Title: Quality Checkers Needed
Post by: digitize on September 01, 2003, 05:46:44 pm
Live-eviL is recruiting some Quality Check (QC) staff.  QC staff watch an episode (before it's released to the public) and look for: timing, editing, typesetting, and encoding mistakes, with emphasis on editing (i.e. one should be well versed in English).  If you're interested come on irc (here is a guide to get onto irc easily, for those of you who are new to it: http://users.skynet.be/testing/Smircguides/Smircguide3.html - our channel is: #live-evil and the server is: irc.enterthegame.com) and msg, tanman, tofu, or myself, or any op if none of use are on, and say that you're interested in joining the QC team, thanks.

I've been on the QC team for a little while now, it's really good fun and it feels nice to know that you helped make sure that the released eps might just be that little bit nicer than they would have been otherwise.

Stop by on IRC and have a chat with digitize, tanman or Tofusensei they should be able to help you out.  You'll probably be given an informal test (I don't think there's an official one yet) and then be set to work and join a couple of the QC teams.

Other than the other mistakes in your post, do I win for spotting the guy who spell checks but doesn't re-read before posting?  =D

I like to apply for a position on your QC staff.

I tried last night to talk to someone of the named persons that are labelled as spoke persons on the irc.

I shall try again shortly.

Also I saw a message about Distro's, could someone enlighten me more on this subject?

I need the info for the channel to QC etc, please PM me that information.

I was approved by Tofusensei, you can check it with him.

I'm assigned to the Rumic Theather 2nd season and the last few of the current and upcoming eps. but I can't start unless I know where to go and get the stuff.

Sincerely,

Hello. Interested in becoming a QC. Are there any places left needing to be filled?
Title: Re: Quality Checkers Needed
Post by: Spymon on September 27, 2003, 02:03:23 pm
There might be some spaces to help out on certain series and almost definitely for the drama projects.  Best bet is to talk to one of the friendly ops on IRC and that can kick start things.

What kind of skills are required to do QC work? I have a general familiarity with encoding programs like "virtualdub" and "flaskMPEG"... would there be a tutorial involved, etc...?
Title: Re: Quality Checkers Needed
Post by: Spymon on October 04, 2003, 09:00:19 am
To QC you need a great eye for detail and be happy to be critical and not be afraid to offend people.  In other words you look at every part of an episode before it's released and look for errors or things that don't work, type it up in good old-fashioned US English and the relevant people get to work on it.  We usually work in dedicated 3 person teams so no serious errors slip through.

I think there might be a test in the near future is tanman, myself and a few others get around to it.

I'd like to help out with timing and QC'ing, but didn't find anyone on the channel to speak to (I messaged a few, but didn't get replies). Is there a time or day that's better to find ops? How should I recognize/contact them?   (Sorry if these are idiot questions!)

i'd like to hear the answers to the above question too since i'm not always able to be online.

also i'm wondering what the load might be like? ie: how many eps per day/week type thing :) i'd love to help where possible!!!

ohhh and i can make up spiffy QC documents/tables that ppl can fill out if they find problems etc.....haha yes~ i'm a crazy QA tester

Post by: Spymon on September 17, 2004, 12:41:47 am
At the moment there's not  been many eps up for qc but if you've seen the way live-evil releases you have to be on your toes and spend a lot of time on IRC.

Best people to talk to are the people on irc with the @ by their name.  However, some of us have more say than others so it's probably better to ask someone like Tofusensei if he's about.

i guess we should create a email contact with a 'real' person behind who can deal about that .
Also regarding QC i guess you can decide about it .
Regarding distro well we should talk about this with Vash ( & me  [smiley=cupra.gif]

hallo! I've been to the channel a few times and havne't seen the right people online I guess I'm just on at the wrong times (I work, and can only go on IRC a few hours a night on weeknights)

I would really like to help w/QC.  On top of helping out a team that I like and learning more about what goes into subbing anime, it would give me a chance to watch some anime that I wouldn't normally try out.  I would say I have pretty good english skills (in university, NOT an english major~ but still).

(my nick on IRC: starrynights ---or starrynites...something like that =P)
i don't want to post my e-mail here so if possible PM me here or i'll try again over the weekend on the channel i guess :)

Edit hehe...oops i already got a reply XD

I am available for QC of Initial D.
I am a native English speaker, with a solid Toyota background.
I am still learning Japanese, I can not translate yet...

What time zone are most of the crew on? How important is this?

I am GMT+9

Am sorry but I have alot of people come and ask me to join so that they can just do ID4.

We do alot of other show's also that needs to get QC'ed not just ID4!!!!!!!
Title: Re: Quality Checkers Needed
Post by: 3sgte on February 07, 2005, 09:57:44 am
Initial D is the only one that I would consider myself qualified to do QC on.

Title: Re: Quality Checkers Needed
Post by: angelan on February 09, 2005, 09:44:42 am
what is it about ID4 that makes you qualified for QCing it but not qualified for QCing other shows?

other than......"cuz i don't want to QC other shows..."

as long as you have a good hold on english, don't speed read through subtitles (ie: catch typos and grammatical mistakes) you're pretty much qualified.  You don't even have to know japanese!  To join the QC team for JUST ID4 is joining for the wrong reasons....you're not really joining the "team".
Title: Re: Quality Checkers Needed
Post by: 3sgte on February 09, 2005, 01:06:28 pm
Other than:

1. I know all of the backstory, at least with reference to the anime. I would like to get in to the manga, but the Japanese is just too difficult for me.

2. For 12 years I used to work on Toyotas and Lexus. (Including AE86s)

3. I bought an AE86 with a blown motor and rebuilt the car. I drove the car for about a year. Unfortunately circumstances forced me to sell it.

Regarding other anime, I must be realistic. I don't have as much time as I used to before I had kids. The time and effort to get involved (learn backstory) would be significant, and not something I feel I could make a promise to the group about.  I will not promise something if I cannot follow through.

Hello,

I'm in the channel right now and would like to apply for this position. I live in Michigan and just finished taking some english and compisition classes.

One of the things we did was edit each other's work. Please let me know if I can help.

Eh - I just chatted with an op as well - looks like you guys got what you need, but I like your Tsubasa sub pretty well and I don't mind giving back.

I'm an excellent proofreader and a top-notch speller.  Fluency in grammar and syntax as well as a detail-oriented personality make me well-suited to proofreading and copy-related tasks.  I can't transLATE but I can transCRIBE... I dunno if raw data entry enters into the picture, but that doesn't bother me either.

*shrug*

Contact me if it suits you; otherwise, I'm happy leeching.  ;-)

Cheers,

ZD

I would love to help you guys with Quality Checking. I always watch Initial D, and the quality of it is always great, but I haven't watched any other series by L-E. I would like to do ID4 as I would watch it anyway, but I have an open mind to anime, so any series you need help with I would do gladly. I'll be hanging around the irc channel looking for someone to talk to about it. If I'm not there, email me at NiK_0_0@hotmail.com.

Hope I can help!

I would like to do Initial D, but I don't mind, I'll do any series, TC sounds interesting. What time are most of the ops on the mIRC channel?

If you're still looking for QC-ers (which it appears you are), I would love to help out.  I have no experience with fansubbing, but I currently have a lot of time on my hands.  I have also played around with programs such as Subtitle Workshop and SubStation Alpha, although I doubt those programs would be needed for QC.  Regardless, if you're interested, I can be reached at barbie21_27 [at] hotmail.com.

Is there anyone in particular that I should be speaking to in the IRC channel?  And should I message him/her?  (Just trying to be extra careful, since your rules explicitly state not to message ops without permission.)
Also, just for the record, while I have used IRC before, I'm not too familiar with the various commands and such, so I'm sorry (in advance) if I screw up.

I have minions everywhere. This idea of Tsubasa's minionship was created by Mamo-chan though, not me. A couple of people have identified themselves as my minion in the nOObs thread, so it's pretty common as you can see. Nothing bad with being my minion. Whether there is anything good in it...well I leave it to you to decide that.

Btw, we're still qc heavy for a while, so don't forget to check back about a week later.

Hello all Live-Evil staff. I am interested in joining the Live-Evil team as a QCer. I have attempted to contact you via your IRC server but have as of yet been unable to reach you. Not to worry though I will continue to try over the course of the next few days. I would simply like to leave you a message here if I am ultimately unable to reach you there.

A little about myself. I am currently a double major of Linguists and Japanese Studies at the University of Hawai'i. I have already had two years worth of education in the Japanese language and am currently on a study abroad program to Tokyo for a year to further strengthen my skills. I am not yet fluent in the language but I am getting better and better everyday.

I intend to apply for the position of QCer and become more familiar with Live-Evil and the process of fansubbing with hopes that when my Japanese skills become strong enough I may be able to take up work as a translator. I have no preference on what you would have me QC I merely would like the opportunity to help out with your projects and to have more contact with the Japanese language.

Well that about sums it up. I will continue to try to contact you on the IRC server. If you wish to contact me you may do so at this address. Kauhl@hawaii.edu

If you do decide you have no need of me that is quite alright and I thank you for your time.

Hello L-E staff.

I'd like to lend my skills for QC as well. A little bit about me, I haven't been QC'd any formal shows yet. I'm actually working with a fansub group that is just starting, and would like to immerse myself in the world of QC. I am a huge fan of L-E, and have watched many of your shows.

I've known one of your members, gumbaloom, for a long while..we go way back to the old days of PGSM, even before then. I'm my real life, I actually do quality control for a living, so I'm trained to spot, see, read and hear errors. I tried to get gumba's attention on IRC, but I'm pretty sure he's asleep.  :D

Any who, I have read both stickies on "what to read before applying" and the code of conduct. You can contact me at iDuckie@gmail.com.

Thank you for your time!  :)

Hello everybody. I've recently joined the Live-eviL community in hopes of trying out fansubbing, and I thought that being a Quality Checker was probably the best place to start. I have never done any fansubbing work before, but I am genuinely interested in starting. I am currently a 19 year old college student studying Computer Engineering and Computer Science.

I believe that I was supposed to either make a post here or chat on IRC. I'm not sure when to log on to IRC to talk to people, nor am I sure exactly who I talk to. If somebody could guide me in what I should do to apply, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

This thread is a little dated (last reply in early April). I was wondering if QC's were still needed, or perhaps editors. I can do either, so.. I just need to know who to talk to. There's a few people with @'s in front of their name, but I'd rather not have to hassle everyone. So, names would be good, or a PM or.. well, something.  8)

Thanks!
