Eps 7-8 should be out "relatively" soon, I promise you.

BTW, I always try to encourage fans to be more vocal. It's hard for us to judge what shows people really wanna see and which ones they can live without. For example, asides for maybe one person, no one has complained about the death of the Persia project so I guess we can safely assume that no one cares if we continue subbing it or not :D

As for 3000 Leagues, I'd like to hear from other fans who are interested in seeing more of it... It'd make me feel better about taking time off to work on it again ^^;

I want to thank you for all your hard work in bringing us 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother.  I'm a great fan of Miyazaki and Takahata's work, and any opportunity to see these classic shows can never be passed up.

I would love to see the rest of the Marco series subtitled and made available.  It is an excellent program that should be seen by everyone, and I'm sure the many Ghibli fans around the world will appreciate your work.

I'll be passing the word around about your Marco fansubs, and I'd like to write about it for my website once I've seen a few more episodes (I write film reviews, including Ghibli).  Anything I can do to spread the word and share the love.

Anyway, great work, keep it up.  I'd help with translating if my Japanese was better, but I'm sure there are plenty of people to draw upon.

Hello,
My name is Alina, I'm from Israel.

I just wanted to say that I really like your sub works!

"3000 leagues in search of mother" is one of my most beloved series - I have watched it (with a Hebrew dub though) many times when I was younger.

I were really glad that I could find this Anime with the original Japanese dub.
So thank you so much for your great work, and please don't stop translating this wonderful Anime!

I'm waiting foard to the next episodes! ^_^

Of all the anime being subbed anywhere, this classic deserves your time. I'm so grateful that Live-Evil is giving me the opportunity to show my kids shows with "soul" instead of the shallow and sterile rubbish that are around these days. I hope to see more from the "World Masterpiece Theatre" series. Please keep up the good work!

That's good to hear. Most groups seem to want the opposite.

Anyway, I would really like to see the rest of this show, as well as other World Masterpiece Theatre series.

And (this is a little off topic), more Galaxy Express and Akazukin Cha Cha would be nice.

I just wanted to add my voice to those already here. I'm also an Israeli and wanted to say that 3000 Leagues is a truly great series that has had a deep impact and lasting impact on this country. The national phone company launched a campaign that used Marco as a main character "phoning" his mother using one of their calling cards. The submarine fleet uses the 3000 Leagues theme song as their anthem. An Israeli band made a superb techno remix of the theme song that still plays in many nightclubs (it's called Heart of Marco). Finally, virtually every youngster, teenager or student knows of this series and can sing the theme by heart; but almost no one can give more than a hazy idea of the plot given how depressing this series is/was.

3000 Leagues was still screened here until very recently, and for all I know may be screened still. Post by: Zora on April 29, 2005, 04:24:41 am
it has now been ten months since the last episode.  live evil if you have no intention of ever subbing this again, at least release the raws.  please, i am begging you.  or else give it to another fan subber.  this is ridiculous, you guys can spend all your time doing other series but you can forget about others  that fans have been asking for for months .   you have completed whole series before doing this one.   give us a straight answer rather than "we'll release it eventually".

o.O
did you see somewhere on the forum or the main www that we drop it ?
also your post means that we should only care about *your* interest (aka 3000 Leagues in search of Mother ) and  not care about others ...
Or maybe you forgot that we've got a life ...
Title: Re: 3000 leagues in search of mother
Post by: Zora on April 30, 2005, 03:42:17 am
i didn't say it was only my interest.  other people have been waiting too and we are tired.  so release the raws if you can't subtitle it.  and if you have lives then why are you subtitling other series?  are you trying to say that this series isn't worth your time?

all i want is an answer.  if condor hero or initial D or yuor other favorite live evil series wasn't seen with a new episode for a year would you be concerned? i rest my case.
Title: Re: 3000 leagues in search of mother
Post by: mikala on April 30, 2005, 02:12:37 pm
i'm not trying to say anything but 'wait' ...
the notion of 'life' is there to point that we can eventually decide to push one serie instead of another ( because for example we didn't release something since one year or more ... ) also you can take this like  ' the translator' is currently busy with his/her 'own' life  etc etc ...
Condor Hero was slow regarding releases ( & it 's one of my favourite serie ) , did i complain ? no , i just wait ..
i wasn't arguing like ' if you don't want to sub it anymore release the raw ...' not to notice that if we found raws , some else can find it too ...
Title: Re: 3000 leagues in search of mother
Post by: Zora on April 30, 2005, 05:24:14 pm
the raws are coming from vcd's from the nineties that are out of print.  why don't you see if you can find them on the internet?

all i am saying is just even a FEW episodes would have been nice.  i find it odd that live evil was pushing this series during the time when the first few episodes came out and then suddenly abandoned it.

all the raws that i have been able to find are in chinese.  i'd like to see you search for them.
Title: Re: 3000 leagues in search of mother
Post by: Tofusensei on April 30, 2005, 11:06:52 pm
We bought the official Japanese raws. They are laserdiscs.

Anyway, the reason this project has been slow is because the editor has been AWOL for a while. I have been trying to get him to resume work on it ><

I'll poke him again

Has anyone gotten good mp3s of the Op/Ed?  I'd love to have them.

I'm waiting most for GE999 and this one to get subbed. Both of these classics were released originally over 20 years ago and im not sure if they get ever distributed with english subs. Most newer stuff probably will, sooner or later.

Im very happy even with these few episodes though. Thanks for great work.

I registered just to post on this forum for this anime.

In response to the recent release of episode 7...

I just wanted to give a big thanks to all the parties involved.  I'll admit, when I initially started watching this series a few months ago, I was a bit hesitant.  I thought it was old and couldn't possibly have any universality, but something kept insisting within me to give it a shot.  I downloaded it and watched it, and with the first episode, I was already in love.

For a slight backstory to that, my mother and sister recently moved out of town and I've been missing them.  The three of us are really very close, and I tend to get lonely without them, since they've always been there and suddenly they aren't.  This anime caters to these emotions in a sense; not in that I'm having a pity party, but in that the emotions come through as very real.  Nothing is more heartbreaking than Marco chasing after his mother's liner setting sail.  I can remember how I felt as my mom drove off in the van when she moved, and I stood behind waving.

At any rate, I'm very anxious to see more of this anime.  Oh, and to answer the question of finding mp3s of the OP and ED, I have decent files of both.

Sorry if I wasted anyone's time with my little post.

I had randomly downloaded this anime, not knowing anything about it. All I knew was it had a interesting title.

When I first started to watch it, I was dissapointed, because it was soooo old, and the animation was also looking very old.

But...by the time the episode was over, I realized that it had so utterly kept my attention, and I was really anxious to watch the next episode to see what happens.

Then I read your guy's message at the end of it, and I became even more interested, and as you can see, I am posting about it, and encouraging you to continue subbing it. You believe it's a worthwhile diamond in the rough....So do I.

Thank you for subbing all the ones you have subbed thus far.

Why dont you just download it from bots at  irc.enterthegame.com #live-evil. Bots have nice bandwidth so it's really quick..takes some 15min/episode for me. (2Mbit here)

I love "3000 Leagues In Search Of Mother." Thank you  so much for all the hard work you've done (and are still doing).

Hey...does anyone know (or if anyone that's part of live-evil is reading this right now, because oubviously you would know :D) ...what song is that playing over the "live-evil" end credits, at the end of episode 1? It sounds so beautiful. I recognized some of the other songs from the other episodes ending credits...but I have never heard this song before. Does anyone know?

I have registered at this forum just to tell you guys at LE what an awesome job youre doing by subbing this series. No, its not just a series, its a wonderful tale that you just don't get to see nowadays.

I have just seen the first episode and I was blown away by it. So simple, yet so intricate and beautiful at the same time. Isao Takhata is now officially my favorite animation director of all time, even surpassing Miyazaki. The translations by LE are top notch, the font choice couldn't have been better and the video quality is awesome.

I wish anime fans of today can see this masterpiece, its really a beautiful beautiful story. I've heard so much about it, and now I'm finally able to see it and can't let go of it.

Keep it up LE, you're sitting on a goldmine here. And also if some of you could seed episodes 5-7 please. Thanks.

Would someone be kind enough to give all of us fans an update please. My children (6 and 8 years old) have been waiting patiently last few months for the next episode. Alright, alright, I've been dying to see it too!

Tofusensei would be the one to bug.

On another note, you get your kids to watch this? That's awesome! The only anime my parents ever got me to watch was purely accidental (like the Thunderbirds 2086 video we got out one time).

And anyone can tell me please what is this song in the beginning? Not in all episodes... I'm talking about the "notes and credits after episode" screen with the ship and the flying seagull....

Thank you!

HAHAHAHAHAHAH
LOLLERSKATES!
I'd suggest finding another anime to love and cherish...I'd personally get this haunting feeling about never feeling complete, if i choose to make this gem my personal favorite.
Seriously, I don't mean to be a cynical blue meanie, but the cold hard reality of the situation is that the odds of this getting out are zihl to next to nihil. There IS actually some movement, or at least stirrings of movement, on all of L-E's other projects.
HONESTLY, a devoted soul can learn japanese pretty well inside 3 years. That....would prolly be the faster route, plus you get a nice little profficientcy in an alternate language!!!!!

Okay, Quit crying. GOSH. Why are all fans a bunch of whining, crying...... ;D ;D

Anyway, As per Dr. Rin, If you find the people to hijack the series, I will do my best to equivocally support'such a commandering of it. Then there is the matter of WHO HAS THE RAWS, which I'm fairly sure it's tofu. In that case, Your issues may be more complex, but I do not see where with the proper coercion, SHOULD You actually find the people, that you would not be able to see it off of it's feet again.

Well, they are on DVD at yesasia.com.  Search for Marco Appenines  and all 13 vols will show up.

I am very tempted to ask another fansubber to look into this because there was only one new episode last year, and I know of other fansubbers that are able to churn out more in a year.  For pete's sake Gumbaloom worked on PGSM .

I'm not saying there should be an episode every week.  But is 2 a month really too much to ask for?

Take out your frustrations on Tofusensei. I'm not capable of translating myself yet and Tofusensei is in possesion of the typeset scripts which posses the styles / fonts I'd need to typeset the eps myself.

My hands are tied on this one unless Tofu stops failing it :/

I dunno about that last comment there. L-E actually HANDLES things, as opposed to MURDERING THEM.
If you want to put this in someone else's hands, be my guest.......but the result may be less than thrilling.
Or, you could go parading into the Shadowlands to get Tofu back, but chances are you'd end up as corrupted as him.
IMHO, It would be better to just find someone who cares about the series AND is a good TL, and you could get a movement started inside L-E to resume it. There's no Space Pirates, and No mysterious Blondes with tragic pasts....I could barely sit through the first episode without being bored half to death, So don't come to me for anything, but It would still be good, and I think we both know it, to ensure that you have the creative staff of L-E supporting whatever endeavor you wish to see done to perfection.
No Space Pirates....what were they thinking? No Giant Robots either? I mean WHAT do people see in this show? I completely don't get it..... ??? ???

Our taste in Anime is just different... It's normal to have a different taste in things.  ;)
I like it because it was one of my childhood's series (I watched it with hebrew dubbing), and now I'm REALLY glad I have the chance to watch it in Japanese.
And even if I saw it completely some 3 times in the past, it's still interest me. The drawings style... The story... Sometimes I prefer old Animes than modern.

And me too, don't uderstand why L-E even started to translate this Anime (and bought the RAWs!), if they stopped in the 7th episode...

Please! If you guys in L-E doesn't see any future to the translation of this great Anime in your team, please at least release the RAWs so other groups will traslate it!  :'(

I completely agree that the general rule is that the older an anime is, the better it is.

In response to your question, the reason it stopped was because of Tofu.

I think what masa is hinting at is that a big part of the reason many of the sub's that we like are stalled is because live-evil like any organization is currently expeirencing staffing problems.  One if their key staff members has become unreliable due to issues in his personal life that are taking time away from his L-E duties.  This is hurting everyone.  But there is a way to fix it.  Find some more quality crew members for L-E, I believe they need more translators, qc, editing, typesetting, and timing.  I'm sure if you could get some quality people to add to their staff L-E would be happy to restart the stalled subs and begin releasing them again.

Or see if there is another way you personally can help with something.  The more people that are helping the group, the more subs the group can produce.

The only person in possesion of 3000 Leagues laser discs ----> Tofu

The onlyperson in possesion of 3000 leagues raw scripts ----> Tofu

The only person in possesion of finalised 3000 leagues scripts which contain all the typesetting styles etc needed to copy on to future eps -----> Tofu

If you can tell me how I can get round the above then I'll be happy to listen

Hello all,

I am the 3rd Israeli posting in this thread, and as a matter of fact, I don't find it surprising for one bit! This series, dubbed "Halev" (the heart) here in Israel, is a true classic masterpeace. As tautau stated ('tautau the panda bear' was also a famous series here  :)), '3000 leagues in search of mother' had a profound impact on Israeli youth. I, personally, can't imagine my childhood without it! I have never - ever - shed more tears on ANY man made production as I've had on this one as a kid, and I don't think I ever will either; no other series had been able to touch one's heart as this one.  It is interesting to observe this phenomenon, as many Israelis - more or less - share my feelings for this show; the character of Marco seems to be an inseparable part of our culture even today.

It will be a great pleasure having the rest of the episodes available for download as well!

BTW 1: GUYS, please SEED torrents for episodes 1-6! (encouraged by Masakari...  ;D)

BTW 2: The episode in which Marco finally meets his mother will be aired tomorrow here in Israel on national television ("Channel 1" at 14:50), followed by the last episode detailing their return home - the day after tomorrow at the exact same time. Enjoy!

I still have all the styles and stuff, in fact, I'm still available to time/edit/trans check/typeset etc, but I don't have raws or scripts.  I've made some attempts to contact Tofu, but no response.  If anyone can get this project going, let me know.

Talk to Gumbaloom. He's far less scatterbrained/erratic than Tofu, and generally very organized.

Now that Tofusensei seems to be back (or at least posting in other threads), I wonder if he would mind giving us an update...

BTW, I know people aren't serious, but even so, "wussy" just isn't the word to describe this classic that, on the contrary, portrays utmost strength of character and resolve. I have come across few characters with more guts than young Marco, and that's why I'm so hopeful of being able to show my six-year old son the rest of the series.

Oh, man... I didn't see this post until now. Sorry about everything :X

Trom, I need to recapture ep 8, let's get working on the next episode. (I lost the original capture in one of my many HD deaths)...

It would be really good whether this project has a new release, the anime is so beautiful that deserves it! Is very uncommon to find something similar today, a such clockwork mechanism of technique and plot.. Old is better? This time definitively YES!
Let's cross our fingers for viewing soon the episode 8 (and more soon), and let's cheer the Live-Evil for not forgetting this anime!
Bye!

I seem to be fighting a losing battle with this one folks.

Nana and Tsubasa are more of a priority than anything else.

[Live-eviL] 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother - Ep 07     168.88MiB     0     0     549.08GiB     1121     1y12d00h15m     0/s

1 year 12 days since last release :/ (On the 25th May 2006)

*Sigh*

Somehow I think a Preston Guild or two will pass before we have a hope of seeing this series finished :c

This is an absolutely wonderful series, and I sincerely wish you would give it greater priority. Some may have a few more votes, but are they for shows that meet a definition of "timeless"?

Along with Romeo's Blue Skies, Marco should be seen by everyone.

Well he is getting what he deserves, that is no further episodes of 3000 Leagues. I think that's enough. If he comes flaming again, we can always delete his posts, block his IP from BT?, or ban his IP from the forums.

You know Masakari, an insult is an insult. Insulting one show is equally as offensive as insulting all. So try to learn from your own posts first before pointing the fingers at others.  Cause you seem to be setting bad examples really.

I can understand Tofu is AWOL.  I have a few questions.

1.) Who has the raws?
2.) If you can churn out other releases with other translators, why not ask one of them to help out with this project?

It's coming up to nearly 2 years without a new episode.
Title: Re: 3000 leagues in search of mother
Post by: gumbaloom on February 11, 2007, 07:53:41 pm
Tofu has the raws and he's vanished off the face of the earth.

He owns the laserdiscs and capped them.

Therefore we're fucked till someone buys the DVD's OR Tofu comes back(unlikely)

As for translators, the translators we have are a) AWOL eg tofu and Demn b) already tied up don't what to TL more than what they already have c) Have zero interest in World Masterpiece Theatre.

I *might* eventually ressurect 3,000 leagues if something doesnt happen before hand but I'm not made of money so can't afford to go blowing money on random R2's at the minute nor is my Japanese good enough yet.

Hi. I'm from Argentina; spanish is my first lang., but I read (and to some extent, write) english without problems. If eventually the translators ressume the work with "3000 leagues in search of mother", I offer my modest help, for revision and/or doubts. I do not understand japanese at all, but have an old spanish-dubbed copy of Marco; I love the series, I'd only love to get a decent video source to re-rip it (the spanish one is poor).

Good things come to those who wait.....

Well Ep 08 is out enjoy p33ps. You should all hop over to C1 anime's chan and worship at the altar of Meiko (the same TL'er who does Peter Pan) for agreeing to take over the translation gig for this show. At long last the haha curse is broken :o
