NOTE - Leiji Matsumoto diehards need not vote in this poll
As the topic says.
Does our subbing of ultra popular shows like Tsubasa and Initial D 4th Stage make you interested in the more classic anime shows we sub.
Have you come for Tsubasa and then gone out and downloaded another show and actually enjoyed it ? Or do you just come here for your weekly Tsubasa fix and the leave without a second thought to anything else we sub?
Tell us what you think!

Treachery!
-
Okay, considering that Harlock gets about as many downloads here as it did under several other subbing brand names, and the fact that there is factor of 100 separating anything "classic" to the popular mob series, the answer is obviously; No, only in rare circumstances.
Pop-culture whores are brainless morons who come only to watch whats popular, becasue that's the sort of half-witt dumbasses they are.
Classic Anime fans are smarter to boot; I never get requests for help with IRC from Leiji fans. Tsubasa fans are like "Duh, ::drool over Sakura:: Uh.... @Find Tsubasa," becasue they can't READ.
Tsubasa fans are pathetic husks of people who mindlessly bend and yield to the whims of Pop-culture[/color]
-
We're not just Tsubasa fans we're CLAMP fans :P
We go nuts over thier other shows too.
-
Tsubasa fans are pathetic husks of people who mindlessly bend and yield to the whims of Pop-culture
I find that generalization a bit offensive...
I discovered live-evil from tsubasa, and have watched many of your shows since then (Snow Queen being one of my favourites, at least from the first eps.)
Each anime I hate is one more anime I can't watch. So I hate as few as possible and thus can watch the greatest possible amount.
-
Tsubasa isn't anime. Its Ass-Shit.
-
NOTE - Leiji Matsumoto diehards need not vote in this poll
ok,so there's no need to vote for me ;)
however...ultra popular usually stands for crap & pulp imo (a few exeptions are made. and stuff like SSM I can't call 'new' since it's Leiji )
the reason I've always loved you guys (& still do) is actually the old stuff
there's some new stuff I like, like SQ but that's prolly coz it kinda reminds me of Heidi (which I saw long before most of the 'new' animefans were even born ;D
hey...I must be old ... :P
LEIJI RULES!!
-
Just the other day I was thinking to myself that I wish Live-eviL would just focus on their `spacialities', rather than wasting time on `popular' projects. Do not get me wrong, I am very pleased to see you pick up Tsubasa Chronicle and NANA, but I would rather see your resources put into more regular releases of Leijiverse and classic mahou shoujo titles.
I am probably an oddity, but I started collecting Live-eviL releases for the classics, and after I saw the quality I started collecting the other releases here in preference to other groups.
-

no you're not ;)
that's what l-e still stands for imo:decent rips of classic shows

wow so much generalization. Personally I don't care if the anime is popular or not I'll watch it if the story interests me. I like Tsubasa because it has many characters from different clamp series that I enjoy and also my favorite composer is composing for it and that's the reason why I watch it not because it's popular. Popular anime like Naruto and Dragon Ball doesn't interest me so I could care less what happens to it, I'll watch anime that no one else watches if the story interests me.

Don't worry. The Leijiverse team ONLY works on Leiji animes.

tsubasa? pfff
nana? pfff
initial d? pfffffffffff
what are these lousy boring shows?
they look like online flash animations. south park meets tekken the animation.(gets upset stomach)
makes you want to die your hair blonde and drive a volvo while drinking a latte and listening to the highschool punk rock top 40 (gets upset stomach times 4)
i came for the good stuff! :)
and lots of good stuff around this place

Dragon Ball doesn't interest me so I could care less what happens to it, I'll watch anime that no one else watches if the story interests me.
DB was good,at least the original;not all the z,gt,etc...crap that spawned after that
DB was your typical 80's gag anime with some form of quest involved
DBZ =pulp & therefor pure crap(imo)
-
speaking of pulp...
pulp, the viz magazine!
those were the great days when you could get the lattest pulp and read some fun manga!
R.I.P. pulp :(
-
I like watching all sorts of stuff. After joining live-evil to fill a few hours a week by helping out with qc I've got to watch loads of different things. As far as I'm concerned subbing popular shows does help spread awareness of the other projects we do.
-

true
that's what I said in the Shin-Getter channel a few weeks ago.they only do 3 (old) shows of which Space Runaway Ideon is their main project(almost an ep every week & sometimes 2)
they're always complaining that there's only 10 guys in their channel(which I think is a shame coz they do a fine job),so I suggested to do something popular, just to lure folks over to the channel ;)

wow so much generalization. Personally I don't care if the anime is popular or not I'll watch it if the story interests me.
I agree. If you saw my blog (http://elricofgrans.blogspot.com/), you would see that I checked out most new season titles, and stuck with the ones that interested me ;) My point is that the popular anime will be picked up by 5-10 groups, and as long as at least one of them is a good group, then even if Live-eviL had not picked it up, I would still be able to enjoy it. There is at least one group subbing every title that initially interested me (except Sasami -Mahou Shoujo Club-), and with the popular titles I have a choice of good groups.
PS I know there is a special Matsumoto division, but I am sure you would not complain if you had more assistance: we sure would not complain about having too much to watch ;)
-
haven't found much new stuff that I really liked lately.Ayakashi was very good IMO
and I get a great blade runner feeling from Ergo Proxy atm so I'll prolly stick with that;but that's bout it.
am watching Galaxy Railways again atm,for some reason I just love that show ;)
-
I'm a little surprised here. I'm too old too...out of the loop as to what's popular anime wise!!! I'm glad for the classics, I came here looking for Yawara, and got addicted to a couple of older series. Of course, I'm drooling all over the Sailor Moon subs...

>:( I drive a ford, DRINK MY LATTE! and listen to JPOP/Classical mix, I like NANA and BTW My hair is very dark! Your disdainful stereotyping is a bit small minded. Your upset stomach probably is a result of the level of your arrogance, it seems to know no bounds.
As for the poll I came here for Sailor Moon and found Nana by accident, I don't watch Tsubasa at all...just not my thing! ;D
-
I love old anime, I've grown with Candy Candy, Saint Seiya, Majokko no Meg-chan and so many others that it's just a part of my anime culture.
Still, I love Tsubasa and I love Nana, people who waste time insulting fans of a certain show have either low self-esteem or don't want to be confused with the so-called anime noob, so they revel in their elitist ways and fell all the better for it, and I'm so glad I give their life meaning and a reason for them to be special.
-
Still, I love Tsubasa and I love Nana, people who waste time insulting fans of a certain show have either low self-esteem or don't want to be confused with the so-called anime noob
or they have a different taste ;)
-
And therefore show it through insult.
-
so where is this so called 'insult' posted anyway??
-
"Tsubasa fans are pathetic husks of people who mindlessly bend and yield to the whims of Pop-culture..."
Or would this be flattery?
-
ok,maybe the 'pathetic husks' are wrongly used, but the popculture part is so to the point
it's kinda the same thing as running along with the likes of Christina,JLO & the likes & claiming you've seem it all now
I'm not saying Leiji fans are demi-gods (everyone knows we're gods ;) ),however, most of the oldskool fans are ....old...coz we grew up with the stuff.I've seen litterally thousands & more animes in my lifetime so far;so yes I can afford to be a wee bit more critical than 16 year olds who get their kicks from Naruto & the likes & who claim to have seen the light.
And there's also the 'different taste' part,or do you claim that you've NEVER before (un)winnlingly insulted someone over something that he/she liked & you didn't??
This is called having an opinion m8

I have discovered Live Evil through Tsubasa and due to extremely low bandwidth all I can manage to download is Tsubasa. I have no time, bandwidth, and patience to try out the other anime series..although I am certain they must be good. I have watched all the classics back when I was in Japan so I don't bother downloading them...cmmon 1,2 kb/s does not really leave me much choice.
But I would like to make one thing clear, everyone has their tastes, likes and dislikes...and some people just download a certain show not to try or just because it's popular, but because they have their reasons for being a fan of it. One of the reasons why Tsubasa is so popular because it brings Syaoran and Sakura from Card Captor Sakura once more into life...the reason why I am watching it. I don't care if it's popular or not, I have an attachment to Syaoran and Sakura since they've been one of my favorites from when I was 10 years old back in 1998. So Tsubasa has a different meaning for me, not just the crossovers of CLAMP characters...I don't really care about the new looks and plots, in fact the anime character designs are really not good....the hands and legs are too long for the body...a well noted point. So I wanted to watch Tsubasa and even though my bandwidth takes for ever to get it to me, I download it and look forward to each episode on Sundays. So those of you who think we are a bunch of bullshits for liking Tsubasa...I'd like to tell you different people like Tsubasa for different reasons. Some Tsubasa fans consider Tsubasa as one of those animes which might not be really appealing to your tastes but has some kind of charm which makes you watch it and eventually get addicted to it. Tsubasa is not just another popular anime which people watch...people watch it and thats why it's popular!
And the classics are great too and if my anime thirst was that great that any great anime appealed to me....provided that my bandwidth was good...I'd download them. Thanx to Tofusensei & interactii for all the hard work..because they have made me real happy. It's only because of Tofusensei that we are being able to watch Tsubasa Chronicle! Thanx Live Evil...U guys rock on, ouenshiteruyo! :D

Admittedly, I started joining the L-E community when I began loading ID4 onto my hard drive.
Fortunately, I'm not blind so I tend to check out other anime of interest as well, like The Snow Queen (more, MORE!! XD ), and, of course, other anime from various other groups, like Hale Nochi Guu, GaoGaiGar, etc. etc.
Hell, I started watching dubbed anime when VHS was the more popular media of choice. :P
I'd rather spend my time watching other fansubbed anime (unknown or mainstream) than waiting for just one series to complete and anxiously waiting for the next episode. ^_^
Did I mention the time I checked out Loveless and found out it was Shonen-Ai/Yaoi halfway through the first episode...? XD Freaked me out, stopped watching it, and deleted it off of my hard drive in a heart beat... o_o; lol

I guess qcing must be very fun. Yout job must rock! Getting to watch so many anime titles...(sigh..) :(
NOTE: Don't ask me why I'm sighing everyone here, if your bandwidth is some MB, you'd never understand what I have to go through..... :'( :'( :'(
-
can't you get an upgrade or something??
-
can't you get an upgrade or something??
I could only wish. :'( I'd pay anything to get a nice bandwidth, anime makes my day :)...(although I haven't started earning yet ;D). The place I live is the worst place for internet & anime maniacs like me.
Would someone help me to get out of this country :'( :'( :'( :'(

I am too tired of complaining about the place I live. :( I shouldn't be saying bad stuff about it, since it's my homeland. :-[ But can't help it.....
I WOULD RATHER LIVE IN THE SAHARAS! LOL! ;D
Again, can someone get me outa this place??!! :'( :'( :'( :'(

I only come here for the older more obscure stuff like Ask Dr. Rin, etc. I feel like its actually much more valuable to sub old stuff that hasn't been done yet, because you are probably the only people doing it, and the only way that fans of that series will will ever get to see it in english. It seems silly that there are 4 or five groups subbing the exact same new series at times, but there are still some pretty decent classics out there that remain untranslated.
-
I came to L-E because of their subbing of Rose of Versailles, actually. That's a great classic series and I'm glad that it got a great subbing by L-E. And I also download some other older and/or obscure stuff here too. But, I have no problem with newer anime either, and I highly appreciate your work with Nana.
-
All in all, we should never forget about the classics that originally got us into anime. ;)
-
no you're not ;)
that's what l-e still stands for imo:decent rips of classic shows
Same here. I have watched and enjoyed some of the newer stuff here. Oh..and I didn't like SSM. It was somehow too pop and without depth. But what really brought me me here was GE 999 and other classic anime. There's so much more than pretty surface. No...I didn't see it when I was little. Thats why i want to see it now. :D
I have also found other entertaining shows like Snow Queen and Gallery Fake thanks to L-E.
-
I guess I did the opposite, I came specifically to download Yawara! (I was waiting for Live-Evil to catch up to where the VHS fansubs left because at the time I was running on dial-up), and after that I started downloading Nana because I think Live-Evil does the best job. I've never watched anything by Leiji Matsumoto though (although I think I'd like it). I guess I mainly come for the older stuff, I love classic shoujo like Rose of Versaiiles. Personally, I'd wish for more priority to go to the older titles, because they're harder to find nowadays.
-

Dont be silly. Africa is your homeland by virtue that humans evolved from H.Erectus there. But wait...Since H.Habilis came from Southern Africa....does that make Southern africa your homeland? HRMMM....the plot thickens....Nah, Im going to have to say your homeland is the Ocean, but with a slightly different chemistry than the todays. Same goes for all of us ;) :D ;D ;) :D :D :D :D :D

Okay, I didn't come here to download Tsubasa (I am not a CLAMP fan... but I have seen several of their anime and manga series, they just don't impress me that much, though I LOVE RG Veda... ornate, beautiful stuff there!). I came here to download Harlock initially... now Okay I voted... but this is why I voted... I came here to download Harlock, but I ended up downloading Rose of Versailles... and I know it's not an L-E series, but I downloaded Cutie Honey (orig) from another group. You guys have really got me into the classics, they are so much freaking fun and just great shows! They may not be as flashy and well drawn, but they have their own charm.... the colors man, the COLORS! *laughs* I don't mind people into pop culture shows, I actually sort of like some of the newer series, (and I am totally against the pop culture grain, I don't even watch TV! (aka no cable or satellite)) but I really am finding that if I give something a chance I may be suprised. I know sometimes it can be difficult to try something out of the ordinary, I am as pig-headed as they come, but I am learning that I am missing out when I think like that, so just relax and try something out, you may find out something new about yourself and your tastes in anime!

Yes I did. Unlike some mindless morons here, I actually base what I flame on what is actually said in the previous post. Upon reading this thread, I was MOST PLEASED, but upon reading ass-shit about Nana, I became Irate, and just wanted to flail my arms up and down. It vexed me that much. :o :o :o

Well, it's only YOU who seems to have a serious problem with Nana here. Go wash your brain, this is not your playground or Mama's lap for acting like a mentally retarded & spoiled brat.
Thanks for helping me to increase my posts. After Tsubasa fans had to abandon the forums, I began feeling lonely.

Obviously Tofu had an issue with it. His actions have shown how much he truly cares about Nana.

Wrong. My Brain is squeaking clean actually. I fail to see how it is ME who is spoiled, SOMEONE here needs to LEARN THEIR RANK and RESPECT THEIR SENIORS. :o :o

You Would feel lonely without your tsubasa fans...after all, said fans are nothing but a bunch of people who [CENSORED] over pics of Nekkid Sakura and friends, and without other people to [CENSORED] with online, their sickening twisted demonic online ritual of mutual [CENSORED] over said pics really cant happen as efficiently.

There is nothing seniorish about you and you've failed to convince me that you're worth respecting. I shall be ashamed of anyone who'd go into respecting such a retarded [censored] like you. I'd rather kick you around like a football. After all, what are you but a troll?

Problems with vocabulary Masa? you obviously didn't find a good word with that corrupted brain of yours for the areas with [CENSORED].

Ahem...not something I'd expect to hear from you, who just posts troll messages, nothing of any substance. For example, have you ever tried posting on the 'leeching and technical help' message board? I bet not, people need help there! But you can't cause you are disable in that respect and you're so ignorant about thses stuff and hence your posts are limited to worthless trolls.

Hey, Trolls have rights too. Just becasue we are short, cute, and have colorful hair doesn`t entitle you to walk all over us.

There is no good word one can substitute for those [CENSORED]s. Such foul acts cannot truly be expressed in words alone, and I do not wish to pollute or corrupt the younger viewers of this board with the filth that is Clamp-verts.
And No, my posts contain 55% of the USDA reccomended dosage of Ire and Chaos. You only need to read 2 to get your entires day worth of those things, aren`t I just so kind?

All in all, you just don't know anything useful to write. Better stop it before Yaoi starts with that 'you two should get married!' again.

Unless Yaoi is secretly a Voodoo priest, I`m not to worried about even the most horrifying predictions he can make actually comming to fruition.

to be honest i have never heard of tsubasa, but now i'm curious so i'll download it and see what it's about.
i know live evil from different subs but i am especially greatful for the fansubbing
of Yawara!!
i'll let you know how i liked tsubasa when i see it
(should anyone care haha)
-
You should really have an option for voting that says you came here for something else originally and don't even have a clue what Tsubasa and the other "popular" animes are about. I was going to answer this poll, but none of the options work for me. ;D
-
I guess this thread was meant for only those who watched Tsubasa Chronicle and/or Initial D.
-
I thought it was meant to bring people closer to animeclassics ;D
-
It was meant for the majority of our current leechers, that is people who leech Tsubasa and Initial D (not so current) to see if they're interested in the classics or bring them to anime classics whatever.
-
yeah, maybe;but I think that most folks who leech IniD & Tsubie are 16 year olds
& in my own experience younger folks don't even wànt to like old stuff, mainly coz...well it's old ;D
-
I'll admit that I originally found Live-Evil after a mate recommended getting Tsubasa Season 1 from here, but I've found that I prefer all the other stuff you do more than Tsubasa.
-

Tsubasa Chronicle is shorcutted as Tsubasa and I AM shortcutted as Tsubie. Where did you get the 16-year-old...you mean ppl like ME or MY AGE?
I think this guy's ready to be recruited ;D
Ready to be recruited for what?

dunno,gumboo's bitch perhaps? ;)

Enough with the trolling :(

Oh you fucker. Youve insulted my shows. I will do what i can to permanently stall 3000 leagues.
and dont fucking complain about it troll. You started this.
-
I came for Harlock and got Queen Millennia and Galaxy Express 999 as well...does that count?
yeah, maybe;but I think that most folks who leech IniD & Tsubie are 13 year olds
Edited for truth. Most 16 year olds I know prefer seinen and the classics over titles like those...then again, I'm very selective about the fans I associate with.
-
For gods sake, don't you use my nick to shorten Tsubasa Chronicle. Anyways, anyone insulting Tsubasa Chronicle, you may go to hell. Initial D is not my thing too, so don't associate Initial D with Tsubasa Chronicle. Fans of either shows is unlikely to be fans of both. You even tried them? Bet ye don't even know your reasons for not liking either/both. Initial D, for example, is not my thing cause I don't give damn to car racing. I love classics too, otherwise only being a Tsubasa fan wouldn't be an enough reason for me to join L-E---knowing that what they sub with sincerity is actually much different than shows like Tsubasa Chronicle in general. >_>
-Tsubasa
-
. You even tried them? Bet ye don't even know your reasons for not liking either/both.
Please don't think of me as some ignorant kid who can't assess his own logic. I know exactly what I think of both and why.
Initial D: I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10. I enjoyed it but couldn't stand the art style. On top of that, like yourself, I'm not a sports fan so it didn't really pique my interest.
Tsubasa Chronical: 6/10. I tried to find this interesting, I really did, but I simply couldn't. I stuck with it for nearly 10 eps but it never grabbed me and pulled me in like it does with so many others. It's enjoyable, don't get me wrong, it's just not something I'd watch for any other reason than to kill time.
I wasn't trying to insault anyone, it just seems to me that both these shows find their niche in the 12-15 shonen demographic. Perhaps the 16 and 17 yeard olds I hang out with just have taste beyond their years...but I won't say for sure because saying it one way or another is just me setting myself up for a bashing from those with differing opinions.

I think that one has to be a little mature to like the classics, just like cinema or music. A 13 year old boy prefers action and colorful anime with a simple plot...
I prefer other CLAMPs series rather than Tsubasa... I feel as if they just use the characters from other series to avoid creating new ones as charismatic as them ::)
Anyway, I love CLAMPs series, it's just that I prefer their old style :D

goodness, people seem to fight a lot here. ^_^;
i'd just like to say that i began watching live-evil fansubs of GE999 on youtube, after i somehow stumbled upon it (i don't even remember how) and then decided, "hey, you know what? i should go download bittorrent and do this the right way!"
i do believe i've only known of reiji matsumoto's existance since around the beginning of 2007. and oddly enough, the old Harlock and GE999 shows have now permanently affected me, to the point where i become excessively giddy when you guys release a new episode, to the point where my drawings are starting to reflect matsumoto-style (the eyes! oh, the EYES!), to the point where i am literally fantasizing about meeting matsumoto and telling him to his face, in Japanese, that out of every manga style in the world, his is the one i want to emulate...
anyway, you get the idea.
the classics are incredible. i haven't gotten around to torrenting the others, it's mostly been matsumoto stuff for me, but wow, you guys. i never even watched card captor sakura/tsubasa. to be honest, newer anime makes me want to cry (not because it's bad, it's just the way they've produced it, it's not cel-painted anymore).
but your classic subs make me wanna cry in a good way.
anyway. haha. i sound like an idiot.
um... thanks for the subs! haha. ;D

Well i dunno... myself and my daughter (who's 10) have been watching and worshipping Rose of Versailles, and we were both disappointed by the quality of the Candy Candy movie but we're both fans of the show. (Now there's a series you should go for! So far i haven't found any torrents for it...)
Kids are young, not stupid, and when i and i was youth i developed many weird and idiosyncratic interests which remain with me still (pulp magazines, jazz, silent movies, weird jap shit...).
Thus, i have raised my daughter to be a geek and an excellent geek she is, even if she doesn't like Matsumoto's style. Ah, well...
MORE CLASSICS! say i, and peace all you bickering peoples, why so hating on differing opinions? Face to face you'd all be a lot politer. I hope.

Um, where do I fit? I migrated here for Ask Dr. Rin! (not a popular one nor a classic one), but I haven't really looked at much else... :-\

I couldn't have said it better myself...well, except I've been a Harlock fan for a few years, and I do watch Tsubasa (though I'm growing a bit weary of where the story's going)...so keep producing the classics if you can! I'm eager for more Queen Millennia...I'm not aware of any classics that might be good to sub, but after watching Rose of Versailles, if you guys watch something and approve of it, I'll trust your opinions!

not just anime, the same goes for movies and animation in general (books are out of the question) and this does not go only for 13 year olds
Problem was we were too young to really appreciate the classics back then and now we're too mature to like the new series. A proof that the older series were overall more sophisticated for the age group they targetted. Fortunately the cartoons till the 90s were better and this is not subjective. Sure a kid will find any cartoon great but the cartoons back then had more quality
I dont blame the younger viewers. I was the same in their age. But the younger ones with the Internet are more lucky than we were since they can pick any show they like and enjoy it much more. They just need the right guidance.

Dare I say it? I've never seen an episode of Tsubasa. I came because of YUA and Shion no Ou.

Ahhh ... these Girls of Classic Anime (http://teucom.net/netpix/Always_a_Woman.mp4) ... (rightclick, save, enjoy...)
-
Started with ROV & stayed for Tsubasa & Daddy Long Legs & now I'm back for KOR. I love Vintage Anime.
-
Well, I didn't come for Tsubasa. I tried Rose of Versailles (a childhood favourite), liked what you did with it, then came back for KOR, and now hunting out as much older stuff as I can get my hands on.

I originally came for ID: 4th stage, but then i decided to check out Yawara and got instantly hooked on it. I was a little sad when it got licensed because i doubt the subs will be of the same quality as L-E's. I also got into Harlock and Death note. Now I am avidly awaiting the newest releases of Shion no Ou & Daughter of 20 Faces. Thank you L-E for continuing to bring quality anime and quality subs.

I only came here for 3000 Leagues In Search Of Mother
-
I really love all the awesome anime. I mean a lot of it has a plot that isn't predictable. Its animation is old style too which is very nice I really love it.
Thanks for breaking the mold and doing the awesome classics!

I came here I think for Little Princess Sara, stayed for The Snow Queen and 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother, then got side tracked to Shion no Ou, Daughter of Twenty Faces, and Trapp Family Story . . .
Some of the new styles have nice things about them, but I don't mind older. My first anime was made in the eighties. And art style means nothing without good characterization and plot. As for slower story pacing, well, you have to fit everything including pacing to the story itself and do what makes sense for what you want to tell or show, but sometimes you're just in the mood for a story that takes it's time. At least that's the way I am.
In short, thank you for subbing anime that otherwise wouldn't get much notice. You are appreciated:)

Thought I might join in.
I came for the Leiji.
I left with the Leiji.
And I came back for the Leiji.
*evil smile to self* I guess I could check out the other series ... as long as it doesn't rot my brain cells ^^

I couldn't use any of the choices because I've been looking for classic anime before Tsubasa Chronicles. [:janfynette]
