It is still alive.  I'm just failing to translate it in a timely fashion.

Busy I understand. I wonder why the post about needing translators included The Snow Queen then.

I was so busy I wasn't even on IRC for 5 or 6 weeks.  And the project leader misinterpreted "I like Conan better than Snow Queen" as "I hate Snow Queen and will never work on it again".  ::)

That said, I don't own it, and if another translator is found I'll move aside or we'll trade off or something will happen that will mean more Snow Queen faster.  I am working on 21 right now, though.

Keep up the good work :D

Glad you like it.  There should be more in the relatively near future (Live-eviL time).

If you take that approach to life, there may come a day when you need major surgery: will you perform it yourself or leave it to someone who knows what they're doing? I thought so.

Lighten up... Anime is entertainment.  It is not in any way life-or-death, regardless of how much you like it.

And I can tell you (because I'm doing it) that learning Japanese is a lot easier than learning to be a doctor.  And the price of failure is much less.

As for my approach to life... I do what I'm able and get help when I need it.  I'm not saying you guys don't need help, but I am saying that you won't find it here.  I'm also saying that problems like this are within your power to fix yourself.

Let's get some facts: The Raws of the Galaxy Express 999 episodes are out there. R2 DVDs are also exists for those who wish to buy them. So, what we basic need are the english subtitles.

Why?  If you're going to sub to a particular language, start with the Japanese.  Oh, yes, I know what the response to this will be... "Nobody here speaks Japanese, but everyone knows English."

We have the same problem here.  Pre-licensing, it was solved by fansubbing.  If you guys all love GE999 as much as you say you do, why not sub it yourselves?  It's a lot more work than whining about it here, but the end result will be better.   :)

but I was hoping that they at least announce that they dropped it

WHAT?  You want the series to be dropped?  You crazy person.

It's neither dropped nor finished.  There are just a lot of the staff who let real life get in the way of their fansubbing.  ;D

I have two that I use (work and personal), but since I run my own mailserver the actual number of addresses that will reach me is much higher than that.  And I personalize addresses that I use to register at websites (which is how I know Hertz sold my address to porn spammers), so there's another big bunch (85, not including the ones I don't have to put in my aliases databases) right there.

So "lots".

I'm so glad to know Tofu's Rabiit Name now.  And it's so cute!

I'll be calling him "Bun Bun" in IRC for a while now...  ;D

Why is this series stalled?

Tofu's a slacker.

But bitching at him on the forums won't help, and Mamo-chan and bastard-sama are on the job on IRC, so...
I guess all you can do is wait (or learn some of the Japaneses  >:( )

Oh, who might that be? Could it perhaps be suzaku_nomiko(aka Suz):o

Could be.  But due to some local club politics, everyone (except me) who'd been an officer prior to around 2001 was either totally not involved anymore or was sort of in extreme stealth mode.  So until after I agreed to start working for LE, I just thought she was some random person who happened to be on our club mailing list...

Ah, I see. Did you just kind of get burnt out on fansubbing and anime for that time period?

So, you've been fansubbing for a total of like 2 or 3 years, roughly(give or take some months or so)?

Nah, in 1996 I met the woman I'd end up marrying, and she wasn't into it at all.  She came to our anime club a few times to wait for me to finish my stuff up, and found the fans very offputting.  So I just kind of fell out of it.  It's not like she made me stop; I just started having other things to do.  So no burnout, except on that one show.  She's been otakunized now, so everything's cool.   ;D

As for the length of time, that's probably about right.  Maybe a little more than that -- I forgot that I also did some script cleanups and LD remasters for the Patlabor movies and Mononoke Hime in 1996-1997.  So I guess I was still doing it, just not talking to anyone else about it.  Those were mostly for personal use anyway... there was no distribution to anyone I didn't actually know.

I bet you've seen the many evolutions of fansubbing.

Nope... I missed them all.  Seriously -- the only one I was around for was the switch from TurboTitler to JACOsub, and that was kind of a non-event because other than having a better font it had basically no effect on the output.  I didn't watch any anime at all between 1996-1999, and was totally out of the fansub scene (not even watching) from until 2002 sometime. So I missed web-based tape distribution as well as the analog to digital shift.

Anyway, does the Xvid to H.264 transition count?  ;D  I don't think so... everyone's still going through that.
