Hey Guys,
This other day some guy came to the channel and asked about the way Live should be pronounced. Well normally, since it's the internet, we wouldn't really have to bother about pronounciations but say you're talking with your friends about it, how would it look when a fixed pronounciation is not used? So I was just curious about what people thought about this matter. Feel free to place your vote. Reasons aren't needed but if you want, you can post your reason.

I put in my vote, BUT... i really think this is a pointless poll. people will pronounce it however they see fit, and that's OK... hehehe, as long as they get our subs! :P
Besides, there should be another option: "Who cares? Just as long as L-E continues"
Why worry about pronunciation anyway? I mean, who in the world gets my nick right? If I worried about it all the time, there would be no end...
and there's my $1.50 worth :)

Cause some people are curious. Again, if two friends are talking and friend A pronounces it one way and friend B the other, it will seem weird, won't it?
-
not really, especially since most people seem to refer to "L-E" when speaking out loud :p
-
Hmmm, actually whenever I pronounce L-E, people who don't download animes ask me what does L-E stand for, then I'm stuck with the pronounciation, so people wanted me to figure it out. Also there was a debate about it in the channel today. Of-course I know most people just say L-E, but some people don't and it creates confusion then...someone had this problem in the channel today so I just wanted people's opinion. Now if we had Sol's answer, it would be a different case. ;D
-
I do recall that this arguement has appeared in the forums before... i want to say it was about a year ago...
Anyway, there were a lot of good points in the old thread. so if you're really that curious, you should just go find that old thread. 8)
Oh- and thanks for adding my suggestion :p
-
I asked Sol today and this is was his answer,
I quote:
'its i live here, or atleast that was the original intent, though it dosnt really matter either way '
Hmmmm...

Well, "Live" as in "I live here" makes more sence. It makes more of a statement or catch phrase "Live Evil dude! 8)" Unless it was "Alive and Evil" that works too.
-
On the other hand, if it's the "alive" pronunciation, then it becomes a description of the group as a whole. We are "live evil," it's like saying "we are evil incarnate".... which i'm sure many of the anime companies would say is true of any fansub group ;p
-
oh dear I feel so lonely, I cannot still connect to ETG. :'(
Anyway, I'd say it looks cooler with Live as in 'Alive' cause then it would be like Live (as in on the spot) evil....which we are! ;D If you know what I mean.
-
I always say it as "I live here". It just sounds weird the other way.
It's almost like "I live evilly" or something silly.
-
I always just assumed it was live like in "alive" and never even considered the whole idea of alternate pronunciations until is saw this thread.
-
he he, but as you can see other people have different opinions. ;D
-
For what it's worth, there is a miles davis album named live evil.
-
The founder of the group pronounces it like "give", but most people say it like "dive" so really, it doesn't matter :)

There is a live album from The Misfits called liveevil which always came to mind for me so it was just live as in alive for me.
-
Ya it feels more energetic with 'live' as in 'alive' and a bit philosophical and quiet with live as in living. I definitely like live like in alive better.

When I see "Live-eviL" i always think of the old move Rock N Rule.

/me wonders who voted for the 'who cares?' option.

I would like to think the group's name was inspired from that album but apparently it's not. Where did sol` get 'live-evil' from though?
-Tsubasa
-
Indeed, it would be interesting to know the inspiration for the name. I wonder what it was... ??? ??? ???
-
I always thought it was a reference to a live album (by Ronnie James Dio, I think), by that same name. Therefore it was always "Live" as in "Alive" for me.
Then one day I went looking in the forums and found out that it was named after an album by Miles Davies, by the same name. It's a good name!! :D
So there, to me it's just Live as in Alive, and I think this is very important!! :I
It's a funny thing, especially in a conversation, when 2 ppl have different ways of pronouncing the same thing. for example "Phrygian", the 5th mode of the major scale. I have friends who say phry-geeean, and others (like me), who say it like... frigi-an. ....oh well, enough of that!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hehe, that's how this question came into being. ;) Some friends were discussing L-E and a few of them were saying Live as in living while the rest where saying live as in alive. ??? So one of them came to the channel and asked. Something similar happened several months back I think. Though I wasn't there that time. ;D

-
It's too bad we can't just get a proclamation from the person who came up with the name so we can settle this question once and for all ;D
-
/me decided to bug sol` again. ;) ;D :P
-Tsubasa
-
Hmmmmmmmmmm... Does it really matter though? I always pronounced it as in alive. Seems to make more sense that way. What with evil having the hard 'e' sound at the beginning and all. Demo, moiinjanaino?
-
The issue is, our founder Sol wants it to be live pronounced like give and most of us thinks that sucks and would like to pronounce live like in alive as you said. But when the founder is talking different....-_-
-Tsubasa
-
I say it as "Raifu"
-
You mean Raibu.
Raibu-iiburu
So much bu bus.
Here here piggy, booboo.~
-Tsubasa
-
Yes "Raibu"
I was thinking "Life" not "Live" lol
-
I've thought for many a years about how live is evil backwards and the other way around. So evil lives is how I pronounce it in my head.
-
So evil lives is how I pronounce it in my head.
I have to say you're not very far from the truth.

The band "Nightmare" has a song called LivEvil XD
-
I knida noticed it's like:
Live Live, but the oposite direction of the letters (in the second time)
Live eviL
So I didn't really bother about the meaning, but -> Alive.

Yup. :D

-
Live as in Alive cause like live evil is like saying either opposite of living is evil ?? or something :P
but the impression i get is either living evil or the opposite factor that i just said just then
-
...but the impression i get is either living evil or...
'Live' as in 'I live here.' OR 'Live' as 'being alive and being Evil'
