Title: VOLTRON comes to real life
Post by: teucom on June 21, 2008, 01:12:53 pm
Business News... Four leading japanese robot technology manufacturers form a new joint business under the name ...
"VOLTRON Incorporated"!!

Does this name ring a bell? Remember the 80s anime show "Voltron - Defender of the Universe"? Hardly a coincidence, but more prove of the fact that certain shows fans finally arrived in upper management :)

The new industry conglomerate wants to defend the japanese robot market against rising competitors, mainly against the evil South Korea which turned the hunt for new technology into a state legislation aiming to put a robot in every household by 2020...

The companies - Tokyo's ZMP Inc., Nagoya's Business Design Laboratory Co., Osaka's Vstone Co. and Fukuoka's Tmsuk - say that new South Korean robot legislation passed earlier this year compelled them to form the "Association for market creation of the future generation robots" to cooperate in research, development and marketing.

After a decade of working in isolation, Japanese robot startups now need a broader, more-agressive front to push products to mass market, said Yoichi Takamoto, Tmsuk CEO and chair of the newly formed group.

That's interesting because it wasn't called Voltron in Japanese!
