Unexpectedly good films...
Spymon:
I got Minority Report and Gangs of New York on DVD today. Nice and cheap and good.
I might rent Swimming Pool at the weekend, I'll let the two people who post here know if it was any good.
greenkabbage:
Army of darkness a crap movie?! :o
heathen! it's a great movie!
today i watched shaft. the remake that is. it was funny :D
good: the big lebowsky (with a pitcher of white russian), american history x, three kings, life of brian, run lola run, american beauty, pulp fiction
there's more but I forget...
crypticgimp:
all B movies fall under the "crap" category. its not a dis tot he movie itself, as i am a HUGE crap movie fan. try watching Top Secret sometime.
i loved American History X, but never got why Pulp Fiction was so popular. (look i took time to capitalize today!)
greenkabbage:
Well pulp fiction is popular because it's a classic. and funny to boot.
another (crap if it's cryptic. good if it's me) movie was from dusk till dawn.
oh, forgot fight club
Spymon:
Pulp Fiction is great, shame about the rest of Tarantino's movies. Not that they are unexpectedly good though.
Almost all the Coen brothers movies are unexpectedly good.
Soderbergh's version of Solaris was unexpectedly good.
Plus anything by Spike Jonze and his wife Sofia Coppola. Adaptaion was criminally underated and I'm looking forward to catching Lost in Translation again.
I would also mention Wong Kar Wai films but then you know they'll be good before you even see them.
