Welcome to the 3rd year of the ongoing YUA Full Throttle release!
My what a long running series... :D

2
Just curious - is there a reason why you dropped the karaoke in the opening, other then getting the eps out faster?

3
I can try... But I'm at a loss for why anyone would ever do that... You can just letterbox it if you want it to be 4:3...

The overall idea was how to make the entire series have same format if one wishes so.

If you letterbox wide screen eps you also shrink the hard subs - they may get very small on a 4:3 screen. For example we've got an older 20" 4:3 lcd tv mounted under the ceiling of our bedroom ... letterbox or zoom a 16:9 show is no problem with external or dvd subs which can be set to a readable size. Fixed subs are often hard to read when letterboxed.

Thats why it is a good Idea to keep the hard subs in the center. I took eps 16 and 17 and watched them zoomed 4:3, I think both have about no more than 10 or 15  one liners each which are outside 4:3, the rest ist already fine as it is.

Well maybe we should buy a new screen :-).

it doesn't make a lot sense to me to just switch after the first half of a series from 4:3 to a anamorphic source instead of just keeping the same resolution until the end.
May I suggest to place the hard subs 4:3 area safe.

So everyone who wants to watch/burn the series in same 4:3 format may just do so by using crop/zoom or centered pan&scan mode on the new episodes. The material seems to be mostly 4:3 safe for broadcast anyway.

Thanks, so now I have to debug both my laptop and our home media server, both decided to playback mono for no apparent reason... grmbl

Younger-Sister already ordered the R2 DVD sets in Kobe. About the widescreen redo subject, how about releasing the unformatted basic subs separately once the series is done, or do you generally avoid that because of pirate dealers?

6
Is it correct that Eps 16/17 have 2 ch audio encoding, but its actually only in mono?

Don't worry about Dirty Pair TV, just check animesuki for a high quality version since ACR are releasing it now.
Thanks, but,

- the Encoding is NOT very HQ... and because of certain same bad frames and artefacts I think someone just reencoded the E-D softsub release with messed-up 24/30 framerate and added hard subs, which are...

- ...again, word for word the same old 1995 VHS fansubs, they didnt even bother to retime or reformat these so its very obvious they used the same .srts as found in the E-D softsub release.
Oh yes, they switched the opening lyrics (english) with the jap/romajii ones as in Ep#02 .srt ...
...and finally, altered the translation copyright/credits.

Does not meet standards as seen here.

Business News... Four leading japanese robot technology manufacturers form a new joint business under the name ...
"VOLTRON Incorporated"!!

Does this name ring a bell? Remember the 80s anime show "Voltron - Defender of the Universe"? Hardly a coincidence, but more prove of the fact that certain shows fans finally arrived in upper management :)

The new industry conglomerate wants to defend the japanese robot market against rising competitors, mainly against the evil South Korea which turned the hunt for new technology into a state legislation aiming to put a robot in every household by 2020...

The companies - Tokyo's ZMP Inc., Nagoya's Business Design Laboratory Co., Osaka's Vstone Co. and Fukuoka's Tmsuk - say that new South Korean robot legislation passed earlier this year compelled them to form the "Association for market creation of the future generation robots" to cooperate in research, development and marketing.

After a decade of working in isolation, Japanese robot startups now need a broader, more-agressive front to push products to mass market, said Yoichi Takamoto, Tmsuk CEO and chair of the newly formed group.

Read all about it in your favorite wall street magazine, or here...

Well how about this classic, truly snappy titled police series...

Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo
(This Is the Police Station in Front of Kameari Park in Katsushika Ward)

Short: Kochikame

Kochikame takes place in the present day, in and around a neighborhood police station (kōban) in the downtown part of Tokyo, and revolves around the misadventures of a middle-aged cop, Kankichi Ryotsu (Ryo-san).

Little-sister recorded some episodes accidently.
Kei sat staring at it with one raised eyebrow which for me counts as a sign for that special quality.

Come on guys, its only about 360 eps and two movies so far...

Im satisfied with the 4:3 version, Im just asking this because I'm curious about the technical issue :)

When you encode the 16:9 version of a show with the same vertical resolution as the 4:3 version, cant you just reuse the 4:3 subs with a fixed horizontal offset added so the subs stay centered?

We like to watch things on big screen instead of a pc monitor; and unfortunately many encodes with hardsubs use way to small or otherwise hard to read subs for that purpose (think of us short sighted elderly people out here ;D) or dont respect the legacy overscan area of most tv displays. With softsubs that problem does not occur on standalone players...

For example, the font size and type used in the l-E Under Arrest hardsubbed releases is generally a good choice; but the safe area is not respected so that the whole picture must be shrunk to keep the subs (especially the additional and/or karaoke ones) on the screen, which is impossible when using a standalone player, if you dont want to reencode...... otherwise IT WOULD BE PERFECT (hint hint :) )

We respect and understand LEs decision not to give out .srt files--- there are to many greedy people on eBay...

Well theres always enough anime and dorama on the shelf, but with really *hot* weather for a week now here in germany theres no way for us trading a warm summer day/evening at the river banks for several hours of anime in a darkened room. For satisfactional otaku results from us, try this poll when the cold dark rainy season start again :)
