Nah, it's running fine (I just need to get a power supply with higher wattage to stop its whining... D: ).

This problem isn't really that big of a deal; it's just annoying since I can't play videos. XP The system is due for a reformat, anyway.

Hmm... At first I thought it was just the MKV codec was bad, but then the AVIs stopped working. Well, if you can't help, that's alright. :-\

It all really started since I tried viewing the Half-Life 2 trailers on Steam's own media player. I'm guessing that it is the culprit, but I'll just try going indepth with it and get to the bottom of it myself.

Thanks for trying, though, Tsubasa.

And sorry for the trouble, b-sama. ^^;

mamochan: I tried them both already. I think it's just Steam Media Player just screwing up everything. :-\

Tsubasa: I've only messed with my computer hardware-wise. Just doing minor things like cleaning it out, re-organizing the wires, etc.

How many more posts are going to appear before I get to post this? ^^; (Supposed to be the last reply)

Am currently running on these specs:

2.25GHz 3000+ AMD Athlon 64
2 GB DDR RAM
Windows XP Pro SP 2

Only known codecs that I had installed are the ones in the Matroska pack, really. It started up freezing on me when I first tried to run a media through Steam (Valve). Come to think of it, it may be caused by that... Hmm...

:edit:

Oh yeah, I've also tried downloading CCCP, but it yielded the same results.

Other players that I had tried are WMP 10, WMP 6, and BS Player.

Leeching & Technical Problems / Playing videos freezes my computer
« on: June 07, 2006, 08:06:48 pm »
I have a straight-out problem with playing videos—any videos. Everytime I do it would start up the player, then it freezes and gives me fruity-colored vertical lines on the screen. I'm thinking that the problem may either be from the codecs I've installed on my computer or that my computer may not be getting enough juice (power wattage) to play videos (which shouldn't be since I've watched Ultraman just fine not too long ago).

I'm thinking that it may just be from codec conflicts, so I would like to know if there was a way to clear out specific (or all) installed codecs and re-install them? I want to see if there's any other way than to reformat my system. ^^;

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Matroska pack to no avail... :-\

Additional feedbacks/comments are welcomed.

It probably did at one time, but the last I heard of LDs was back in 5th grade when my teacher showed us Michael Jackson's Thriller. XD

DVDs now are quite cheap. ^_^ The old cheap ones goes for $7.99 and most of the new releases are only $19.99. Hell, Papa John's gave out free DVD movies at one time. That's how I got Weekend with Bernie 2. ;D

Astroboy was probably originally $60 when it came out, but it's been a while since its release. :P

...Late 90's I was rather active in a club that made and showed fansubs, then in 2000 I was in an active digisub group (even though I didn't actually do anything), since then I've been really into it.
Just out of curiousity, are you beginning to learn some tools of the trade now or are you still just "supervising" them?

Admittedly, I started joining the L-E community when I began loading ID4 onto my hard drive.

Fortunately, I'm not blind so I tend to check out other anime of interest as well, like The Snow Queen (more, MORE!! XD ), and, of course, other anime from various other groups, like Hale Nochi Guu, GaoGaiGar, etc. etc.

Hell, I started watching dubbed anime when VHS was the more popular media of choice. :P

I'd rather spend my time watching other fansubbed anime (unknown or mainstream) than waiting for just one series to complete and anxiously waiting for the next episode. ^_^

Did I mention the time I checked out Loveless and found out it was Shonen-Ai/Yaoi halfway through the first episode...? XD Freaked me out, stopped watching it, and deleted it off of my hard drive in a heart beat... o_o; lol

Depends on which type of processor you are looking for.

Athlon 64 +2800  -  ~$110.00
Athlon 64 +3800  -  ~$279.00
Athlon 64 X2 +3800 Dual Core  -  ~$293.00
Note: Dual Core processors are usually best if you tend to run many programs at a time. Having more than one processor sharing loads minimizes the chance of a slowdown in the system. For example, one can be encoding a video while simultaneously doing something else without having to worry much.

My first Anime experience...geez, it was so long ago... ^^; Most of the cartoons I've remembered watching were in the U.S. starting with Robotech, Voltron, Technoman, Speed Racer, Thundercats, etc.

Before my family moved here, the things I mostly remembered were the Famicom (and Disk System), the 3-D goggles, and the revolver guncon. XD

However, I do remember watching Doraemon and a few Miyazaki films, like My Neighbor Totoro.

Actually, you'll be surprised at how cheap some hard drives are nowadays. ^_^ Western Digital is always a good brand to buy, and here are some 120GB hard drives for around $60 online.

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php?page_id=11&form_keyword=western+digital+120GB+hard+drive&rd=1

Pricegrabber.com is a pretty good site for searching up prices. :)

And, of course, NewEgg.com usually have decently priced items up on the front page, like a 320GB HDD for ~$114 and a 250GB HDD going for ~$75. ;D

She's just playing around with you. :P Tofu is alright.

If anything were to happen to Tofu, it would have been posted up in the forums to notify us about it. That and it would have probably been announced on Live-Evil's main page.

Anyway, I'll just go on to make some pasta to eat now.

I have about 60GB of unlicensed anime stored on my hard drive. Also have some anime movies not released here yet. It includes one of my current favorite movies: Ultraman. :P Yes, I'm lazy to import movies. XD

I'm not even counting the ones recorded on CDs in the past... D:

Should we make a digital shrine for all the lovely L-E staff? What does your Magic 8-Ball say about that, huh!? :P

Sacrificial offerings is an optional addition.
