

I enjoyed the entire DP-TV (DVD) series very much, voiced-over by my personal translating system ; the old existing fansubs mentioned above are acceptable, but very basic and far from being accurate at times.

So its very nice we'll see this truly classic series properly done, l-e style.

Until then, if youre into Classic KOR, DP, BC ... enjoy this (63MB, rightclick&save)

Yes, in a bavarian context "bruennele" refers to an "[small] [old] well" where water for the village (or just the nearby cottages) is fetched. Because of this, its a place where the people inevitably meet, for a chat or, as in this case, just take a rest from days work and enjoy a glass of wine or two at the nearby located inn.

Well, as we're watching reruns of the CHAKUSHIN ARI series as this weeks scary bedtime story, this "haunted" ep fittet in very neatly . By the way, isnt Kobayakawa the one supposed to be scared of ghosts? Must be character development...
