Title: New series suggestion thread
Post by: plasmacutter on February 18, 2006, 07:57:54 am
Currently the only group doing sailor stars is doing a horrid job at it. (as in a compiled mplayer cvs wont play it  :'( ).

Considering the abysmal quality of the encoding from said nameless group and the fact that sailor stars will never be allowed on american shores by decree of the great butcher eisner, I formally request this group, which i've considered experts and subbing classics for years, take up the project.

WELL. Its like this. There may have been plans to infact, do exactly as you said, for exactly the reasons you said.
However, L-E has very few staff for the amount of projects we have. Yeah, I'td be awsome if we could toss ANOTHER series. Issue remains STAFF. Now, I know your intentions are really good here, but don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

The people over at Sailor Moon Center are currently in the process of buying the R2 disks of Stars as well, so there will be at least two groups working on it.  Just FYI.  ;)

HRM. Assuming they do good work, everything should be taken care of by them, then.

Personally I wouldn't really support the Sailor Moon Center because they're releasing DVD rips of licensed shows and they released rips of all the US released Sailor Moon DVDs.  Since Sailor Moon isn't licensed anymore they could fansub it themselves but I just don't think it's right to do straight rips of the US DVD's.  I'm personally buying all the R2 DVD's and would like to do a fansub of the whole series but haven't been able to find a translator.

You are getting your wish... In a SPECIAL EDITION at that! :D Sailor Moon never sounded better! If you haven't seen it, check out the thread New Series: Sailor Stars - REMASTERED!

Thank you and I hope you enjoy it.

Hello, I'm ALMOSt a newbie in this fansubbing business.  I know this is stupid question, but since I never had to bother about regions...whats this Region 1 and Region 2 thing?  Is there something known as 'region free'? ???  How is ripping from a US DVD legally different from ripping from a R2 DVD? ???
Title: Re: request: sailor stars.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvd_regions

Region codes are a stupid idea and are just a minor annoyance.

And yes there are DVD's that are "region free" and players that are "region free".

Now what this means in the context of fansubs is, a fansub group will not sub shows that have been licensed and released in their native country.  So when an Anime is licensed and released in the US, it is a region 1 disc.  Distributing those is a violation of US copyright, and would get the group in big trouble.

Now Japan is in DVD region 2.  Distributing those is a violation of Japanese copyright, but the companies don't seem to care much.  Because if they wanted, they could push the issue under the Berne Convention.

Now the UK is also in region 2, so if an Anime was licensed in the UK, any fansub group based out of there would also drop those projects.

So in short region codes are intended to hinder people from importing DVD's from other regions instead of getting the release that was intended for their region.

I hope I explained that well.

Well, anyone is free to make a suggestion of an anime series that we should translate, but you have to realize that the group only translates animes that at least a few of the members have an interest in doing, so I'm not sure you should get your hopes up too high.

Uhh we don't sub licensed series.

Entethegame rules strictly prohibit the subbing of licensed series and it's against fansubbing ethics to do so

i have a suggestion for a fansub, wasn't sure where to put it though ???. My suggestion is episodes 3 & 4 of the Queen Emeraldas OVA released in 1998, as only the first two episodes were licensed and released in the west.

Direct your comments to the Matsumoto team (drop Yaoiboy / Masakari) a line and they'll take it in to consideration.

And are you SURE episodes 3 and 4 are unlicensed.

Title: Re: can i request this?
Post by: tekkaman_x on July 23, 2006, 10:18:13 pm
i'm pretty sure that eps 3 & 4 are unlicensed, this is what i found on the wiki for it:

"Queen Emeraldas' first two episodes were produced by Studio OLM and licensed for American distribution by ADV Films, being one of their earlier releases on the DVD format. Those two episodes also have regular runs on the Action Channel. In Japan, the remaining two episodes were produced by Multi Access Company and were released the following year after the initial two, indicating that a separate contract (that is not yet forthcoming) would be required for anyone to license the concluding episodes of the story outside of Japan."

Everywhere else with info on the OVA (that I found) only mentions the first two episodes, except for Anime News Network which states that although there were four eps in total, only the first two were licensed by ADV.

This has already been discussed in Matsumoto. I believe we decided to add it to our wish list. Someone did some research and found absolutely nothing to hint that 3 & 4 is licensed or is likely to be licensed in the near future.

However, I haven't seen anything more discussed in recent weeks. It may have gotten pushed to one side in the effort to crank out episodes of our more active series. (I know I forgot.  :o ) Why not give YaoiBoy or Masakari a pm, let them know your interest and find out what the current status is?

We are more likely to start doing real work on this if people keep reminding us.

Okay Okay Okay......A few things here...

A)We Need Raws. Its a wish within a dream until we get some Rawz. Either You Provide them, or provide a place to get them, or the captial to buy a nice DVD source, or Convince Gumbaloom et. al. to Front the $.

B)It would be MUCH faster than Harlock, becasue there would be no Audio-Ubering. There is a Backlog of 2 harlock eps due to Audio Backlogging currently.  >:( >:( >:( >:( To Yaoiboy....

C)Emereldas is Blonde....Um..... :-[ :'( I seriously don`t get the attraction to her stories barring extensive participation by Harlock and friends. Maetel is the only exception to the Blondes are ugly rule, becasue of the 345 times Tetsuro said her name inside 3 scenes in 2 movies... Anyone whos name is worthy of being shouted that many times in a row HAS To have SOME hawtness... either that ot Tetsuro is REALLY desperate.... or has a mother con...I dunno dude...

D)I need a Harlock Costume...A really good one. If you can direct me towards one, the chances of this happening increase....Alot.... ALSO THIS IS NOT A BRIBE. :D ::) :) ;) ;) ;)

Title: Suggestion - Gakuen Alice
Post by: archangel on August 08, 2006, 04:34:25 am
Once again, I ask to humbly write in these forums.   :)  It's been awhile, admittedly, but I was thinking about what Tsubasa was saying about L-E having to drop Tsubasa Chronicles and Nana and the potential loss of fans, and then I thought, well it doesn't hurt to ask, does it?  So I was wondering if L-E would consider taking on Gakuen Alice.  I know it has a pretty large fan base. It's an anime from a couple of years ago and it hasn't been licensed. I know L-E would do credit to this anime. I don't know about Raws, mind you, but I assume (big assumption here) that you can still download them.  I know that I am showing ignorance here, so apologies.  Still, perhaps one of the powers above might consider taking on this project.

Thank you.

P. S. I wasn't sure where to post this so I started a new topic. :-\

Title: Kaze to ki no Uta
Post by: jasx on September 07, 2006, 03:46:44 pm
Hi,

I am new member of Live-Evil and would like to say THANKS to Live-Evil for fan-subbing so many wonderful anime! I am a new addict to anime (just found this wonderful anime world) and am glad that so far I LOVE all animes subbed by Live-Evil.

Would like to ask if Live-Evil is going to sub Kaze to ki no Uta (manga)? Saw on other forums that Live-Evil is going to do so, but would like to seek confirmation.  I have watched the OVA subbed by Techno Girls and the first 2 volumes of manga by Obsession. But it seems they have stopped the translation for past one year.

It would be great if Live-Evil can sub the total collection of Kaze to ki no Uta. It is really a classic anime and the story is really heart-wrenching..

Yes on 2 conditions

a) Find good quality raws

and....(heres the stinker)

b) Find a translator willing to do it all the way to the end.

If you can do both then the chances are good we'll sub it if not then I'm afraid it's no :)

This is a powerful story, indeed... one of my favorites. It would have been nice if the anime OVA had covered more of the material. I'm proud to say that I still have my Techno-girls VHS tape. At some point I might remaster the audio for it. Some wonderful music in this anime! ;)

Finding raw manga for this one might be really tough... As I'm sure you are aware, it is very OLD. Aarinfanstasy is good at finding rare stuff. You might want to run this by them, if you haven't already.

Cheers,

And what other forums are you talking about? I'm sure non or the L-E members posted something about scanlating a manga, although a classic one, in any forums. Maybe someone said something about subbing OVAs, but since it's already subbed, no need for that.

Title: City Hunter '99 TV Special
Post by: KaiserS on September 09, 2006, 10:26:33 pm
I was just wondering if you guys would be interested in subbing this.  The only version floating around is a really poor quality version from an old VHS fansubs with rather poor subs.  If you would be interested I would be able to provide video from the remastered R2 DVD.  That or if you happen to know any other groups that might be interested.  This is sadly the only thing City Hunter that never got licensed by ADV and I was hoping that maybe someone would be interested in doing a good quality fansub version of this.  Thanks.
Title: Re: City Hunter '99 TV Special
Post by: Tsubasa on September 09, 2006, 10:32:39 pm
Well, the first step is getting a translator. If you could get us one, we could think about it. Otherwise, I'm afraid the answer is negative. And we wouldn't really know if any other group was interested and didn't have the raws so try asuki or something for that.

Title: README BEFORE SUGGESTING A NEW SERIES FOR US TO SUB
Post by: gumbaloom on September 09, 2006, 10:54:10 pm
If you want Live-eviL to sub something new there are 2 conditions to us picking something up. With Tofusensei being inactive we have a serious lack of free translators who arent already tied up doing our current work so heres what you need to provide us to get us to sub a series ..

1) A raw source - We're not gonna go mooching around the net for decent raws if you want us to sub it you need to give us decent raws preferably DVD vobbies or high quality TV caps.

now heres the biggie....

2) A TRANSLATOR
(Note the translator must be competent and be able to provide scripts which don't require heavy translation checks.

If you can provide both raws and a translator you stand a good chance of us subbing the series, without them unless one of the staff REALLY likes it sadly your suggestion will be ignored. :)

I guess for once the same thing hit both of us the same time.  Hopefully people will read it. Also suggesting series without translators is dangerous cause Tofu might get interested and volunteer to t/l it which = end of series before it happens, unless something new, in which case end of series in the sense 'Dropped?' even after L-E officially declares it dropped.

Geez, how I long to invite him to the trolls' playground.  BTW, we shouldn't be recruiting t/ls under less they require a minimal level of translation check at the most. Say, best with at least 95% accuracy.  Normally people who have this level of accuracy fall in either/all five of the following categories:

-they've lived in Japan for years and have the language incorporated in their system. (e.g. me)

-They've been watching animes, subs/raws, ever since they were kids and they even spend an year or two at least in Japan and has studied the language to some extent. (e.g. Tofu, Masakari)

-Whether they lived in Japan or now, they're in the final year of University Japanese language course or have completed it. Self-study is okay too. (e.g. Mirror_ID)

-And of-course, whether the above apply or not, they've been translating for sometime, hence experienced. (e.g. Tofu, Strato, tellu)

-finally, not to forget that they maybe Japanese/Japanese descendant yourself and can speak English = perfect (e.g. EclipseZeta, Greenkabbage)

For someone to be a potential t/l for us, or any fansubbing group in general, s/he MUST fall in either of the categories otherwise need not apply UNLESS they can bring in helpers and t/l checkers along with them too.

I was actually the editor for the first ep of Ghost Hunt that was released, and I can tell you now that we tried to do as good a job as we could.

I don't think Ghost Hunt would be a good addition to L-E's lineup, especially if you can't find a translator.

Think I was missunderstood. :'( I was only asking because I (personaly) like to see more then one group subbing something so if they drop it I can go to the other group to pick it up. Now if it was licened then I wouldn't but sometime sites do drop projects or the group simply ups and disapears one day. I hate starting to watch something then never get to see any more of it when it gets interesting. So sorry if I offended anyone it was not intentional.

I have a series to request which might fall under classic anime.
Dash Kappei! you guys heard of it? it's from the 80's and it's one of the funniest animes I've seen and there were spanish fansubs (.ogm) at frozenlayer.

actually, if it's an OGM, you more than likely could, in fact you likely wouldn't have to do any encoding, just unwrap it and replace the subtitle script.

edit: of course, that still means he needs to find a translator :p or start offering bribes

Is there anyway for this anime to be fansubbed?
Title: Re: Ryuusei no Rockman
Post by: gumbaloom on November 19, 2006, 07:39:28 pm
Legend of Rockman doesnt exactly fit our profile of subbing there are other groups more suited + the fact that Rockman shows usually get licensed pretty quick.

Also the only way would be if you gave us a translator otherwise no cigar.

Ok, I just condensed all of the new series requests into one thread. So in the future, if you want to request we sub a series, post it here.

Some things to keep in mind:

1) We DO NOT sub licensed anime. So if its licensed in the US, don't ask.

2) We need both a raw sourse and a translator in order to sub a series. So if you can't provide both, it's unlikely that we will sub it.

3) By raw source we mean a DVD source, not crappy rips available on the internet.

OK, if you can meet all of these requirements, great, we'll consider your request. If not, you can still ask I suppose, but nothing will happen.

Hi, i hope it isnt rude to ask you if you want to sub Dr. Slump? (the original, 243 eps one) There isnt anyone who subbed this in english for these long years, and im a big fan of it.. :( I think there will not be problems with raws, because it will be re-released on DVD in January, so i think i would be able to find some Winny hashes (sadly, i dont know how to use/dl from Winny or Share, sorry).. you are my only hope.. thanks in advance :)

I just found out that Live-EviL did Creamy Mami fansubbed and it reminded me of another old anime I'd really like to see. The Original Minky Momo! It already has been to some extent.  There are about 8+ episodes out as of mid-2000.  One was even posted on the ultra-popular www.lunaarts.com.  Of course they were virtually ignored like everything else mahoushoujo back then.  If you talk to the pig about this title, he'll tell you not to complain so long after the fact and support groups releasing these types of shows when they do so.  With the support of the fans, anything can happen; without the support of fans, most efforts only last a matter of months if that.

For those who don't know, Sindobook is a character in Minky Momo  ;)

Unless it's an amazing coincidence that a Live Evil member who seems to like mahou shoujo has a name from a mahou shoujo anime and don't know the fact, I'd say that would be an indication that a Live Evil member likes Minky Momo and the group shoud sub it.

I wish I could help you in some way but unfortunately I don't know Japanese, only English and Spanish (exept Bulgarian, my native language). But if you want, I could translate some of the episodes from Spanish (I have episodes 43 to 51 in DVD quality, dual audio - Japanese/Spanish).
That's all I wanted to say. I wish you good luck with all of your projects. ^_^

If you're really upset about it, use that energy, not to complain, but to do something about it. Find out what you can do to help.
And I do like seeing the lyrics to an intro song on the screen the first time I see an anime. Sometimes it's hard to find the translated lyrics to the theme song of an obscure anime.

Short answer: I know of no such plans.

The question has been raised a number of times now and been answered the same way each time. The driving force behind all Nana activity was tofusensei. He has effectively stopped fansubbing for quite some time now and unless another translator shows some interest in this, it won't happen.

P.S.:
This will, in all probability, get tacked on to one of the two Nana threads I can see on the front page of the Past Projects forum.

I'm going to point out the stickies at the top of this forum. We typically take on projects that are of significant interest to us or where we can find an interested translator and raws. So unless one of the translators really likes the show and someone has raws lying around (incredibly unlikely) you're pretty much out of luck.

Random capitalization really irritates people.

Title: Do we want more OVA's and Movies from the 80's?
Post by: Visual_Sky on February 10, 2007, 12:26:11 pm
Does anyone else also want to see more OVA's and Movies from the 80's fansubbed?

It's always suprised me that since the digital age of fansubbing, groups have focused mainly on subbing very long tv series. Leaving the far less time consuming OVA's and Movies tossed aside like a piece of rubbish?

For one thing OVA's and Movies have much larger budgets, better animation and usually more experimental in their execution.

So can we please see more OVA's from the 80's fansubbed in particular?
Title: Re: Do we want more OVA's and Movies from the 80's?

The requirement for any new project is a high quality raw source and a translator. You're seeing a bunch of TV series because that's what the Japanese are releasing on DVD.

Title: Re: Do we want more OVA's and Movies from the 80's?
Post by: gumbaloom on February 10, 2007, 12:53:05 pm
I'm always game to see good classic anime get subbed but yes Galen is right. No translator + No raws = won't get subbed.

We're not going to use some 5th generation copied VHS tapes as a raw source to sub a movie, it's gotta be either DVD or a VHS capped raw done properly off an original Japanese tape or a clean 1st gen copy.

If you have both raws + translator willing to do it we'll talk business otherwise your comments are falling on deaf ears I'm afraid.

Raws are easy to aquire, for instance here are some i have:

Dream Dimension Hunter Fandora (1985 - Laserdisc)
Hi Speed Jecy (1989- Laserdisc)
Hoshi Neko Full House (1989- Laserdisc)
Shounan Bakusozoku (1986 - DVD)
Baribari Densetsu (1986 - Laserdisc)

Supplying translators on the other hand, isn't that the whole purpose of fansub groups? Otherwise i could just do everything myself.

Lol you miss the point.

TRANSLATORS DONT GROW ON TREES.

The translators we do have are already busy enough as it is and they have their own personal preferences.

Therefore if you want us to pick something up you either got to
a) Supply a translator or a script
or
b) Hope that someone is interested enough to take time out to translate it.

Note the occurrence of b) is the EXCEPTION rather than the rule.

Animeigo released only 1 out of the 12 episodes on to VHS. It went out of print many years ago it was one of their worst selling releases. Shame since it was one of their best titles in my opinion.

I wish scriptclub was still active, it would make a lot easy to track down old VHS fansub scripts.

I think gumba might want to modify his spiel slightly to say "accurate scripts". I'm sure that some of the scripts off scriptclub are just fine, but a much larger majority are positively hopeless. It gets to the point where a translation checker might was well just translate them over again.

And you really are missing the point here. We can generally find raws for the stuff we want to do With the exception of Lensman, grumble, grumble..., but translators do what they're interested in. If that includes some OVAs and movies from the 80s, great. If not, great. You'll note that L-E doesn't stick exclusively to older material. We're more of an "Ooooh, shiny! Let's sub that!" kind of group. We do whatever catches our interest, regardless of age.

Believe me, everyone in this group has various pet projects in various states of potentially getting done. Every single one of us.

Post by: bobby6 on March 25, 2007, 08:55:31 pm
Ok, I just condensed all of the new series requests into one thread. So in the future, if you want to request we sub a series, post it here.

Some things to keep in mind:

1) We DO NOT sub licensed anime. So if its licensed in the US, don't ask.

2) We need both a raw source and a translator in order to sub a series. So if you can't provide both, it's unlikely that we will sub it.

3) By raw source we mean a DVD source, not crappy rips available on the internet.

OK, if you can meet all of these requirements, great, we'll consider your request. If not, you can still ask I suppose, but nothing will happen.

Just to make it clear once again for those who post even though they fail to meet the requirements...  >:(

That isn't a suggestion for a new series and shouldn't be in this thread. You also clearly haven't read the FAQ (http://www.live-evil.org/faq/). Please do so. We haven't announced that we're dropping Mami with one episode to go, and we have no intention of doing so.

Except for me. I firmly believe we should drop Mami right where it is.

hmm... i'm not sure if this is the right place... but i was wondering if anyone was interested in doing a movie called robokon. i got it a few months back.  i can try doing some translations, but it'll be rough at best. it'll definitely need a translation checker.

if anyone has done those robot contests in college or high school... it might be interesting... it came out in 2003... it has oguri shun, for any hyd fans out there... the whole movie was kinda slow in the beginning, but it kinda ramped up speed during the competition in the later half.

okay, if anyone is interested, please send let me know.  oh yeah, feel free to email at uotani.arisa@gmail.com

thanks!

I would like to see both new, but also old material, as long its subject is in my area of interest. But to fansub any anime you need translators... I couldn't be one, because I don't speak Japanese. So I couldn't help. It would be very nice though if others would offer their help for this. I would if I had the possibility.

OVAs aren't as big commitments for translators as whole series are obviously but translators tend to be busy people for some reason or well, becoming a translator gives you the busy pass o.o but the question is more of interest here.

Live Evil interesting in releasing Spt Laynzer?

The old Lupin Gang vhs scripts are translated and timed below for episodes 1-16

They need only minor work here and there to become good quality translations.

Now for once someone has suggested something that catches my eye and eve better provides scripts that we could do a Yawara like job on like we did with Neko Creations scripts....

Question is you got any raws?. I'd wanna see a few eps worth of raws but if the wikipedia entry is anything to go by it looks kinda cool o_o

are there any plans in the works to pick up Uchuu Senkan Yamato sometime in the future?
i know that there are R1 DVD's, but i'm under the impression they're the dubbed Starblazers version only.  i don't know how easily the raws could be obtained or if it's even a possibility for L-E, but i figured since we have quite a few Matsumoto enthusiasts here, i'd pop the question.

again, i know people are super busy with the series they're doing currently (and believe me, i'm more than grateful for what's being done as it is), but i was just curious if Yamato has ever been considered.  ^_^

Since Central Anime has already done the first two seasons, there's really no need for Live-eviL to do it.

That still leaves season 3 but, at the moment, there are no plans to do that, either.

I should point out that Central has said they have no intention of doing season 3. If someone wanted to do it, that would be the one to do.

Tonde Buurin isn't even fun watching (it was shown here on TV) ^^;;;

I'd suggest the Chibi Maruko Chan  series =^_^=
I mean not the ongoing second season with 600 or what episodes, just the classic first season. That would be only 52 episodes and would only take a week or so <gd&r>

Honestly: The only fansub I have seen of Chibi Maruko Chan (besides the movie) was based on the chinese dub  :-\

But before that, more of Trapp! *Simba&Nala pleeeeazzzze*

Hello to Live-Evil and fellow fans. Recently (about a week.5 ago) I watched a RAW version of this anime called Wangan Midnight. I searced for a fansubber and found one, but to my dismay the quality of the translation/work was poor --- awkward grammar, low resolution, etc. The show was an instant hit with me, and I'm sure it will be with many others as well. I've never read the manga to this show, but I have played the arcade games. I don't know Live-Evil's stance on this genre of anime (I was reading some past post on ID4, and there seems to be alot of discontent with that show, I personnally was a fan!) but I hope Live-Evil considers it. This show is produced by OB Planning (same as ID4) and is even supervised by Keiichi Tsuchiya!! (Drift King, if you don't know him, look him up! :P he's only about this famous *extends arms out*) I give thanks in advance if Live-Evil accepts, and even if Live-Evil doesn't, well my heart is broken because Live-Evil is the only fansub group I could think of that has ever done a motorsport anime. (well Ideology, but they don't have a website + I are not so nifty on the IRC ^^;)

Umm hate to break your heart but NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS OF MAN.

I don't think you picked up that ID4 made us sick and tired of car animes and in particular car anime fans because they were so demanding and ungrateful.

Anyways the 2 people that were to core of ID4 namely the translator and editor have both retired from fansubbing and / or busy with real life so AINT GONNA HAPPEN. Sorry.

haha I had my suspcions, but failed to realize it was that bad!

Live-Evil did a great job on ID4, it's too bad that the translator and editor aren't around anymore. I'm pretty sure they would have seen things my way. ;)

I won't fight Live-Evil about it because I'm not one of those 'ungrateful car anime fans' and actually I'll thank gumbaloom for replying so quickly and directly.

Ah I was just asking because I'm an avid motorsports fan, not just the animation (I watch alot of Best Motoring International and Video Option) and I'm actually an aspiring drifter! (I love my S14) Thanks anyway. Live-Evil FTW~!

hello,

I would like to suggest les miserables: shojo cosette, the anime adaption of the victor hugo novel.

summary from animenewnetwork
Being a single mother is hard in early 19th Century France. When young Cosette was traveling with her mother trying to find a job and a place to live, they were always shunned away because very few employers hire single mothers. When she is promised with the prosperity of working in the big city, Cosette is separated from her mother in the hopes a caretaker will watch over her while her mother earns some money. Unfortunately this was a trick and the caretaker is a corrupt man who makes Cosette his indentured servant. Then the kind mayor of the town that Cosette makes her new home in sees how winds of change are so detrimental for children and families, and decides to do something about it

to my knowledge, only 2 other groups, both of which currently dropped it due to lack of staff interest, have subbed this. I've only seen 3 episodes of this show, and I haven't read the original novel so i really can't tell how accurate it is to the original source material, but so far the show seems to have a lot of potential. I think it would be a shame to see this show go unsubbed, and I highly doubt it would ever get licensed.

As always,,, before thinking of picking up a new series, we must have 2 things.
Raws,, and a translator willing to see the project to the end. Without that, it is unlikely to happen.

This is my first post in here and let me thank the L-E staff first for having put out lot's of great stuff over the years. :)

That said I have a question, since you did part or the whole of yua 2 are you planning on or interested in doing yua3. I don't know of any group currently doing it and I would very much like a decent group doing a show I have enjoyed for two seasons. Raws aren't out yet and ofcourse I'm no translator but I thought I would ask because you worked on the previous one.

Thanks in advance for a reply on this and I hope to see many more great L-E encodes :)

hmm... not so much a new series request as it is a past series question...(sorry if I'm a n00b and this is in the wrong place :P )

Would it ever be possible to get the Candy Candy tv anime subbed?  I'm a huge fan of the series and was totally broken when I could only see up to episode 54... I know that there is a legal battle over the series in question, but perusing ebay, I found that there are some Spanish and French bootleg subs of the entire 115 episode series.  If I were to purchase those bootlegs and provide the raws (but no translator) would anyone on L-E be interested in subbing this series (seeing that the movie has been subbed by you guys)?

I would offer to QC too... but I'm not sure if I'll be much help seeing that I have no experience whatsoever  :-\

@thundastormz

The biggest impediment that any fansub group has towards subbing a series is finding a translator that's interested in doing it (as in for free with no monetary compensation).  I don't believe we have a translator interested in it at the moment.

There were some rumblings on the Something Awful forums a couple of months back about the series though, and it's possible that something might come out of that.

Yes we know youre short staffed, but I have to make this request anyway :-)

I know youre into Classic Anime, so how about DIRTY PAIR TV (24 Eps) from the 80ies. DVDs are available in Japan,  but afaik there are no dubbed or subbed licensed DVDs. Also saw it horribly dubbed on italian tv long ago (titled "kate & julie", brrrr).

The first six episodes can be found on the net, but the group who released them, Exiled-Destiny, stated they never retranslated it and only reused fansubs from old vhs tape versions, and the project stalled after ep.6 month ago ... and now that group closed anyway...

Wed looove to see DP.TV in L-E quality.... sigh

I might be a bit overanxious on this one in my shameless greed to have it subbed(as it hasn't been out long/someone might be working on it already), but just in case figured I'd bring it up since the last movie didn't have many groups working on it and this one was involved.  There's a raw rip of the latest Kino no Tabi movie "For You" around the usual sources(can also get the DVD with the latest visual novel in Japan), but the group that released it doesn't do subs it appears.

For my greedy anime request, I'd love to see Oishinbo get some fansubbing love.

ANBU subbed the first 2 episodes a ways back, and I've been wanting to see more of this ever since.  It's not an easy show to sub, but that's part of what separates it from the pack.  Oishinbo would need a strong group of fansubbers to pull it off.  How about you Live-Evil crew??

Lol

I had the entire Oishinbo manga set (a girlfriend of mine at the time was way into the manga) but I'll be honest, I just don't know enough about Japanese culinary terms to do it justice. A lot of the manga was over my head.

It wouldn't be impossible, but a lot of work. Kara-kun, a former timer of ours, had all the raws for it. I believe he actually timed it for ANBU.

Hi.

This is kind of a side project request, but I was wondering if you can karaoke a PV for me.  The Promo-Video is KOTOKO - -421- A Will, and a lot of people would like to see this done.  Actually, I was looking for an English Translation online for this song, and I found that none existed on the internet, so I took the liberty of doing the translations myself, so that's one hurdle that's already taken care of, and should you choose to accept this side project, all you need to do is a Translation Check (not sure if I got my pronouns right) and the actual fansub itself.  If you decide to do this, I'll give you the kanji, romanji, and English versions organized by line in order so you can do this easily.

If you wish to credit me for translations, that's fine, but I would feel better if the TC gets it.

Dear Live-Evil,

I absolutely ADORED what you did with Rose of Versailles. It was one of the first few anime I watched as a kid in Germany, along with Aishite Night and Future Police Urashiman (and loads of other stuff), and lately I've been hunting around for all of these so I can rewatch them and remind myself why exactly I fell in love with anime.

I would like to request 'Lady Georgie', which has a very similar feel and look to Rose of Versailles, so it might be something you're interested in doing. Only a few episodes of the German dub are available on youtube and there are no existing English subs yet. Lots of sentimental value attached to this anime, so if your amazing group actually did this one, I would be forever grateful.

Lots of fan praises

I always did want to have a followup series for ROV for us (ROV itself was our followup series to Utena).

Unfortunately, at this time we do not have the resources to add a new project like that but in the future it is a real possibility. Do you know anyone who owns the DVDs?

I also hope the LE would pick-up Lady Georgie. I saw that A Limited Box Set is coming out for it in Jun. It's R2 in the original Japanese. But it has a whopping price tag on it. I would donate money to purchase it if LE decided to pick it up to Subb.

We are actually subtitling this show and in need of someone to do translation checking for it. I think I see where this is heading ;)

-Tofu

I remember you asking me if I was still interested in TL checking DP on IRC a little while back.  I know you've been busy as of late, so no rush really.  However, I can start TL checking scripts whenever. Just thought I would post this here, even though I'm sure I'll see you in the IRC channel sometime.  ;)

L-E releasing DP-TV?? Well I missed that one completely :)

Quote from: teucom
The first six episodes can be found on the net, but the group who released them, Exiled-Destiny, stated they never retranslated it and only reused fansubs from old vhs tape versions, and the project stalled after ep.6 month ago ... and now that group closed anyway...

Note that this group semiclosed (http://www.exiled-destiny.com), but they still seem to (very slowly) continue to release the DP-TV series, now at ep#08. They still just encode the RAWs and add the old VHS fansubs as .srt subs.

I enjoyed the entire DP-TV (DVD) series very much, voiced-over by my personal translating system (http://teucom.net/netpix/key2.jpg) :); the old existing fansubs mentioned above are acceptable, but very basic and far from being accurate at times.

So its very nice we'll see this truly classic series properly done, l-e style.

Until then, if youre into Classic KOR, DP, BC ... enjoy this (http://teucom.net/netpix/The_Look_Xvid.avi) (63MB, rightclick&save)

But if they're just adding the OLD scripts to the raws and releasing them, what fun is that? Yeah I know it's better than nothing for some people, but that's not really fansubbing (IMHO), since they aren't checking the translations and fixing any problems.  ;)

Sorry, back to make one more request. The more older anime I try to hunt out, the more I realise there's just not enough of this stuff around!!!

Brother, Dear Brother. Or Onii-chan e. Whichever you prefer to call it. I've read the plot synopses in various places, and it sounds like the kind of thing you guys might do.

All the groups that supposedly have done it aren't actually active anymore. One group was even offering it on tape, lol. My search was very disheartening. Hopefully you guys will be able to do it one day.

Thank you very much

Well, there's something like 600+ eps and numerous movies so i'd hope that someone could get their hands on atleast some of it.

I know exspecting the whole thing to be translated is a pipe dream but i'd personally be happy just to see a tiny bit of it get subbed by someone.

Well how about this classic, truly snappy titled police series...

Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo
(This Is the Police Station in Front of Kameari Park in Katsushika Ward)

Short: Kochikame

Kochikame takes place in the present day, in and around a neighborhood police station (kōban) in the downtown part of Tokyo, and revolves around the misadventures of a middle-aged cop, Kankichi Ryotsu (Ryo-san).

Little-sister recorded some episodes accidently.
Kei sat staring at it with one raised eyebrow which for me counts as a sign for that special quality.

Come on guys, its only about 360 eps and two movies so far...

But teucom, I'll need to take a break from police shows for a while after we finish full throttle, I think. I wouldn't not consider it in the future though... It's a fixture on Japanese TV along with Mito Komon :)

Thanks, but,

- the Encoding is NOT very HQ... and because of certain same bad frames and artefacts I think someone just reencoded the E-D softsub release with messed-up 24/30 framerate and added hard subs, which are...

- ...again, word for word the same old 1995 VHS fansubs, they didnt even bother to retime or reformat these so its very obvious they used the same .srts as found in the E-D softsub release.
Oh yes, they switched the opening lyrics (english) with the jap/romajii ones as in Ep#02 .srt ...
...and finally, altered the translation copyright/credits.

Does not meet standards as seen here.

Yeah, don't worry about Dirty Pair, we're on the case.

I spoke to the guy from that ACR group and they are not planning on doing the entire show. I've just been trying to work through the YUA and KOR backlog before focusing more efforts on DP. We've actually timed the entire show and ripped all the raws, if that means anything :)

I know you are already working on a couple so I would understand if you would not want to start any more until the current ones are done, but anything from World Masterpiece Theater would be wonderful.

Little Prince Cedie

Love Story of the Young Grass (Little Women)
Alps Story: My Annette

Actually, I do have the raws for them, or you can get them from saiei raws, whatever is easier, if that will work for the raw requirement. As for translation, sadly I'm at the very beginning of learning Japanese nor do I know anyone else who would be qualified;_; But if that changes, I will point them your way.

Would L-E consider picking up the 2001 remake of Cyborg 009? Like a lot of people, I saw it on Toonami years ago, but the license was dropped and the full series was never released on DVD in the USA. I'm unsure of the exact licensing situation, but hope that a complete release would be possible sometime in the future.

Minami-ke: Okaeri. It is the third series of the Minami-ke anime. I am not sure what day it started, but it was scheduled to start this month and I have found a single copy of episode 1. However the party that brought it out wouldn't know quality control if it bit them in the nose and the subs are so far out of whack with the video it's scary. Please do this anime series, it is a funny little show, my daughter and I like to watch together.

Hmm maybe you would consider subbing Sailor Moon either R or S, nobody has the license over the series now, am I wrong? That good anime deserves to  have some good group subbing it. KAA is doing good job on first season but it doesn't seem like they're going to do the whole thing. >>I remember reading somewhere on your website if I'm not wrong that even tho it's not licensed anymore you wouldn't do it, but as I couldn't find it again after going through few things thought I'd bring it up<<

Also maybe you could sub Ninja Senshi Tobikage, not sure if it fits your genre though.

Would L-E consider working on Fantascope Tylostoma? (http://myanimelist.net/anime/5802/Fantascope_Tylostoma)

I watched it raw since no one has subbed it, but I'd really like to know what was being said. I think I got the gist of what was happening, but with so much dialogue and narration I can't be sure. A 30 minute OVA, all with Yoshitaka Amano's artwork is in needing of subs.

It's an awfully unique piece that I don't think anyone will look at unless requested of them.  :'(

Title: Stop! Hibari-kun! - Are you aware of it?
Post by: 21stcenturydigitalboy on March 08, 2009, 11:47:07 pm
Stop! Hibari-kun! is a show that aired from 1983-84 produced by Toei. The show is about a guy named Kousaka who’s mom died at the start of the show. She sends him to live with a former lover, who Kousaka quickly realizes is a yakuza boss (and turbo-violent to boot.) Initially, he wants to get the fuck out of this yakuza looney-bin, but then he sees one of the boss’ daughters and falls in love at first sight. As it turns out, the boss has 3 great daughters of different ages, but the one who Kousaka fell in love with is the 4th - the boss’ son! Kousaka is devastated, but the trap, Hibari-kun, seems intent to seduce Kousaka!

Only 1 episode out of the 35 existing has been subbed (as far as I can tell). The show was released on Japanese DVD in 03 and has 35 episodes, all of which seem to be available on youtube raw. The first ep was subbed by a single kind gentleman who does quite a nice job, even using youtube annotations to fix his mistakes, which I thought was cool. That was almost a year ago, though, and he doesn't seem intent to continue, having said in his video comments that he hoped someone would take over.

You guys are the only sub group I can see taking this on. The first episode was absolutely brilliant, and I'd love nothing more that to see this whole show subbed.

My suggestion is Mokke.

It is rather recent, but otherwise it fits my interpretation of what shows L-E sub. It has a lovely told intelligent story about growing up and coming to terms with both the ordinary and the supernatural worlds, beautiful art (at least the background art) and is definitely not oversubbed. SubsAnon did the series and the first DVD special before they evaporated, but there seems to be one or two more unsubbed DVD episodes.

I'd love to see the original Casshern subtitled. I even went looking for raws of that at one point, to see where all the goodness in the recent TV series came from, but my raw-seeking skills aren't amazing ;D

Also, the 1973 Devilman TV series. I don't know how available the raws are, but the only version I can find has the most comically bad subs I've ever seen.. which is a pity. There are some dead torrents of episodes 1-10 floating around, but the group doing it seems to have disappeared.

As always,,, before thinking of picking up a new series, we must have 2 things.
Raws,, and a translator willing to see the project to the end. Without that, it is unlikely to happen.

Have you got better raws than Youtube? Without better raws it'd be a hard ask.

We'll ccertainly put it on our list of "maybes" but without raws and a translator that's interested in doing it I wouldn't get your hopes up of it being done soon.

We'll take it in to consideration but without raws better than Youtube and a translator that wants to do it it'll be a while before it gets looked at.

All our translators are already fully loaded with their own pet projects and the last thing we want to do is un-neccessarily slow down our already long lead time on episodes.

Holy cow... That opening sequence... Is the whole show that depressing? They sure went for the shock and awe method there.

Like I said, we'll take it in to consideration but don't get your hopes up it will get done soon.

For a project to
a) be feasible
b) be released in something like a reasonable time frame

It needs a translator who wants to do the show and it needs raws and if they're not available on filesharing sites would mean renting / buying DVD's / LD's which would only happen if someone really wanted to do it and use their own $$ on it.

benjamin I was able to get copies of VHS captures of the entire Watashi to Watashi series! I can't guarantee we'll do anything with it soon, but the files are secured if we decide to do it. Thanks for telling us about it!

As far as I and others have been able to judge in the past, these animes are connected more or less in name only.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2622

That does not mean it's not worth subbing it of course, and we may be wrong about the above  :D

I'll be up for working with any anime involving Miyazaki anyday  :P

Hi there

As I've told you before thank you for the suggestion.

We'll take it in to consideration but it will go in to our "maybe" list of projects. We make absolutely no promises about it being picked up anytime soon.

For a project to be seriously considered for fast pickup you need
- preferably a translator / or good quality scripts (HK subs don't count) / or be prepared to pay for a pro translator to do it
- or at least DVD / Blu Ray raws that you could give us.

I don't want to sound glum but just wanted to set your expectations

How about the rest of Leiji's anime that don't have an active project or the ones that have never had one?
There's quite a few specials and one TV series left. I'll list them with a description of the plot.

Dai Yamato Zero-go
(http://i.imgur.com/jCNapon.jpg)
Leiji's first attempt to revive the Yamato franchise featuring gorgeous adaptions of his designs from Masunaga Keisuke (Cosmo Warrior Zero, Queen Emeraldas, and SSM). It's an OVA series based on a pachinko game and it looks insane. Would be willing to buy the DVD box if there's any interest.

Plot:
Quote
In the galactic group there are more than 100,000,000,000 galaxies, and the Milky Way galaxy, the one which includes Earth's solar system, is only one of these... one of many in the immensity of outer space.

This story starts in the year 3199, when a mighty enemy attacks the Milky Way from a neighbouring galaxy. The enemy engages the combined forces of the Milky Way, an Alliance of many stellar nations, and defeats them one after another.

The remaining Milky Way Alliance forces are reduced to just six fleets. After the Alliance headquarters is destroyed, and when the collapse of the central Milky Way Alliance is imminent, the Great Yamato "Zero" surprises everyone and embarks on a mission to assist the Milky Way Alliance in one last great battle.

Arei no Kagami
(http://i.imgur.com/2cm5mDO.jpg)
An obscure 25 minute film.
Quote
The story follows Daichi Meguru and Mayu, a young boy and a pilot, as they flee their war torn planet and into space. Upon their ship a stowaway android named Zero joins their quest as they travel through Halley's Mirror.

Marine Snow no Densetsu
(http://i.imgur.com/T18IyDR.jpg)
This is actually being remade, but having the original subbed would be nice. http://www.marinesnow.co.jp/

Saint Elmo: Hikari no Raihousha
(http://i.imgur.com/ogZXoOb.jpg)
Another obscure piece of Leiji Matsumoto. AK has a review which you can find here: http://animekritik.wordpress.com/2010/09/14/electric-power-and-matsumoto-the-case-of-saint-elmo/
Quote
Inside Mercury, Japan builds a large-sized solar space power plant. The plant supports Earth with its large solar energy supply but suddenly there is an abnormality at the Saint Elmo plant. To pinpoint the problem, Earth sends several technicians to fix it.

Submarine Super 99
(http://i.imgur.com/gG6GBMP.jpg)
This has actually been licensed but the copyright holders never did anything with it, sadly. It's based on an old manga of Leiji Matsumoto and it would be ashame to have it forgotten. Only three episodes have been subbed and I don't know if they're actually still available.
Quote
Dr. Oki , the genius scientist who designed a new type of submarine is missing. His son, Susumu, smells an evil scheme of unknown group. He knows everything of his father's submarine called "Super 99" – equipment, weapons, functions and capacity. Susumu thinks that to find his father is to reveal the secret organization, Helmet Party, and stop their conspiracy. With the help of his friends and Marine Corps, he sets out to an underwater quest, not knowing how dangerous his endeavour is…

Thank you.

Hmmm

Submarine Super 99 - The US licensors website has gone off line apparently ? Enoki Films USA was the licensor but from my initial google search they never got anywhere. It's not on Baka-updates either. A bit more due dilligence would be needed but if the license has just been sat on and the US licensors web site is off line it would suggest it's fair game... Raw source wise DVD's are available to rent.

Dai Yamamoto - Never ever licensed by anyone. DVD's are rentable.

The other 3 look as though they only ever made it to VHS. It would be a disservice to them to sub them off LQ web torrents. We'd need to find and rip the VHS...

I'm going to Japan at New Year so might be tempted to rent Submarine Super 99 and Dai Yamamoto from Tsutaya while I'm there. Both of them are only relative short so you might stand half a chance of seeing them sometime in the next 2 years LOL.

Submarine Super 99 sounds really interesting/good. I'll consider translating this one if we can get a dedicated group together for this. Also, Dai Yamato Zero-go sounds pretty good, too. My first choice would be Submarine Super 99, though.

I am requesting that the original Time Bokan anime be subbed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Bokan

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Time Bokan, the Time Bokan Series of animes are classic Tatsunoko comedy animes produced in the 1970s.

RAWS for all 9 Time Bokan TV Series can be found here:
