Title: Come QC for Live-Evil!
Post by: Blue Mage on July 09, 2006, 09:23:52 pm
Do you like You're Under Arrest, Shion no Ou, Detective Academy Q, and the other Live-Evil projects? Would you like to get involved in fansubbing?

We need more QCers! The quality checker's purpose in life is to watch an episode and nitpick. We ask you to find any errors in translation (any that are easily detectable at least), editing, timing, typesetting, and encoding. It's a great way to learn about fansubbing and to start getting involved. Benefits include watching pre-releases and bitching at ops when they screw up.  ;)

The primary requirements include competency in modern-day english (spelling, grammar, syntax and diction), as well as the ability to play those video types used by L-E. A passing familiarity with VDub, Aegisub or Substation Alpha is handy but certainly not necessary.

All potential QCers, please please please read this page before applying, as that will be our first question to you! http://www.live-evil.org/so-you-want-to-be-a-live-evil-qcer/ (http://www.live-evil.org/so-you-want-to-be-a-live-evil-qcer/)

If you feel up to the task, pm tlynnec (aka. tlynnec|LLE) either here in the forums or in the IRC channel (#live-evil on irc.enterthegame.com) or email tlynnec@live-evil.org.

We already have six regular qc'ers for Detective Academy Q, practically two people with actually something called qc control.  But we desperately need for the other series like Mami.  So people please, it's a fun job, worthwhile job, and we'll love you if you volunteer to qc for us.  Just post on this thread, drop in a pm or visit the channel.  No previous experience required, just a good level of attention span ^^ and stable internet connection--and yes those mentioned above except the techinal stuff aren't largely required but would be a plus point. Of-course you can always learn.  The technical knowledge is required for qc fix, and non-technical is okay for only qc'ing.

Hi. I've been QCing for Live-Evil for about 7 months now. I've had a lot of fun here. I get to see episodes before they're released. I've also seen a lot of good stuff that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed. I've gone on to download the earlier episodes for many of these series, I thought they were that good.

Do you have a favourite series here that's stalled? Would you like to see it moving again? If you're in the QC team you'll have a better chance to get it started again. Do you want to learn how to fan-sub? The QC team talks to people who can teach you. Do you want to make friends with people scattered around the world? Here is your chance.

When I joined the Live-eviL QC team I told then right off that I had a second reason for coming. I wanted to get Creamy Mami moving again. Over the months I've done more than QC. I've learned how to time. I've done some editing. And when a new translator came along I was able to work with her to get Creamy Mami started again.

So here's our problem. Tlynnec and I are the two most active members of the QC team. Lately, we've also started editing. But we can't QC our own work. Another of our members recently disappeared. (Not suprising. People come and go.  :-* ) And the staff working on Detective Academy Q, Captain Harlock and Creamy Mami are all trying to increase productivity to 3 or 4 episodes a month for each of these series.

So we need new people to help out the rest of the QC staff.

Especially since one of Live-eviL's two main mandates is to produce high quality fan subs. (The other is to get some of the older series fan-subbed.) This means that every time an episode enters QC, we want at least three people to QC it.

So if you are interested, here is what you need to do. You need to tell Gumbaloom that you would like to volunteer. The best way is to catch him chatting in IRC channel #live-evil @ irc.enterthegame.com. He is also know as Professor_Gumba there. If he's not chatting, then PM him. Alternately, leave a message for Gumbaloom on the forum here. Keep trying. Eventually you will get noticed.

We are looking for people with the following skills.
- You must know English grammar fairly well. If you got a reasonly good mark in grade 10 English then you are probably OK.
- We don't expect you to QC everything that comes along but you must be willing to QC several series.
- Whey you QC something, the report needs to be submitted reasonably quickly. When something is ready to QC, we try to get reports from three people over the next day or so. Not counting download time it probably takes around 40 to 60 minutes to QC a 24 minute episode. When you're done you upload your notes, telling us what you think should be changed.
- We want people who are willing to make a commitment. If you think you're willing to put in an hour or two a week, we'd really like to hear from you.

If you've been watching fan-subbed anime and you've ever wondered what it would be like to do fan-subbing yourself, here is your chance.

Go for it!  ;D

We could truly use a few more dedicated QCer's at this point!!!!
Lack of QC staff=slower releases  :-[  :'(
Right now we only have 2 or 3 people who QC lots of projects on a regular basis, so if you have a favorite anime and you are frustrated with slow releases, do something about it. Come and be a QCer. Its fun, pretty easy and there are perks as well.

Hey there!
I am interested in joining you QC team especially for the Matsumoto works, and Creamy Mami. I would also be available to QC for other works as well. You should be able to contact me through this site and I look foward to helping you guys out as I've taken quite alot from your site and would like to give back! Give me a day or so to see whats going on for me around home and I should get back A.S.A.P.. Also I am not good at the Japanese language so I wouldn't be able to help there, but my english is quite good.

I'll send the proper forums when I can in a day or so.

Thanks!

If you want in to the Matsumoto Division, talk to one of it's members DIRECTLY, and don't bother with the riff-raff out there. I think you will find it to be a rewarding experience, and it could potentially affect the rate of release!

Oh really?  ::) When bobby was talking to you....Matsumoto Division Right-hand man...she didn't get any response.  >:( When Willow and I talked to her, that's when she got recruited finally and she has been great with her work so far.  :) So yeah, this way does not always work.  :-\ Even with the Matsumoto Division you'd have to choose the right person to talk to, first of all.  8)

Come talk to me first on IRC (#live-evil on irc.enterthegame.com) nick - gumbaloom or Professor_Goomba

If you convince me that you are suitable for initiation in to the QC cult I will indoctrinate you in to our ways after which others will take care of the "finer details"  XD

Oh yeah, bobby and I got up a Welcome to L-E QC: The Official QC kit for new comers. Gum will prolly tell you what you're getting into, and the kit will tell you how to qc. No worries, just come to the channel as he says. He may appear scary, mean, and unfriendly when you talk to him, and swear a lot but once you're in, you get to talk to the nicer people.  :D ;)

Hi,

First off, I'd like to say thanks for the fansubs. I'm currently watching initial d 4th stage again and have been getting the Under Arrest full throttle(thanks so much!) subs from you guys also.

I saw this post on the live-evil website. I've read through the FAQ and am interested in maybe becoming a QC'er. I was curious as to how fast of a turn around time you are looking for. I'm only able to (usually) watch anything for about 2-3 hours a night during the week(monday through friday), I can't do weekends as I have work and what not. Would this be alright?

English is my main language (speak a little french and I am trying to learn Japanese).

Always looking to piss people off with my own opinions. :D Or, at the very least try to explain why I think something should be one way and not the other in a fairly mature conversation.

I'm 27 so I do meet the 15+ requirement. Although most people would say I don't act it.

I have editing experience (I'm an above novice level user of Final Cut Studio 2).

I'm an apple user, so I hope that wont be a problem. I use either vlc player or MPlayer to watch my anime.

Let me know if you think I might work. Not really picky about what I'd be QCing. If it's a long running series though, I'd like to watch all of the previous episodes before doing any QCing so that I know the characters and what not so that I'd have an idea of how they act and how things are said.

I do have a question for you though. Since you guys subbed the 4th stage of initial d, any chance of doing Battle stage 2? The group OMFG is supposed to be doing this( and I'm supposed to be editing the cut scenes) but he wants to wait until he has done Wangan Midnight before moving onto battle stage 2.

Thanks,

Hey, glad to see you're interested.  Please email me at tlynnec@live-evil.org so we can get the ball rolling.  Also, please read this page: http://www.live-evil.org/so-you-want-to-be-a-live-evil-qcer/ (http://www.live-evil.org/so-you-want-to-be-a-live-evil-qcer/)

As for your second question, no translator has expressed interest in that show, so it is unlikely that we will do it.

Look forward to hearing from you

Hoi!

I've been lurking here for a few years and I'd love to contribute something.  Although English is my second language(French being my first), living and working in Ottawa implies that I must speak and write in English 95% of the time: whether I'm at work, school, with friend or roommates.  Even my boyfriend does not speak a word of French!!

And grammar has always been one of my strong points.  Although I am also rather strong with spelling, I wouldn't really see how that would make a difference, as dictionaries are invaluable tools available to all.

Either way, if you guys are still searching, I'd be really interested.  Most of all, I've enjoyed many series this group has subbed, and I will always look here first when searching for a new serie.

Oh well, better luck next time, right?

Anyways, Thanks for the subs and hopefully someday I'll be able to help in someway.

Hello,

I would like to get involved in Live-Evil staff as a QCer. Actually, I desire to be staff of fansubbers like Ani-Kraze, Ayako or SS-Eclipse, but their requirement is a well-communicated Japanese language. As I see your requirement and my strong ability, I am strongly sure that I will do my best in QCer if you offer me an opportunity.
I have a firm knowledge in Grammatical checker. I was instructed this matter since I was in primary school. By the way, I am still waiting for a decision for Master's degree program in Digital Arts, but I motivate myself to be prompt for a great step by making an advancement study.

I really love watching Japanese animations, such as Shaku No Shana, EyeShield21, Eureka 7, Evangelion, Clannad, Saruka Taisen, as well as your fansubbed animation - Captain Harlock, You're under arrested and Initial D. I will be appreciated If you open an opportunity for me as a QCer staff in Live-Evil.

For more information, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely Yours;
AliceII

Update:
I try it but it does not work. I use Mirc 6.2 and your channel at irc://irc.enterthegame.com/live-evil.

My name is amir
I am 17 years old.
I know high level English.
I know japanease and understand the language and can talk japanease but cant read and write.
I am watching animes for the last 4 years and i saw almost all of them.
I am watching animes in raw for the past 2 years because i hate to wait for translation.
I am interested in subbing the series of the trapp family story  because the releases takes to long to come out (1 release in a few months) and i cant find a raw of it so i was thinking that if i translate the episodes for you you can give me the episodes in raw because i like this anime and soon have to go to the army and then i will have no time to watch it.
i don't have experience in subbing but with my skill i think i can do all the things required except attaching the subtitles to the episode  because i never did something of this kind.
Thank you for reading and i am hoping for a good response

Hi,
I am interested in QCing for Live-Evil.  I like all Asian media very much.  I am a native english speaker, a college graduate, and have firm grasp of spelling and grammar.  I would like to give QCing a shot, it sounds fun and interesting.  I currently have a lot of free time and would like something to do.  I am willing to QC for whatever group or series may need someone.
I have read the description, code of conduct and fansub basics.

So, if you think I would be suitable please let me know!
Thanks,
ColleenF-H

hi i'm 17, and i am quite interested in making a meaningful contribution to the Live-eviL, via the QC position. i love DeathNOte, and felt you all did a great job w/ it...

though i may be a n00b, i feel that i am capable of proofing and revising lines for grammatical sense; at my high school, i help edit the copy that goes into my school's yearbook, and have worked with the the editor to fix grammar or syntactical errors.

i've read the rules and whatnot, and as soon as my computer finishes installing IRC, i hope that i could make said meaningful contribution. i have plenty of time to edit, and i'm extremely anal when it comes to such things as syntax, and spellling( when i read a sub that lacks these, it bugs me every time i watch the episode and i just want to spell check the line.)

hope i don't come across as weird or anything... i just want to help.

peace.

Hi to all! This being my first post, I'd like to volunteer to be a QC'er. I recently got let go from my job so downtime is not a problem. I speak, read and write English as a primary language. While I have no previous experience with fansubbing I'd like to at least try it and help take some of the work load off.

My favourite series at the moment have to be YUA: Full Throttle and Captain Harlock. Of the two I'm so glad L-E picked up YUA as I'd been watching it via another group who just stopped one day and never went back.

I'm on IRC and I'm starting to get the hang of it.  Hey you guys are getting me to do stuff I've never tried. OC'ing, IRC. Where will it end?

Please PM me  if my application was successful. Or I can contact you via IRC.

Thanks again.

I saw the request for fans of Queen Millennia, Captain Harlock and Galaxy Express to become QC'ers in the 'Queen Millennia thread. I would be interested in doing the work.

I am 42. I have considerable experience as a freelance writer and professional magazine editor. I have also worked as a script-editor on many audio and radio drama productions.

Well, I've had no luck with getting people on the IRC channel to notice my messages, so I guess I'll just post it in this forum.

I'm interested in becoming a QC'er. I'm 17, have been speaking, reading, and writing English my entire life, and after downloading and watching over a terabyte of anime over the past few years, I have a relatively strong grasp of the Japanese language as well. I've been watching and keeping up with every show that you are currently subbing, and am very interested in helping in any way I can.

Thank you for your consideration.
