General Forum / Let Us Hear About Your Fansubbing Service Time
« on: November 19, 2017, 03:38:32 am »
First of all, let me apologize if there is already a thread like this here. I'm not going to bother weeding through 14 pages.  :P Anyway, for all you subbers out there, please let the rest of the interwebs know how long you've been subbing now. I know some of you are approaching or have approached pretty impressive milestones.

As for me, I've been subbing as a part of Live-eviL for over 9 years now. Doesn't seem that long, but it's the truth. I'll reach my 10 year anniversary as part of the group next March. In regards to subbing in total, been doing that, on and off, for over 11 years now.  I'm what you can call an "under the radar subber", so even with my lengthy service time, I'm still not that well-known (at least I think). :o

General Forum / This is what happens when you're bored...
« on: August 31, 2016, 01:30:46 pm »
Okay, so I was pretty bored earlier, so I made this little web comic like thingy. It's nothing special, but hopefully it's not super crappy either.  ;) Well, I hope you guys enjoy it. I may make more of it, if I get bored and/or get inspired.

*Please make this a sticky thread. Thanks.*

Yeah, I know I'm jumping the gun here a bit, but I though I would create this now to give people time to post their thoughts and etc and figure out what they want to say. As we all know, real life (offline priorities) can get in the way sometimes.  ;) Anyway, as you may have guessed already, we'll be posting our thoughts, feelings, memories, and etc about our dear departed friend, CP, here. Anyone can post in this thread. I won't make any rules that limit feedback from only Live-eviL staff members or fansubbers that worked with CP throughout the years. Why? Because that wouldn't be fair. I'm sure there are some non-fansubbers out there that had the honor of getting to know CP and have some fond memories about him.

Okay, I guess it's only fitting that I start this off, since I created this thread. I'll try not to make a wall of text.  :P

I knew CP for around eight years before his unexpected passing. I first got to know him a short while after joining Live-eviL over eight years ago. The first time I talked to him, he came off as a geniunely nice guy with a passion for old school/underappreciated anime. What left a really good impression about him after our first chat was he was so humble and friendly. He was a prime example of the term "nice guy", IMHO. Always willing to chat it up, joke around, give advice, listen to what you had to say, willing to help out... the list goes on and on. I don't think I ever saw him mad in all the years I knew him. He was always so positive, happy, and laid back. It honestly rubbed off on you, whether you liked it or not. His "positive aura" effected many people in good ways. You can ask anyone who knew him and I'm sure they would agree to this. Throughout all my years in the fansubbing scene, I've had the pleasure of getting to know and work with a lot of cool people/good subbers, but honestly, CP was the best one. No offense to the rest of you cool subbers out there, of course.  ;) CP was the total package. He was infinitely dedicated, always willing to help out in a moment's notice, never complained, worked fast and efficiently, VERY reliable, and genuinely loved fansubbing and what he did in the process. On top of that, as stated above, he was such a great guy. I was always amazed that he was the first one in our group to QC any new stuff that need it. Sometimes, I felt bad that we relied so much on him for QCing things. But of course, he never minded and was glad to help out. That was one of the many things I admired and respected about CP. He was truly a hard worker, all around. Definitely a rare breed in the fansubbing scene.

On IRC, I used to chat with him all the time. He was always happy to exchange stories and etc with me and everyone else he knew. Our conversations were always so soothing and uplifting. I always looked forward to talking to him again. CP could brighten up your day, if you were having a bad one. He was like Live-eviL's unofficial cheerleader.  ;D I wish I was able to meet CP in person before his untimely passing. I remember having several different conversations on IRC about that. He told me once, "If you're ever vacationing in Sweden, we should meet up." Of course, I said that I would, if I ever was in his neck of the woods. If I'm able to, I would like to one day go to Sweden and pay my respects at his grave. It's the least I can do for a dear friend.

Aside from being an avid fansubber, CP was an avid anime fan. I remember him always telling me things about what he was currently watching and what he wanted to watch in the future. He would somtimes ask me for advice on what to watch, which I was more than happy to give. I can remember I once asked him if he has seen the ARIA anime franchise. He told me that he hasn't yet. I remember teasing him about not having watched it yet. He told me he definitely would watch them at some point because he liked slice-of-life anime like ARIA. I wonder if he ever got a chance to watch it before he passed away. If anyone knows, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

Alright, I guess I'll wrap it up. I hope this stuff is at least somewhat interesting and/or meaningful to the rest of you.

General Forum / In honor of our dearst friend, CP
« on: August 09, 2016, 05:52:30 pm »
So I've been thinking for awhile that since the one year anniversary of the unexpected, tragic passing of our dearst friend, CP, is coming up next month, that we should do something special to honor his memory. Maybe like a special release or something. I, for one, would be very honored to be a part of something for this. Believe me, I would be more than happy and willing to do whatever is in my fansubbing power/abilities to make this happen. Anyway, I'm interested in hearing feedback on this. What do the rest of you guys and gals think about this proposition? Thanks in advance.  :)

General Forum / Happy New Year(2014)!
« on: December 31, 2013, 01:27:48 pm »
So, 2014 is nearly upon us. If you ask me, 2013 went by way too fast. I guess it's because I'm getting kinda old.  :o Anyway, I hope everyone has a good time during New Year's Day. I know I will. What do you wish to accomplish in 2014? For me, I generally don't make "New Year's resolutions", since I'm a "day to day/one thing at a time" kind of person. That being said, in 2014, I hope to become a better guesslator(trunzlator) ;) , learn (more) new things, and hopefully meet new people and do some new things. Yeah, I know this sounds so generic, but that's just how I am.  ;D

OK, you can post all your thoughts and etc about this series here. How about that awesome Cheshire cat smile, eh?  ;D

Disclaimer: This is in no way, shape, size, form, and etc meant to be a "Oh my god, look at me! I'm such a badass subber. I'm better than all of you and have leet interwebz fame and have a huge e-peen!" kind of thread. I just what honest opinions from honest, good old fansubbers.  8)

Anyway, I haven't created a new thread in these forums for quite some time now, so I decided to make a poll one. This one is for fansubbers only. In all honesty, how would you rate your fansubbing skills? I find this question rather interesting because you'll sometimes find rather intriguing responses. Plus, I get to pick your brains a bit, too.  :P Tell us which one you picked and why, please. Thanks.  :D

For me, I picked option #3: I'm pretty good, I suppose,  but always looking to make improvements. I chose this because I've been subbing for a while now, so I think I've honed my skill pretty well but not really well. Like with many things in life, there's always room for improvement.  ;)

General Forum / Merry X-mas(2010)!
« on: December 19, 2010, 02:09:25 pm »
Hello everyone, tenkenX6 here. I just wanted to wish everyone(especially all the Live-eviL group members - you all know who you are  ;) ) a merry Christmas. Yeah, I know it's 6 days early but I might not be online on the 25th, so I thought I would do this now. I, for one, will be spending time with my family and doing the usual exchanging presents and eating dinner together. Nothing really special. Pretty much the same thing like every year. Thankfully, I have Christmas day off, since my workplace is closed that day. Anyway, how will the rest of you be spending your Christmas?

General Forum / Donating money to fansub groups....good or bad?
« on: December 10, 2008, 04:56:30 am »
Alright, this is a rather controversial(maybe) topic that may lead to interesting feedback. Plus, I was bored, so I decided to make a random poll thread.  :D Anyway, select a choice and state your reason(s).

Me, personally, I think donating to fansub groups is unnecessary and honestly, dumb. EDIT: Isn't fansubbing an enjoyable hobby that  is done with no monetary gains involved? You work together with others that share similar fansubbing passions as you and produce unique works.. EDIT: You can get free web hosting and etc these days, so the "we need money to maintain the servers and pay for the bandwidth" reason doesn't apply anymore. Sure, if people are donating their private servers/trackers/bandwidth/etc, it can cost some money, but they're doing this knowing and acknowledging the costs of this process. When I see fansub groups getting lots of donations every month, I start to wonder if they're using the money for their own personal gains, i.e. - like how certain politicians do with campaign money. You know, buying things for themselves, whatever it may be. Now, I'm not trying to point fingers at anyone or anything. I just thought I would post my stance on the matter.  :)

General Forum / How much of an anime fanatic are you???
« on: May 10, 2008, 03:34:25 pm »
Alright, so I'm bored yet again and it's really early in the morning.  :D So, I decided to make this random poll thread.  As the question states, how many hours of anime do you watch in a day, generally.  For me, I watch quite a bit, I suppose.  It really depends on a person's opinion of what "quite a bit" is, though.  :P Anyways, I watch about 2-4 hours of anime each day without fail.  Sometimes more and sometimes less, depending on my mood and how busy I am.  However, I've been known to go on binges and watch over 10 hours in a single day for consecutive days in a row.  :D

General Forum / The Game of Shiritori
« on: April 09, 2008, 11:43:01 am »
OK, so I'm bored.  Which leads me to do random stuff like this. :D In this thread, we will be playing a Japanese word game called "Shiritori".  In this game, the players will say a new word that starts with the previous words last "kana" (i.e. - the word "sakura". The "ra" part is the final kana.).  The rules are quite simple.  They go like this:

1) Only nouns can be used.

2) Words may not be repeated.

3) A person who uses a word that ends with the kana "N" automatically loses, since there are no words that begin with that kana.

A more detailed explanation of the game can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiritori .  Unfortunately, if you don't know Japanese very well or not at all, this game most likely will not work out for you. ;) Make sure to either make the last kana bold, change the color, add quotation marks or etc, so people don't get confused and/or things don't get mixed up.  Well, since I started this thread, I'll go first.....
