Yes? Great!
No? Great!
If you have your computer on 24/7 because you are an internet/anime/chat/pr0n junkie or because you can't find the OFF button anymore, please read on.
I have been donating my computer's spare cycles to a good cause. I'm having my compute crunch millions of numbers while I sleep, eat, shower, walk about, watch anime, translate anime, think about sex, chat on IRC/AIM/ICQ etc.
I think you get my drift. Anyways, I'm having my computer fold proteins. What's the point you ask? Well by doing thing we might find cures for all sorts of diseases that are not curable right now. It's for a good cause, and my computer stays on all night anyways. The software that does all this for me sits next to my clock in the system bar and crunches numbers silently, always yielding to other programs so that they may take me to the WWW super information highway or show me anime.
If you are interested in helping science leap ahead, please go to
http://folding.stanford.edu/ and download the appropiate client for you. You can read more about the project there as well.
If you want, you can join the team I started with my friend. Join if you <3 food, just like we do.
Our team ID is 38287, that's what you have to put in your client if you wish to <3 food with us. We fold proteins because we <3 food.
Impressive fact: the power of distributed computing is larger than that of any supercomputer in the whole world.
