While games and thier respective consoles go up with every system, you have to realize everything else is as well.
do you recall what gas and a gallon of milk was when the super nintendo was the latest and greatest? I recall SNES games being 40 or 50 bucks at Toy-R-Us and that was expensive back then.
I believe that a lot of people feel the snes was the last standout system was because the sega genesis was it's only compeitor...compare that to Nintentdo,Sony, and Microsoft today.
Also the SNES had a vast library of 3rd party games, the reason the first PS was so successful.
600+ is too much for a gaming console but 700 is cheap for a blue-ray player and that's another angle they are going for.
I love my nes,snes,64 and cube...I'll eventually get a wii but not till next year.
P.S. I bought my dreamcast on 9.9.99 and still have it hooked up to the tele...it's not dead to me!!
