In the manga the kanji for Raito is the same as the kanji used for moon, but it's read as Raito.

Well, considering that in Vol. 2 and subsequent volumes, it lists his name as "LIGHT". And I'm not talking the english volumes, I'm talking Tankoban. Light's name is Light,  Ryuk is Ryuk, etc. Many of the main names were spelt out in english in the tanko.
