Title: Mermaid's Forest
Post by: Tofusensei on October 11, 2003, 02:24:18 pm
Hey!

So first off I'd like to say that this show has no connection to Rumic Theater whatsoever, so not having seen Rumic Theater will not affect your enjoyment of this show ^_^

I think this is one of the greatest horror stories ever told! What do you all think?

Did you like ep 1?  Any other old-school Rumiko Takahashi fans going crazy right now w/ excitement? :D :D

yay!  all of the new shows are unusual and exciting.  thank you for subbing them.

mermaid's forest ep 1 was interesting... i watched the episode before reading the "mermaid primer," so i was really surprised at how they were presented.  yuta and mana look like they'll be good protagonists, looking forward to the rest of the series.

I just want to say thank you guys so much for subbing this!  I've been a fan of this series since Viz started to release them in comic form.  (Man that seems like such a long time ago... ^_^) have every issue they put out.  (I'm a total old school Rumiko Takahashi fan and I am going crazy with excitement!!)

But I first heard about Mermaid's Forest becoming a TV series from you on this forum, and when I read the post I was freaking out!  (But I just became a forum member right now ^-^)

But seriosuly I've always loved this series and I'm still blown away it's gettings a TV series!  Thanks again for subbing it!  You've really made me happy!

Um ... let's see.  Sorry if I'm being a nuisance and posting in the wrong forum ... I'm having a problem watching episode 1 of Mermaid's Forest.  I know I'm supposed to download the latest xvid codec and all that, but I have a Macintosh so it can't open the .exe file that the codec downloads as.  So I'm kinda stuck ... I was able to watch your Rumic Theater episodes with the earlier xvid by getting the ffmpegX program, but Mermaid's Forest won't work.  Is there any solution?  Do I just have to wait until I can get to a Windows-computer to download the episode?

I was able to get sound though.  It sounds pretty!!  Heh ^ˆ^;

Umm, if you could watch the Rumic Theater eps, then you should be able to watch Mermaid's Forest...

I actually used the exact same encoding settings O_O;;;

Sure you tried everything?

Post by: risu on October 13, 2003, 05:11:30 pm
Well, I didn't try a whole lot, but I opened it in ffmpegX like I usually do for Rumic Theater and other xvid files, and when I clicked the "Play" button nothing happened (usually a little icon pops up and a window opens up to play the video).  I guess I'll keep messing with it and see what I can do ... thanks.

Ep 1 was soooo good. my baby sister flipped when i told her you were doing this one so now i have to hook her up since her connection is crap.anyway as usual fantastic job can't wait for more.i've been looking forward to this one i do enjoy a story with a dark plot and well lets face it everything Rumiko Takahashi does is fantastic. After all she is one of the main reasons i'm such a huge anime fan.well keep up the great work.

I liked what I saw, the story seems interresting, I like the first season, I didn't know this before, and I do not know the artist or any of his or her other work, so I'm not that much of an old school fan, but a new one none the less.

I sometimes also have problems with xvid codec, I guess it can't be helped, all except the first one of the 1st season work for me, I'm still trying to think of new ways to get it to show.

Maybe I can upload it into flash and let it re-code it in it's own codec, I shall have to try and see if that works, that is, if it'll let it be imported into the program, it refused to load in VDub, Premiere and AfterEffects, but since I'm skilled enough to create games in Flash I might be able to use actionscript to load it and decode and re-code it, who knows, it just might work or not, I'll look into it in the upcoming days, don't expect anything though, if I do find out a way, I'll let you all know.

Anyways, it looks like it's going to be a very nice serie, is there going to be a 3rd season? I can hardly wait for that already!  ;D  :D

Post by: chii on October 16, 2003, 02:17:35 am
Well I didn't have any prob.s, but then again I have all the latest codecs!!! :P

Oh, I've once again fallen in love with Rumiko Takahashi's beautiful universe!  I just can't get enough of her work- especially these shorter series because although I'll never miss an Inuyasha, the plot became      v-e-r-y redundant about 100 eps ago.

Isn't Mana hot? I wish I looked like her.  Now if they could only get Sesshomeru to do a cameo...  mmmmm Sesshomeru...

*idle hands slowly make their way down to warm sticky genitals*

The 1st and 2nd ep are kinda choppy for me too. Where the heck can I get that new codec everyone was talking about? I read that someone's video was fixed once they installed it.

??? ???

http://roeder.goe.net/%7Ekoepi/xvid.shtml

This is koepi's website with the xvid codec. Make sure you get the UNSTABLE codec (four updates down). If you get the stable codec instead, the video wil play but will be extremely choppy.
Title: Re: Mermaid's Forest
Post by: OOOOOOO on October 23, 2003, 01:05:53 pm
All you guys having codec problems, I have none. Neither do I have Xvid nor Divx installed.  Indeed different versions of Xvid encoders combined with differed Xvid decoders have produced nightmares for me until I stopped using Xvid.

I use FFDshow from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/, a generic MP4 decoder, that has greater picture results decoding both XVID and Divx than both themselves.  You can tell it to use FFDshow or XVID or Divx or not, when its installed.

Regards,
Bluey.

Wow, I had no idea they started a series for this! I LOVED the movie "Mermaid Forest" and read the 4 comics of that storyline, but have yet to buy the graphic novels and read it all. Is anyone else upset that the video is out of print? And it's never on ebay when I look. At least now there is a whole series about it!

I'm currently using BitTorrent to download episode one, and it says it's going to take 47 hours. Should I just download IRC and get it from there instead? I've never used IRC before, so I'm somewhat nervous.

Anyway, I'm really excited to watch this! I hope it's as good as I want it to be!

No need, I'll seed RTMF this saturday all the way through sunday night, I am not an IRC-fan myself and since I'm behind a router which IRC seems to hate I stick to BT aswell, I am so happy BT is there, BT-ownage!!!

Ha,so I thought right, it does look a lot like Inu Yasha's art, heh, and I just found out that RT is earlier work.

I haven't seen much of InuYasha and it's very difficult to come by where I live, and they don't show it on TV here, I doubt they ever will, I must admit it's the most longest anime serie I have heard off, lol, never enough information, information = Knowledge and Knowledge = Power, lmao. Sess is very molestable so I can understand.

Yeah, I'm having my boyfriend download it now through BT since I couldn't figure out IRC.

In looking at the art of the RT movies, Yuto looks a lot like Ryoga from Ranma 1/2. But the art in the TV series leans towards Inuyasha. Ranma 1/2 is much longer than Inuyasha, but that could change since it's still being made. I by far prefer the Mermaid's Forest story over Inuyasha, not that I don't like it, I just like MF better. I've loved it ever since I saw the movie, but I think I said that already.

Can't wait to see episode four today!

It makes sense that this was done earlier because the animation is not quite as 'high-tech' as the new Inuyashas.  When was RTMF originally made?  Mid 90s maybe?

And yeah, don't all the women look like Sango?

What is Rumic Theater? Is it the same as Mermaid's Forest or another series altogether?
Title: Re: Mermaid's Forest
Post by: Odd_shapeShifter on November 16, 2003, 10:09:42 pm
Rumic Theather is the 1st season (the story has nothing to do with Mermaid's Forest) and the first season consist out of small stories, I loved that season, still do actually.

If you get episode 1 of Rumic Theather to work, please tell me how, I've been trying to get it work for a long time, not to mention I DLed it again and still not working, I can't even tell you how much I DLed that file, lol.

Rumic Theater is built on a series of short-stories by Takahashi Rumiko. Most of these were published in english under the title "Rumic Theater" by... Viz I think, which is why we chose that translation of the title.

Rumic Theater was 13 eps, and the series that followed in the current season was Mermaid's Forest.
That is why Mermaid's Forest is regarded as season 2, even though the two stories aren't related.

Firstly, as a raving old-school Takahashi fan, I'd like to thank y'all soooo much for subbing this and RT. MF is probably my favorite Takahashi story series of all time, and Yamadera Kouichi's voice acting as Yuta as well...  ( for those of you who don't know, he was Yuta in the original MF ova as well as Ryoga in Ranma 1/2) at any rate, thank you for making thsi available!

I haven't seen a new episode up in a while though, and I was wondering why...I hope you haven't decided to drop the series!

Hey, I don't mind if you guys take your time. ;D It gives me time to work on the website I started making for Mermaid's Forest. I got sidetracked making it awhile ago, so it isn't nearly finished.

Besides, the series itself doesn't really have any closure. At least, the manga didn't, so I'm assuming the anime won't as well since they parallel so closely.

I should probably try downloading one of your other titles while I'm waiting...

Hi, I was wondering if anybody else was having problems with their last two episodes of MF...

The episodes for me are still watchable, it's just that every once in a while I'll get a bunch of neon green squares on the screen and the image will blur a bit.  I've downloaded it a couple times and it still happens.  I'm just wondering if it's the episode or if something is happening when it downloads b/c I haven't had any problem with the other episodes ^_^

On the other hand, it's a great show and thanks so much for subbing it! That and Rumic Theater!  Does anyone know if there's a soundtrack for these shows? I just *love* the opening and ending themes...

Thanks again!

Thank you very much, Live-eviL!!

But it's kind of sad that MF has no 'real' ending. I'd like to know if Yuta and Mana will find what they are looking for one day ...

@HikaruChan: I think it is a codec problem. I had some problems, too, but installing ffdshow worked very well.

I haven't heard anything about a soundtrack, sorry.

Thanks for the help Saya, ffdshow worked nicely ^_^ Although I've been able to watch the other episodes without problem...hmmm...very strange indeed...

yeah, it's an open ending because the manga is still going...well kinda, it's on hiatus right now (I hate it when manga-ka's do that >_<) but rumor has it Rumiko is going to pick it up again after she finishes Inuyasha...so who knows ^_^

Oh, and I'm going to answer my own question.  After a *lot* of searching, and posting on forums asking, I found a soundtrack for both Rumic Theater and Mermaid's Forest, if anyone's interested.

http://store.yahoo.com/animenation/iocd-11045.html

*sigh* Figures...it's in the most obvious place, and the last place I think to look.... :-[

Till inuyasha is done? guys... inuyasha is still ongoing .. If mermaid forest was open ending.. inuyasha is never ending... they allways keep on finding ways to stretch it out and start all over again.

as long as Inuyasha is a money cow... it will not end...

Well, if you have patience I'd say watch Gilgamesh... It takes a while to get going but it is very interesting...

I'd definitely recommend Yawara! and Galaxy Railways... If you do not mind old style animation watch 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother and Galaxy Express 999 too!

What sort of shows do you like? Maybe I can narrow it down more ^^;

Actually, the manga is ending somewhere in between this upcoming September and December.  The magazine she publishes through has a limit on the number of chapters she can do and she's fast approaching that limit ^_^;;;

The anime is another story...

But that means that it won't be long until she does more Mermaid Saga ^_^  As was said on another board, that's a story she tends to do between longer ones so....

Finally *phew*
Don't misunderstood pls. I love the anime & manga but they're just painfully long and the story is going on in circle. I'm kinda glad it's nearing it's end. Just hope that it's a good ending. I'm rarely satisfied with Takahashi's sensei ending. Maison Ikkoku's was good though :)

as for finding our channel, make sure you are connected to irc.enterthegame.com before you try joining #live-evil

also in my opinion animenfo is not a very good source for information about recent anime. i use www.envirosphere.com for fansub release updates (and other useful information), and www.jascii.net for reviews of recent anime.

The only place you will be able to find that stuff is via streamload and some hidden boards.. you can try googling for anime streamload
However I am just giving you the info in case the series is not licensed in your area.... however unfortunately I cannot help you beyond that..
also note streamload is not free.. its not expensive but its not freeloader friendly.

I would highly recommend also trying to obtain the dvds themselves

Once again this series has been dropped by Live-evil.. all commentaries Ive posted are not related to live-evil
