Title: KIMAGURE ORANGE ROAD
Post by: Tofusensei on March 07, 2008, 09:28:03 pm
Well, well! What do you guys think of this show? Everything old is new again! It was always a dream of ours to subtitle KOR one day ^^

Wow! That is FANTASTIC news!! KOR is a great show and it deserves the kind of good treatment that you guys know how to give. I think the Mermaid Forest and Rumic Theatre files I have were done by you folks.

Will you smite me if I grovel, drag myself along the ground with my tongue, and plead humbly that you not make use of matroska's VFR features?

if u guys were planning on doing such projects as tribute to old animes...would not one that is

All I got to say is... Absolutely Beautiful!   ;D

I still have the whole fansubbed VHS set from Artic sitting around somewhere.  Can't believe how many VHS tapes we all bought back then lol.

I'm glad to see KOR redone and hope it will draw in a new audience.  Great job guys! :)

Yeah, I still have VHS fansubs everywhere, I really need to digitize them and make some space. I've never watched KOR but I've heard good things about it. I had no idea that the animeigo dvds were out of print, and here I thought I'd just pick up a dvd one day and try the series. I remember way back there was a petition sent to Animeigo for the tv series. Still waiting for their release of Yawara! Should be soon I hope. Keep up the good work.

Gr8 move,...(and thanks for all the anime you have subbed thus far).
KOR is an excellent series but for the shin KOR movie.
And Kimagure pilot also needs to be released in better quality.

I just wanted to know if the quality is better than the mkv ones available out there by 'anime eternal'?...I also have the VHS one by some  'SSX'. Ironically  I liked  the SSX ones too....(Umm, how do I put it, they were a little rich in colour).

Just one question : what is the song from 0:11 to 3:07 ?
Its the second opening from the OVA series..."(Choose Me)" by Yuiko Tsubokura.

What about Dirty pair?
and yes I also have been looking for Yawara.

One more question...are the subs separately available? I usually have a hard time finding just the subs for a series.

Post by: Ryokucha on March 08, 2008, 05:41:53 am
Truly a classic, one of my all time favs! The quality is great. And Madoka is still as cool as ever ^^

Fansub History 101, hehe great! I am glad there are still people out there who remember the good ole days where we would have to get every thing on VHS, I still have piles of tapes KOR being among them... Where you may get a 5th gen copy and hardly be able to see any thing... People these days have no idea how great they have it... Now days you see eps out as fast as they air, not months or in most cases years after they aired...

My eyes & ears thank you, keep up the great work!

Post by: Ted elDap on March 08, 2008, 06:23:44 am

Thanks for starting KOR!!!!

I have the VHS tapes -  The subs dance around so much that they are bearly readable.  Had to watch it on my 14 inch computer screen because the 27 inch TV made everything too blurry.

I later got a DVD set from a Hong Kong.  I think they used a Japanese to Cinese dictionary, a Chinese to English dictionary, and a truck load of beer to sub the series.

So, Thanks again!

I remember this show from when I was in college, it was a major draw for the fanboys, the fans became very factionized, there was a madoka faction and a hikaru faction and the arguments would go on and on and on.  I only liked the minor chars like akane and the main character's two sisters, but still it's nice to see this show again.

LE, you guys are awesome for putting this anime out. It was my first and will always, always be my favourite.  I did manage to get the Animeigo DVD versions, not at home atm, so Kinda curious to see how better the new versions will be. but yes..  [:perchut2] [:perchut2]

And a sub Q: i'm on a mac so i'm not really all that.. informed about how to IRC on mac.. are there any DLs out there or is there some way i can access the uploads as their subbed (in the case that the torrents will take some time, as you mentioned).. Thanks in advance!!

but no you suck

On the other hand, I find it hard to totally disagree with smoke123. Kimagure Orange Road is a fantastic series, but was legally available in its entirety with English subs for many, many years. By comparison, none of the awesome 1970s/1980s Leiji Matsumoto series have ever been licensed properly in English, so I'd say its a something of a shame that resources have been diverted to a series which, while admittedly OOP, is still easily available from R1 DVD vendors online, albeit with the original video transfers.

If I was so concerned at getting a better-looking version of KOR, I'd go straight to the uncompressed R2 source, which I've already done! I'm not setting out to cause trouble, but am I totally wrong for thinking along these lines?

/me attempted it in a ,,, ahem former life..
It is a NIGHTMARE  to sub because of Sana-chan and the very odd way she speaks and the fact that SHE TALKS AT MACH 3!  :o

my hat goes off to those who picked up the license here locally, and I hope they don't pull all their hair out!

My LD boxed sets of Kodocha will sit safe in the closet fur now! :P

I'm looking forward to the remastered version.  Don't skimp on the bitrate, especially for the soundtrack.  I have my name in the Animeigo LD release and Animeigo deserves all praise in the world for working on this series.

For anyone who thinks this is yet another typical high school love story, you are wrong.  This is not a Tenchi style harem anime or a Madoka vs. Hikaru catfight.

KOR is the best story ever told in anime, Miyazaki aside.  I had to watch it three times to pick up all the nuances of the plot.  Not to get too deep into spoilers, Madoka is very intelligent.  The story is about her and what she wants and how she gets it....

Good morning, everyone!

How are you doing on this lovely Sunday? Did you guys in America remember to spring your clocks forward an hour? :)

We are proud to bring you the third installment of Kimagure Orange Road! In episode 3, we have the infamous cheek-to-cheek episode. Some may translate this as “slow dancing,” but as a nostalgic trip for anyone who remembers the original fansubs, we stuck with the phrasing “cheek-to-cheek.” :)

This is a great episode as we get to see Ayukawa get jealous for the first time. Check it out!

Remember, you can only get these episodes on irc for now, so come join us in #live-evil on irc.enterthegame.com

Good morning, everyone!

As promised, here is the next episode in Kimagure Orange Road. You’ll need to come onto irc at #live-evil on irc.enterthegame.com for this one.

In this episode, the tension picks up as Kyousuke is not thinking straight and there is a huge misunderstanding about him and Hikaru! We also get to see Madoka kick some butt, which is always fun. Check it out! :)

Holy c--- you guys, what a blistering release schedule!! I'm too lazy to want to take my IRC client out of mothballs and configure it so that it doesn't auto-accept everything anybody throws at it, so I'll wait for the bt. I am glad you guys are releasing this. When this post began it became a blog of how KOR has affected my life.  Instead, I will simply say that it has, and am glad to get a higher quality version of it (not that I have watched the Animeigo DVDs I purchased).  The first version of KOR I watched had cutlet sandwich translated as some sort of ice cream.  KOR makes me nostalgic for the VHS days etc, but I will refrain from waxing nostalgic here  ;)

I made some comparisons with the three different files that I had. I still am in a dilemma as to which ones are better. (find some comparisons here (http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh188/hyugakojirou/))
The VHS ones have something distinctive going for them...and if they are noise-free I regard them as the best(sadly which wasn't he case with KOR). I however very much appreciate the work of all three groups.

BTW I found some torrents for the third episode...So are they 'officially' out?

Good morning! If you're celebrating St. Patrick's day early, cheers to you! :)

In the 9th episode of KOR, Kurumi gets "kidnapped" and hilarity ensues. As Kyousuke says, I'd be more worried about the kidnapper than her! :)

On an interesting side note, and "easter eggs" like this only come from subtitling the show and getting very detailed. The Japanese producers, sometime around episode 5 or 6, changed the spelling of the Kasuga family's cat from Jingorou to Jingoro. This is reflected in the subs as well (it was intentional). My guess is that someone screwed up and noticed around episode 5 or 6 when they were making it! :)

Come onto irc and get the files ^^

it seems as Funimation has dropped it after the first season, they have made no move to complete it at all, so it may be perticurarly safe to see the later half of Kodomo no omocha, in better quality and subbed correctly.

I have already seen it and it was a interisting, seriously - funny type serries.

Would you like scripts from R.A.A.D.O.R.S.?  We redid Arctic's scripts long ago(Mid 90's).  I have all of them in JACOsub format currently, but I can convert them to SSA and then to Aegisub if needed.

The official line is once they've finished episode 13 on IRC they'll place 1-12 as a single pack on Bittorrent.   Till then we wait patiently.

Hi, just wanted to let you guys know I'm ecstatic that you're working on KOR.  It was one of the first anime shows that really got me hooked and to this day, I still think fondly of it.  I came on the forum to see if you guys will be working on the OVA and movie, and see its my lucky day!

Thanks again for your hard work on bringing attention to this eternal classic... I hope a new generation of KOR fans are born from your effort!

I've decided rewatching Kimagure Orange Road is lke crack cocaine.  I'd watched it well over a decade ago when the anime scene was still very much in it's infancy in the UK.  I waited patiently for the first batch to come on to bit torrent, just about controlling the shakes (cold turkey started slipping), I then was unable to watch them for a while (or was that me proving to myself I could avoid watching them), and then I watched them.

I've got the shakes again  ::)

Quick question.

Is episode 13 still only available from the IRC channel ?

Also is this labour of some one's love now on hold ? - just wondering as the last update was back in April, but the original postings made it sound like one of the crew was looking forwards to completing this.

Eps 1-13 are available on IRC.
We will finish the series.

Yes, episode 13 is still irc only. We will be releasing 12 episode batches on bit torrent.

I have some actual work that is keeping me busy. Expect KOR releases to resume as early as December. Wish I had better news for ya! ^^;

As explained in pigcast #68.5, there is none of that.  The pig runs an 'umbrella' type group and what that means is independent teams, no pressure, and no top-down.  Mr. Happy, the bunny in charge of Harlock, was never given priority in any way.  His team got the work done on their own accord.  Now Bun-bun has been running incognito and that's why KOR is going nowhere very fast.  But that's just the way bunnies are.  That's why it's a pig at the top and not a bunny in charge.  Someday Bun-bun might come hopping back in, but until then, the state of KOR is not going to change.

I'd like to say i joined this forum just to post here how great it is your re-releaseing this anime, i actually have all the vhs fansubs of this series from the 90's and have been trying to copy them over to my stand alone dvd burner to save them but the qaulity is just terrible for them being so old. I got my hands on some of the laser disc's from Viz ( or was it AnimEigo )  in the 90's as well but i have no idea how to sub ( used to have a zero-g unit way back in the day tryed then but fialed lol ) I seriously cant wait for you guys to complete this series as it was by far one of my most enjoyed watch anime series of all time. keep up the good work!

I can't wait for the rest to be release though I know it will take a while. Right now I'm reading the Manga.  :)
I heard these are the remastered DVDs so the quality is going to be better than any of those previous releases which I guess is worth the wait. Anyway, I hope you guys keep it up. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of th is series. Thanks for your hard work!  [:jar jar]

So i'll just say thanks very much to you guys at Live Evil :)

Just one question : what is the song from 0:11 to 3:07 ?
KOR never was dubbed-just subbed-it's nice to see somebody pick it up since Animigo lost the license and R1 dvds are expensive as heck-if you can find them.

Unfortunately the leader of the team for that came down with a severe case of Triskaidekaphobia, so that episode had to be skipped.  Every time the pig mentioned it he would freak out and go out of contact for a few days.  So we just moved on and there you have it.

I ended up getting it from IRC.  It's not listed on the bittorrent site (which is where I was looking).

And yes it was me being a noob on IRC a few nights back trying to use trillian.

He is probably referring to the torrents (ex: http://animesuki.com/series.php/421.html (http://animesuki.com/series.php/421.html)). There's the 1-12 pack and then the new ep.14, no trace of ep.13 on any of the search engines either.

Now that you are back to subbing KOR, it would be nice to add a torrent for that missing link, so to speak. (Some people aren't using IRC much)

Keep up the great work!

Edit: Oops... a bite late. That's what I get for bookmarking the previous page  -_-;;

I have to admit, that fake episode "14" was very funny!

Anyway, I want just to say that I love this series! The story and especially the music (pure 80s italodisco, in an early "eurobeat" stage) are simply perfect and I really love the work you have done so far!
I hope to see more in the future from you! Nothing can be compared to the job you do guys!

I have one project (Be-Boy Kidnapp'n Idol) close to finishing recording. I'm just waiting on one of the main characters to finish his lines so I can start the sound mix. Other than some mic quality issues, this has gone very well. This fandub won't be like your typical hack job with missing music/sound fx. This will get a full 5.1 channel surround mix complete with Foley and background effects.

I promise to give you a high quality show that might surprise you. 8)

hiya

sorry i made an account to ask this question, I dunno if this is the right spot but:

I'm watching KoR for the first time thru Live-Evils work, I gotten to episode 14 from the torrent but i ran into something I found out...

This episiode is mislabeled and should be episiode 35, according to Anime Network (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=327&page=25) episode listing , episode 14 is suppose to have Madoka in some wrestling matter but it shows Kosuga mind controlled somehow I dunno how (Plz don't spoil why this is occurring) haven't seen the rest of the episode.

I was wondering is this known?   ???

PS:
got the torrent from: http://a.scarywater.net/live-evil/
labeled [Live-eviL] Kimagure Orange Road - Ep 14 [Abcb00014].mkv

edit: last note wondering why episode 13 isn't available, I'm pretty new here so dunno much    :o

Oh, my... please check the date on the release. ;)

If you are not familiar with traditions in the USA, our apologies. This release was a "troll sub" in honor of April Fools Day. You should notice that some parts of the translation in this episode might seem "off". There is also exaggerated typesetting. ::) It is meant to give you a good laugh and catch you by surprise. :D

At this time we are in need of translation help to continue the actual subbing of this series.

Enjoy,
